Summer clothes to beat the chub rub

I’m a size 12 but thighs are honestly huge in comparison. I struggle with shorts as nothing seems to be wide enough on my thighs or else is just hugely overly baggy! I love a floaty dress but have to double layer with cycling shorts which I just find uncomfortable. I’m happiest in jeans but they are just too hot when the weather is nice 😭

any suggestions??

Try men's shorts, alongside cotton boxer shorts. They are cut differently and might suit your body shape better.

unsync · 09/04/2025 16:10

I second @dementedpixie. Those anti chafe shorts are great. I wear them under dresses with the added bonus you don't need to worry about windy days and flashing your undies.

HazeyjaneIII · 09/04/2025 16:15

Snag chub rubs are great... and don't get over hot. I've also got some cheap ones from Amazon, which are fine too.
Or stick deodorant on your thighs, with a shake of talc over is really effective.

HollyGolightly4 · 09/04/2025 16:17

Chub rub shorts from snag. They're great 👍

Nannydoodles · 09/04/2025 16:39

M&S do a cool comfort culotte slip which is great under summer dresses or obviously looser culottes, only problem is it’s quite long so no good under short dresses unless you can take it up. I was hoping they would do a shorter version this year but looks like they aren’t.

AnnaMagnani · 09/04/2025 16:42

If you don't want to wear the shorts I swear by Bodyglide.

Lasts forever and I can pretend I m a marathon runner using it for nipple chafing, not a fat person using it for chub rub.

Daisymae23 · 09/04/2025 19:19

Thank you all for the suggestions! I have tried a number of anti chafe shorts and tbh found they rolled up, dug in ect but I’ve gone for some cheap ones before do think I need to buy the proper ones!

Oh this looks good! Looks like something Edwardian…. I guess they got chub rub too!

The snag ones are not very good quality. Which is a shame.

StMarie4me · 09/04/2025 19:28

Can we stop with the chub rub? Even skinny people’s thighs can chafe. The word is chafing. CHAFING.

😂😂😂 I have had it my whole adult life from size 8 to now - it’s obviously the way I’m built - and it’s just what I’ve always called it!

to me chafing is when you see men running marathons with bloody nipples

Do the Snag ones definitely not get hot? I have the M&S ones but in hot days I’m just sweat from waist to thigh.

thingsineverthoughtidsay · 09/04/2025 19:36

I use the Primark anti-chafe shorts. I know you said you’ve tried cheap ones, but I think theirs are really good.
I also heard about using liquid talc, but I don’t personally find that works.

Gettingbysomehow · 09/04/2025 19:38

Wear a dress with chub rub shorts underneath. Everyoneone I know wears them. I get mine from snag or amazon.

Daisymae23 · 09/04/2025 19:40

I’ve used some I got on amazon and another pair I think from John Lewis and both just felt too hot! I tried some ones that were like garters… for some reason worked really well on one leg and not the other leading to a rather embarrassing situation at work

I've honestly found the snag quality superb- I've had several pairs for several years and in my opinion there's a huge difference between them and cheap ones. They keep me cool too (within reason!)

Ooh yes, I had the garter ones too!! Very pretty, but one spent most of its life around my knee.
I genuinely find the snag ones OK, but if I really don't want to wear anything (we'll apart from pants obvs) then I do the stick deodorant and talc thing, which works brilliantly.

menopausalmare · 09/04/2025 19:58

I hate shorts on me so I wear flappy wide-legged trousers. Very cool and floaty.

Why is it only one?!? I couldn’t work it out 😂😂

Sloggi long knickers.

Cotton so breathable and not sweaty like the Snag tights material.

I just figured I must be wonky!😬
I'm glad I'm not alone in my wonkiness!

Elmo230885 · 09/04/2025 20:19

I don't mind snag chub rubs but I find the ones from Better Tights are cooler and stay in place better.
