I have an 02 scenic the 1.9 diesel model.

It is fabulous for transporting the kids and everything else plus the kitchen sink. Because it is quite high up you dont have to bend to get kids in and out of car seats and for that reason alone I would recomend the car.

It is not fast or joyful to drive though. It is a bit like driving a bus, but it is not difficult or anything.

What would you like to know specifically?

chocolatespiders · 28/11/2007 21:47

oh i could tell you in 3 weeks when i pick mine up

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 21:51

Got an hour?DH is looking over my shoulder making sure i dont just ask about the prettiest colour.
Is it reliable and does it take the punishment of a boysterous(sp?)2.5 ds?
Is it expensive to insure and service?
Not much to answer then eh?
Ha.DH has just asked what DH stands for i have told him it stands for dick head!

I love my Scenic, really can't see any bad points, except it's not a 4X4, and so I don't like driving over fields, or up really steep hills.(I covet a Range Rover) I have a 2003 model, and in 4 years nothing has ever gone wrong. I think I have a 1600 engine (does that sound right) and would'nt recommend anything less peowerfull.

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 21:58

Happy driving chocspiders!
Mrs L C.Thanks for that i was thinking about the RX4 version as well not quite sure where i will go off roading though. We are building a really good case for a new car to show DH.

nobodysfool - pmsl at Dick Head

Looking at scenics myself - same model / age as you. Have you looked at the parkers review online? I think they are quite helpful, they give insurance groups, probs to look out for, fuel economy, service intervals, best models to go for etc

An alternative is the Citroen Xsara Picasso. Similar to scenic poss a bit more roomy inside and I think a larger boot. I looked at one at the weekend but build quality not quite to the standards of my focus . I mention them only because they are coming down in price pretty quickly recently due to a new model being or coming out - you might get a bargain on one.

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 22:03

Dh says the citreon is a push me pull you car and can only tell which way its facing as the lights are diff colours-dont think he likes them eh!
Had look at Parkers but thought i would ask the REAL experts.

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 22:15

OP posts:
coby · 28/11/2007 22:17

OK then I will rephrase...DH makes a good, but obvious, point.

lou33 · 28/11/2007 22:21

lol i wasnt selling it to you, its a motability car, but thought you might be interested in the pros and cons of that type too!

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 22:21

Much better thank you.He is still looking over my shoulder.....does he really think im going discuss anything private? As if i would. Not me.Never!Penis sizes anybody?

Scenics suffer from:

Seatbelt pretensioner wiring faults which brings on the airbag light.

Have been kown to suffer from sunroof leaks due to incorrectly fitted drainage pipes.

Has been known that 1.9 tdi diesels blow up by sucking oil through the turbo.

Apart from that they are okay. But make sure you get one with FSH.

Picassos:

Early ones had a lot of recalls.

They are both good for the money though.

These are mecahnic DH's views. HTH.

lou33 · 28/11/2007 22:23

i dont have a cock (last time i checked), but if i did, my car would make it twitch a bit

i love it

nobodysfool · 28/11/2007 22:24

Lou33 i know you wasnt selling it to me but i can only afford an older car than you and as DH says they make new models fro a reason and the reason is they are better than the older models.Yeah Yeah he IS a car bore.EVO widow,Top Gear widow etc.

OP posts:
LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/11/2007 22:35

Did you not really want a Scenic then?

LadyOfTheFlowers · 28/11/2007 22:35

DH adds, he did work for Renault for a bit, not trying to put you off, but those are some of the things he remembers.

screaminghabdabs · 28/11/2007 22:37

We bought a 52 plate scenic RX4 from new and have had nothing but trouble with it.

To date:
steers off the road to the left since purchase with no explanation from renault (they say as it's an off-roader it's meant to do this)
2 replacement exhausts (both have snapped in half)
water leaks from sun roof
Clutch failure
rust under bonnet (within 6 months of purchase)
2 replacement fuel pumps
Foul smelling/faulty air-con
fauilure of egr valve (whatever that is) leading to engine failure on motorway
and finally, complete engine failure (blew up) at 75 mph carrying the entire family on a weekend away.

Needless to say, we will not be buying a renault again and the car has been sitting in Renault London West for 5 months awaiting the engine replacement. Without a courtesy car.

Rant over. We are sadly not the only Scenic owners with these problems it appears and the matter is in the hands of a solicitor as Renault Customer Services say nthing to do with them
More recent models meant to be better....

MrsLynetteScavo · 28/11/2007 22:41

I don't get the off-road Scenic. Why not just get a proper 4x4?

coby · 28/11/2007 22:45

apparently the 4 x 4 really is crappy - thats all I hear about it, nothing good at all.
