Wanted: a beautiful kettle which does not conk out after 12 months

Here is our old kettle to give you an idea of what I think is beautiful. I really love it and it has just died but we can't buy another the same because tbh it was a bit crap. Very noisy and has not lasted at all well.

So does anyone know of nicely designed kettle that is also good quality? And doesn't cost £50 ideally, we could do without the expense atm

oh don't franny

i have spent a small fortune on blardy kettles in recent tyimes

i have been blaming the thames, but maybe tis just the fault of shite kettlemakers (unless you too have thames water)

Don't bother paying out for a Dualit one. Ours has just died after just 2 and a bit years

JL your best bet, several of their own make have 3 year guarantees and not £50 either!

expatinscotland · 14/01/2008 21:21

i've tried the pricey ones and the cheapos, and they all die on me.

so i've just stuck to cheapo ones.

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:21

no we haven't thames water

everything we buy breaks and we don't buy cheap shit

we have tried recently to get stuff repaired and our electrician just can't do it - he has tried, but they don't design them in such a way that they can be fixed, or he can't get the parts

it is depressing and annoying

this one is quite like your old one

Tutter · 14/01/2008 21:23

pruners we too have that krups one

the little lip on the lid fails to retract properly - tis a pain the backside to take off to refill

prob due to limescale build-up but we've only had it about 3 months

Cremolafoam · 14/01/2008 21:23

i have had a pink jelly bodum one for 9 years without incidentdo they still make those?. it's a bit gay mind!

rantinghousewife · 14/01/2008 21:23

Will be keeping an eye on this thread, our kettle conks out every year. We've bought cheap ones, we've bought not so cheap ones.
Maybe I just boil the kettle too often.

Pannacotta · 14/01/2008 21:24

We bought the Magimix one, it is £70 but ours came with 3 yr guarantee, is very fast and quiet and I love it!

rantinghousewife · 14/01/2008 21:24

I rather like the idea of a gay kettle.

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:24

Pannacotta I am finding that one just a little too tall and bulbous to look perfect [kettle fraek] but the 3 year guarantee and the price on the JL ones is a winner, I think

thank you

We had the same experience as Hulababy with Dualit one, lasted around 2 years.

Avoid them -I would expect more for a £50-60 kettle

ComeOVeneer · 14/01/2008 21:27

I've just ordered this.

OP posts:
FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:31

oooh pistachio yours is the prettiest of all [swoon]

comeoveneer that looks fab actually. 3 seconds! how can it do it?

OP posts:
Pannacotta · 14/01/2008 21:31

Franny is that one not a tad PONCEY?!
I think the cream and chrome magimix one on the JL page is fab but it doesnt seem to come with the same guarantee as the pure chrome ones...

inamuckingfuddle · 14/01/2008 21:33

we've just bought the JL £30 from the link further down, looks nice, boils water quickly, good price - what more coudl you want? Actually I want a posh designer one but am on a not overspending buying fripperies drive at the moment

FrannyandZooey · 14/01/2008 21:35

i want the alessi one

it has a bird whistle
