With a shamefaced grin at myself for starting a pram thread ... bearing in mind its a long time since I had a baby ... would i really regret only being able to use a carseat for the first six months (rather than a "proper" pram?)

Space is limited as this is baby no. 3 and we have a dog so not lots of boot space.

Victorian terraced house so long narrow hall.

I def want a pram/puschair that I can attach a car seat to and was looking at quinny zapp purely for the size of it when folded. However, as it can't be used without the car seat until baby is 6 months old, and I know children shouldnt be in car seats for too long, I wonder if I'm being daft for considering it?

I have a Loola (& the carry cot) - I'm pretty happy with it. We have a v. tiny Victorian terrace & car & it fits in fine, is very easy to fold, we walk a lot & wanted something sturdy where baby can face me. It's very easy to push but is heavy especially with a larger baby (e.g. 15mo) in the normal seat when rear facing. Shopping basket is useless.

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 07/05/2008 20:16

well the only ones we could fit in our car (ie the smallest) from birth were loola, graco mojo, mclaren and silver cross pop (there may be more, limited range here).

so they are all small.

thechico ct 04 we have is absolutely fab if that fits your car (it doesnt ours but ours is really miniscule), would wholeheartedly recommend that- not rear facing sadly but sio soft for a newborn and lovely to push

scottishmummy · 07/05/2008 20:28

MamaG · 07/05/2008 20:50

Mamag I have an old micralite I bought second hand and we love it. Have recently bought a new one with carrycot on ebay for the same price. It could be the same guy as he has a lot of them. It is a really good deal, but the carrycot is the old one that has different attachments to the car seat, so you will have to factor in that cost, but they are reasonably priced online. I've persuaded my sister to buy the adapters for us as a baby present.

pinkyminky · 07/05/2008 22:11

Micralite is long and thin when folded. WE have to put it in the rear footwell of my mum's little Getz.

MamaMaiasaura · 07/05/2008 22:13

we have bugaboo gecko - you can get bits to attach car seat to it but we have stuck with the pram and will convery to chair when ds2 is 6 months ish. IS brilliant. Very light, easy to fold and steer.

Babies lok so squashed up in the carseats and ds2 loves streching out in his pram - he is now 19 weeks (tomorrow) and still happy in it.

pinkyminky · 07/05/2008 22:21

Just had a look on ebay- yep it's the same seller. I am really pleased with mine.

PeachyHas4BoysAndLovesIt · 08/05/2008 08:37

if you consider a gecko or any bugaboo hold it first, my smallish hands actually hurt after a short push! handle too wide

misdee · 08/05/2008 08:43

the micralite is good. have one one. its really light to lift and really easy to fold as well.

MamaG · 08/05/2008 10:33

I'm really liking the look of the micralite. I think the best thing to do would be for me to go to a shop and have a push/fold etc and then buy one off ebay. Long and thin when folded sounds ideal for me to be honest. I could take out the headrest on th ebit of hte back seat where baby is going to be, and then stick the pushchair so most of it is in the boot and the rest is "over" the baby (does that make sense?) leaving enough room for the dog!

scottishmummy · 08/05/2008 12:55

it folds like a maclaren in length.very slim.JLewis stock them.have a wee push put your lo in it.i do recommend this

pinkyminky · 08/05/2008 14:20

I liked my bug frog, but I prefer the micralite, TBH. It has the same off roadiness without the weight and the bulkiness when folded. The micralite just stands folded behind our kitchen door, and the fact that it stands up by itself when folded is a big bonus. Peachy, IKWYM about the bug handles- I used to have a hard time pushing the pram and holding the dog's lead,..when we had the dog...(sniff).
MIcralite is prolly as long as the biggest mclaren when folded, but much thinner, and of course the big wheels pop off, and you can turn the handles in if needed. DD really likes the sling type seat, too.
You may struggle to find one in a store, though. JLewis in cheadle and trafford centre here don't have them.

MamaG · 08/05/2008 14:31

My lo isn't actually due until October I'm just getting my research in now, so I do have a bit of time to find one!

OP posts:
pinkyminky · 08/05/2008 14:32

haha we bought ours from the guy on ebay and I'm not due til November 3!

MamaG · 08/05/2008 14:32

ooh - I know what I meant to ask - when the carrycot is on it, do you have to unclip (does it clip?) the carrycot to fold it? Is it fiddly or a quick click-clunk type thing?

OP posts:
MamaG · 08/05/2008 14:33

oh thank goodness for that pm!

My Mum is buying me my pram of choice (bless her) so I think a trip to a big pram shop first with her, then we'll order one off ebay.

It looks ideal though, it really does.
