We have a crappy Hotpoint Aquarius DW60 that has broken down loads and so we need to replace it. We bought it about 2 years ago without doing any research and so are trying to learn from our mistake and get a better one that will a) work, consistently b) last a good few years c) has a fast cycle

So, please, tell me about your dishwasher. Dh has done some internet research and the Siemens one here comes out well, any experience? Good or not?

TIA for answering my v tedious question.

We can see this thread is old now so the suggestions will be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher page with plenty of great options that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

I think Bosch always comes out as the favourite on these threads... My first was still going strong after 7 years when we replaced it (for a bigger one)

purplemonkeydishwasher · 12/01/2008 10:40

got all excited there for a minute. i thought i was being mentioned in a thread title! right, back to my own little world again...

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 13:15

We are on our third in five years and have finally just got a Bosch. It was quite a bit more expensive but I can tell already that it is better made. The drawers slide out so much easier and don't snag at the side which is what buggered up our last one. There alway used to be so much tugging and pushing and now it just gllllides
Oh my sad boring life to lurve a dishwasher.

castille · 12/01/2008 13:18

We have a Siemens which is great - the configuration of racks is better than a lot we've used so you can put loads in it. It has a 45 degree quick wash, a 55 degree economy wash and a normal 60 degree wash, plus a rinse, obviously. Had it for 2 years without a single problem.

But then Siemens and Bosch are the same manufacturer. Get one or the other and be happy!

inamuckingfuddle · 12/01/2008 13:19

this is our AEG had it 4+ years no porblems at all, best feature imo is a 30 min programme that is more energy efficient but still cleans your average load well

VanillaPumpkin · 12/01/2008 13:39

We have the basic Bosch one and only ever use the eco wash. It does a great job. We have had it 5 years. It is a sensible set up inside for getting lots in IYKWIM. Recommend Bosch. We got the basic one with a dial as our logic was there was less to go wrong and we only ever use one setting, not like a washing machine. The cycle takes a long time though but that is easy to work round. We just have lots of mugs .

bran · 12/01/2008 14:43

We have a Neff, and I don't recommend it. I doesn't really get things clean on the cool wash so everything has to be done on the longer hot wash. I think it also releases too much salt as our cutlery started to get rust spots quite soon after we got it.

Bosch, bosch, bosch. Buy a Bosch!

Saggarmakersbottomknocker · 12/01/2008 14:54

Mines an AEG similar to muckingfuddle's except integrated. It's has a 30 min thingy which is good but the longer washes are too long IMO (probably becuase everything is cold fill these days and takes longer - I prefer hot/cold)

3andnomore · 12/01/2008 14:57

We have an Indesit one, and I would NOT recommend it...it's rubbish, and if we can ever afford anew one we will get a new one...either AEG/Bosch or if the money would go that far a MIele...

cece · 12/01/2008 14:58

I bought a Bosch just before christmas. It is lovely. I cna look up the model number if you wouold like.

hairycaterpillar · 12/01/2008 15:00

We had a reasonably expensive Hoover one but it recently blew up on us and was pretty rubbish at washing.

Replaced with cheap Bosch one and it is really quiet, washes brilliantly and drys well.

miobombino · 12/01/2008 15:03

Miele - a model with a flat cutlery layer/drawer on top. This frees lots of extra space for pots/pans down below. Also washes well on all cycles. They are certainly expensive, but do last longer. I speak from personal experience, as well as passing on advice from a plumber who'd come along to fix a different appliance. As he was on a fixed call out rate he asked if i'd any other jobs; when he saw the dishwasher he said in his experience they were the best, with the longest average lifespan.

we are a family of six, and my Miele is on generally twice a day, or 3 times at weekends. have had a plumber out once to look at it in 4.5 years (and it's older than that as we inherited it from previous owners of our current house), and the problem turned out to be a somewhat blocked kitchen sink u bend rather than a problem with the Miele per se.

miobombino · 12/01/2008 15:05

Oh and it's really quiet too; we have a kitchen diner where i spend a lot of my day. Soetimes i have to listen really hard to hear it at all. It just quietly sighs in the corner.

chopchopbusybusy · 12/01/2008 15:07

Our Bosch broke down a few months ago when it was just over two years old and so no longer in guarantee. It was not going to be economical to repair, so we replaced it with a Zanussi as our previous one had lasted for over 8 years with no problems.

To be fair, I think we probably were just a bit unlucky, but it p*ssed me off enough to not want to buy another.

ArcticRoll · 12/01/2008 15:09

We've had a Bosch one for over nine years and never had a problem with it.

lailasmum · 12/01/2008 15:19

Have a hotpoint FDW70-is fine, does what it is supposed to and never had any issues. Its quiet and was about £230. Also like the timer delay feature so can put it on overnight and take advantage of cheap electricity.

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 16:23

Gosh, THANK YOU, all of you, this is fantastic. Now, I like the sound of that Miele one, that's the other brand dh found came up well in reviews, what's the model miobambino? I like the sound of a flat layer for cutlery, the bloody six compartment basket does take up too much room imo. This is the first weekend without a dishwasher and already it's pissing us off having to wash up. I'd forgotten how boring and time consuming it is.

Oh I had a Zanussi(before the beloved Bosch), it packed up after 18 months, I swore then NEVER to buy anything Znussi again.

calzone · 12/01/2008 16:26

My dishwasher is arriving on Tuesday and I am soooo excited! Must ask DH what it is as he did lots of internet research too.

I hate handwashing cutlery!

Iota · 12/01/2008 16:26

We had a Zanussi for about 10 years.
Have had a Bosch for the last 2

isaidno · 12/01/2008 16:30

We have a zanussi, which is now 10 years old and (touch wood) going fine - never had anything wrong with it.

keeptakingthetablets · 12/01/2008 16:31

We went on the which website - I think you can get a 30 day free trial online, and went for a whirlpool which I would NEVER have chosen voluntarily, but having gotten through a Siemens AND AEG in 6 years, we wanted to do some research this time.

We've had the Whirlpool 5406 for three months, and I was pleasantly shocked. It's practically silent, cleans and dries well, and it was seriously cheap.

In my heart of hearts I wanted a Miele but tightwad thrifty DH reckoned we should try a non-premium brand for a change
