ssd · 05/05/2008 15:16

banana, I like this range too

we have 2 of the cd unit/shelf thingies if you are near to Glasgow?

couldn't post them, they weigh a ton!

schneebly · 05/05/2008 15:17

again

HTH

ShinyPinkShoes · 05/05/2008 15:24

I would have said they were pretty cheap for what they are.

The only things remotely similar and cheaper I could find were

This and This and This although not the best of patterns the design is ok

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 15:25

Thank you schneebly and ssd.

I have looked at the one with baskets but they were tiny, and the wooden shelf thing looked cheap in our hallway.

Nowhere near Glasgow unfortunately but I appreciate all help and offers.

This rack from Cotswold is cheaper and holds more shoes, but it's unfinished wood and you can't sit on it.

Leksvik is really cheap for what it is.

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 15:34

Our problem is if it goes to the right as we come in it sticks out at the bottom of the stairs, and if it goes the other isde the door can't fully open. Sigh. I want to move.

What is Leksvik?

WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 15:37

Leksvik is the range you linked to in your OP, NAB

bench from Argos - a bit cheaper (£40) but it looks it, and is prob MDF, not wood.

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 15:38

DOH! Will look at the Agos one.

Portis from IKEA has a matching hat rack

All their shoe/hat racks are here

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 15:51

Ouch! £7.50 delivery.

La redoute have some fairly cheap hallway stuff. Sorry, no link, gotta go and pick the kids up - they always have loads of discount codes too - I could probably dredge one up for you.

Are you feeling more positive or still a bit down?

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 16:31

Aw, bless you for asking.

  • as have been cleaing and tidying all day and most of the house looks great.
  • as so tired all the time and kids not getting enough attention.

I found the website quite hard to navigate and everything seemed very dear. £600+ for a corner cupboard!

charity shops?
i think they originals are cheap for what they are, and youwould be lucky to find naything elsewhere

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 18:36

Which items do you think are cheap, stitch?

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 18:38

I think she means the IKEA ones you started with, NAB - we all think they are great value.

stitch · 05/05/2008 18:43

yes nab. the original ones. i havent read the rest of the thread.
i dont think they are cheap. nothing is cheap when you dont have themoney, (believe me, i know) but for what they are, i think you would be hard pressed to find available, brand new at a lower price.

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 18:45

Oh, with you now.

It is frustrating as the shoe thing from Ikea is exactly what I want but they are about 5cm too big to fit, so even if I could find the money, it wouldn't do for us.

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 18:49

5cm too big which way, NAB? What dimensions would fit? Does it matter if you can't sit on it? Is the shoe storage the most important thing or the rack?

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 19:15

Length ways.

Not looking to buy it to sit on so that doesn't matter. It is just for somewhere for the little monkeys angels to put their shoes.

The rack would be nice for matching and the extra shelf but we have a coat rack with about 6 hooks so not as urgent.

someone in my block of flats had chucked out a set of wooden shelves. i rescued them from th ebin, and have been using them for the last 8 years now, mainly as shoe storage, but have variously used as bookshelf, and garage storage.
we currently have this bought specifically for shoe storage, (it fits perfectly) but still find we use the ole shelves....
my friend has bought some baskets from ikea with lids, and they store shoes in there. look good too..

NotABanana · 05/05/2008 19:46

I would love that but no way can we afford £229.

OP posts:
WendyWeber · 05/05/2008 19:46

How about 2 of these, stacked, from John Lewis? (Much shorter than the IKEA one though)
