We have a crappy Hotpoint Aquarius DW60 that has broken down loads and so we need to replace it. We bought it about 2 years ago without doing any research and so are trying to learn from our mistake and get a better one that will a) work, consistently b) last a good few years c) has a fast cycle

So, please, tell me about your dishwasher. Dh has done some internet research and the Siemens one here comes out well, any experience? Good or not?

TIA for answering my v tedious question.

We can see this thread is old now so the suggestions will be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for recommendations, we’ve recently updated our best dishwasher page with plenty of great options that are loved by Mumsnet users. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

have been out www, and came back to see if you'd chosen a dishwasher yet !

I have a Miele G881 SC. Bear in mind that I'm not sure how old it is, so model numbers may have changed, plus mine is an integral one with a front to match the kitchen cabinets; however I'm sure it comes as a freestanding option too.

Good luck with your choice.

WideWebWitch · 12/01/2008 17:05

Oh thank you again all of you, how lovely. Calzone, tell your dh to come on and post to my dh about this would you? He's been actually NAGGING me to come onto mumsnet today "please can you go and see what they said about which dishwasher" because he does actually trust that you lot know everything He's gone for a walk right now because he's grumpy having washed up after (roast) lunch. We must buy this SOON!

We have the second cheapest from the cheapest Bosch. We got it after having 4 different ones in 5 years. The last was a hotpoint and the door came adrift within three months.

The bosch is lovely. It is fully integrated, but was simple enough for us to fit ourselves. It has a 35c wash that takes only about 25 - 30 mins. Strangely, the 50c wash seems to take about 2 and half hours though

pigsinmud · 12/01/2008 18:47

BOSCH. Mine is only 3 years old and it's been fab. No experience of any others as this was our first one. Sounds similar to themoon66 - eco wash takes ages, but that's fine as put it on at night.

nannyL · 12/01/2008 20:27

i recommend miele and bosch

have used both and they have been great...
also recommend John Lewis and Siemens, they seem got as well

i 100% unrecommend hotpoint; we had one at my old work
it was awful; we always had to wash on the longest hottest pots and pan settings and even then loads of stuff was NOT clean... often it would go on twice, even 3 times cause stuff just was NOT clean.
we had a 'dishwasher man' come out several times, found nothing "wrong"
anyway after just 2 years my old bosses got so cross with it they got rid of it (in full working order) and got a new john lewis machine which is SOO much better and cleans the stuff!

tissy · 12/01/2008 20:32

we have a Bosch that wasn't new when I married dh 10 yrs ago
don't know how long the cycle is, though, I always switch it on last thing at night

WideWebWitch · 13/01/2008 11:48

Thank you again everyone. I am going to JL shortly to look at some and I hope, to buy one. Will look at Bosch and Miele ones and will post which one I got for anyone searching archives for future.

Oh I love my dishwasher. We researched loads on MN, online, in shops, friends for a year, and finally decided on Bosch Exxcel. Mid-range Bosch so was not too expensive, has stainless steel inside bottom which I was told was better than classixx which i plastic and more likely to break? uses a small amount of water, has 4 options including eco and half load, is quiet, easy to fill, and has a child lock.

I love my Bosch!!!

PavlovtheCat · 13/01/2008 11:56

Oh, and importantly, it cleans fantastically!

MoosMa · 13/01/2008 13:29

It has a child lock? That's sold it for me!

WendyWeber · 13/01/2008 13:46

Which just did dishwashers, www - as you see Miele are streets ahead, Bosch behind them. We have an ancient basic Bosch which is pretty good.

Bosch SKT5102 Classixx
Price: £300
Score: 75%
Type: Compact
If you want a compact, tabletop dishwasher, this is our recommendation. This diminutive Bosch takes just 4 place settings but cleans and dries well. Bosch dishwashers are reliable. It's easy to use but rather noisy. Water/energy efficiency is very good. Wash time on the normal program is two hours and 36 minutes. The machine can't be operated with a timer.

Miele G1102SC
Price: £482
Score: 71%
Type: Slimline freestanding
If you?re tight on space but still need room for 9 place settings we would recommend this dishwasher as the best you could buy. This slimline model from Miele may be a scaled down version of its larger machines, but its performance isn?t compromised.
The Normal program, which lasted 134 minutes, gave very good cleaning, rinsing and drying results, and was reasonably efficient in terms of water and electricity usage. The Eco program gave excellent performance, but took 180 minutes to deliver clean crockery and glassware.

Miele G1222SC
Price: £580
Score: 71%
Type: Full-sized freestanding
The latest product evolution of a recent Best Buy, the G1220SC, this dishwasher generally lives up to Miele?s high standards for spotless dishes and sparkling glasses on both the normal and eco programs. Miele G1232SC
Price: £800
Score: 71%
Type: Full-sized freestanding
This Best Buy stainless-steel machine gives even more compelling reasons why Miele should be at the top of your list when purchasing a dishwasher. Stunning performance on the 136 minute normal program leaves glasses sparkling and dishes pristine, although drying efficiency could be a tiny bit better.
The eco setting adds 40 minutes to the duration, but repays you in terms of energy and water consumption. It?s easy to load, and quiet once you shut the door, so it?s as pleasurable to use as any kitchen appliance can be.

This freestanding dishwasher from Bosch is the best of the slimline models on test. Its washing performance is outstanding both when cleaning dishes on its main program and on the Eco program.

This full-sized freestanding model from Bosch is outstanding at washing crockery, cutlery and glassware.
Whether you're running the main or Eco programs, the Bosch will leave your plates and glasses sparkling and clean.

Ohhhh noooo, just seen you last posted 2 hours ago.

Bet you get a Miele anyway

Twinkie1 · 13/01/2008 13:48

Used to have a zanussi - was great.

Went and bought a Bosch when we moved - it is shite - top tray so lom can't even get dinner plates int he bottom rack have to wash them by hand!

MoosMa · 13/01/2008 16:51

Isn't the top tray adjustable?

hunkermunker · 13/01/2008 16:55

Bosch. And my top tray's adjustable and I have two cutlery baskets - I put one on the top rack for all the plastic children's Ikea cutlery I have so it doesn't melt

Not sure of model number. I got it from Redhill Appliances. Much cheaper than anywhere else at the time.

hunkermunker · 13/01/2008 16:57

Oh, and when I was looking at them, there were all sorts of fancy-sounding extras on the pricier ones, then I thought I'd never use them and really I just wanted something that would wash the dishes. Which it does, beautifully and quietly. For about £300 inc delivery, iirc. And I got a 2-year warranty with it too.

Wonderwomannot · 13/01/2008 16:58

We have Bosch and it works a treat - no problems!

WideWebWitch · 13/01/2008 17:08

Hello! I got a Miele with a slide out top tray for cutlery, that was what sold it, it was £579 so I think it's this one, c&p from your post WW
