Is this ok for a 4 year's old b-day party?

My daughter really loved the dress:
https://www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-350282609.aspx#srt=noSorting&shoppingtool=treestructureflyout

It looks beautiful and suits her, but I keep thinking it's more like a flower girl/bridesmaids dress, not a b-day party dress.

What's your opinion?

If there's chocolate, cheesy Wotsits/Doritos or orange juice at the party - then it's a big NO.
Lovely dress - but it will get wrecked.

WhyArePiratesCalledPiratessss · 28/01/2025 19:23

It's her birthday.
Let her wear the dress!

Lol. I will.
I am just wondering if my gut feeling about the dress is right.

will It restrict her activities at the party?

It should be fine. We are planning just games or simple dance moves, nothing complicated.

Meh. If you can't wear a dress that you love without caring what others think at 4 then when can you? Crack on I say.

TrulySpandau3 · 28/01/2025 19:29

I'd just be worried about it getting trashed with food and drink stains but it's v pretty.

I'm just thinking whether my gut feeling about the dress is right. Even if everyone on this thread tells it's 100% a bridesmaid's dress, are we still going to going to wear it

Girls on my daughter's class have worn very dressy dresses to parties before and all I've thought is "brave parents" as mine could get filthy in the middle of a sterile room!

Exactfare · 28/01/2025 19:40

My nearly 3 year old has been known to wear a satin sparkly party dress to IKEA 🤷‍♀️ we've got so many party dresses as we got loads.of hand me downstairs

If you can't wear what ever the hell you want at 4, when can you 🤷‍♀️

So is ours. I totally don't expect it to last

It’s a lovely dress and her birthday!

MrsSkylerWhite · 28/01/2025 19:47

(Our now 30 year old was in an Ariel costume for her 4th. With hindsight, the tail wasn’t terribly practical 🤣)

NameChanges123 · 28/01/2025 19:48

It's lovely and not too expensive.

If it gets uncleanably dirty maybe you could dye it afterwards...

Doggymummar · 28/01/2025 21:28

It was always dresses like this for parties when I was little. Nowadays kids seem to be in leggings a lot. Go for it.

Plaided · 28/01/2025 21:32

It looks like a regular child’s summer dress! Definitely not bridal. Children wear superhero costumes, ballerina dresses, and jeans! I honestly wouldn’t worry about it, she’s 4 - nobody will be judging a 4yr old.

LuckyOrMaybe · 28/01/2025 21:35

My daughter was a flowergirl at just turned 4, with a gorgeous dress made for her. That dress attended a lot of parties (especially but not only those with a "princess" or "fairy" theme) over the next few years. The dress you link to would look like a play-dress in comparison, so absolutely go for it, looks a lovely party outfit.

(come to think of it, the last outing "the dress" got, I think, was as a costume in a school play for her younger brother when he was 7...)

Iwiicit · 28/01/2025 21:37

If she likes it and it makes her happy, let her wear it. It's cheap and as long as you don't mind that it'll end up filthy, it's all good.
My daughter's choice of clothing at that age was ridiculous but she felt she was rocking it. You need to pick your battles!

Pinkelephant66 · 28/01/2025 21:38

Doesn’t look like a bridesmaid dress at all. If it does get ruined, it’s only 22 quid 🤷‍♀️

Favouritefruits · 28/01/2025 21:49

It’s very summery, but she’s 4 and if she likes it then so what! Just remember a cardigan !

Nottodaythankyou123 · 28/01/2025 22:05

I don’t think it looks like a bridesmaid dress but even if it does, who cares, she’s 4 🤷🏼‍♀️ my almost 4 year old frequents Tesco in an Elsa dress and wellies - the random clothing choices are part of their charm! I’m here for it before the social pressure about what’s “cool” hits them.

rainbowunicorn · 28/01/2025 22:45

It doesn't look like a bridesmaids dress, just a normal little girls party dress. It's hardly expensive so I would just get it.

Liveandletlive18 · 28/01/2025 22:55

It's beautiful from the front. Personally I think the suitability is questionable at the back for a child but that's just my thoughts.

Asked my sister to find out if it was just my thoughts & she agreed, back of dress more suited to an adult.

Pyjamatimenow · 28/01/2025 23:02

It’s fine if she likes it. Just looks like a plain dress that will probably be ruined. Isn’t there anything more exciting? They don’t wear party dresses for long. You can get gorgeous sparkly ones hardly worn from Vinted for a few pounds

I think children tend to run a lot hotter at that age than adults, especially at a party. I don’t think the back will be an issue, especially if it’s the summer. If not I’m sure a cardigan will keep her warm!
