mazzystar · 13/10/2007 18:43

possibly a remote control car of some sort, but maybe, if i'm feeling very very flush vr if granny chips in, i might get him a likeabike. he has just had his birthday and some pretend power tools, a playmobil crane and a little cement mixer have all gone down a storm.

Raggydoll · 13/10/2007 18:45

we are getting 4 yr old ds a castle and papo figures (fantasy ones - 2 headed dragons and knights etc). we are hoping there is several years worth of interest rather than the usual 5 min novelty.

gegs73 · 13/10/2007 18:48

We're getting DS1 3.5 at Christmas lots of Star Wars figures, Power Ranger stuff and couple of books (he is very into action figures).

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 18:50

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 18:50

ok - will i get flamed for this

we might get a vtech games console thingy!

yomellamoHelly · 13/10/2007 18:53

Ds1 is 4 in a week. Is getting a scooter from his gps. From us he's getting a transformer and bits and bobs. He got a castle last year and still shows no interest.
Has said he wants a kerplunk and a rupert bear treehouse! (Christmas?) Bought one of his friends the game operation which has gone down well apparently.
Craft stuff also going down well at the moment. Stickers ever popular.

Raggydoll · 13/10/2007 18:55

ds is really into action figures too. He also has some dinsosaurs which he plays with loads and they are really tough, he bashes them together in pretend prehistoric wars and they withstand even the most boisterous play.

ArmadilloDaMan · 13/10/2007 18:56

this

He loves it and will fit in it for a few years to come. He loves hiding in things and this will be perfect as the cover pulls right over the front of the chair.

ArmadilloDaMan · 13/10/2007 18:57

oh he also wants a baby duck (real of course) that he's been asking for for the past year.

He's gonna be disapointed on that front.

Raggydoll · 13/10/2007 18:57

The castle is a scary tower type one from le toy van ... hang on i'll try to link... i have high hopes for this so no more stories of castles not being played with .

Raggydoll · 13/10/2007 19:00

Lullabyloo · 13/10/2007 19:01

more brio
more duplo
more playmobil
easy rider bike
books
wooden crane

ArmadilloDaMan · 13/10/2007 19:03

Have you seen some of the new duplo/lego ranges? Very good (we get the regular catalogue since I bought the pirate ship). They've bought back the pirate stuff (in duplo) and doing lots of castles and workmen (diggers, roadsigns, etc) sets.

ds wants the fire station

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 19:11

We've already got a fortress type thing (from ELC last year)....umm kerplunk and operation - ds (and his slightly older dd) loves playing games -will put those on the list. Duplo range sounds worth a look

ds1 has just turned 5, for his 4th birthday and the xmas 3 months later he had (from various people);

  • castle and figures (he pined for this, I brought it and it sat in the spare room for a couple of months before his birthday and he stroked the box lovingly every day). He played with the bloody thing ONCE.
  • power rangers, have been a massive hit and added to.
  • lego, and at just 5 is really getting into it.
  • hama beads, an ongoing obsession ever since his 4th birthday, he loves them and we are getting to the point that I am wondering where to put the new creations.
  • books (always have books).
  • marble run.
  • Top Trumps, these have done wonders for his number recongition and concepts. We had Junior Power Rangers, then dinosaurs, space and wonders of the world.
  • Remote controlled car. He also had other bits, crafty - glitter glues, felts etc and some things that he hasn't been bothered about.
handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 19:12

What are Top Trumps?

OP posts:
ChasingSquirrels · 13/10/2007 19:12

oh yes Kerplunk, though I hate setting it up. Guess Who is another good game for a 4yo.

Fireflyfairy2 · 13/10/2007 19:14

My wee boy will be 3 on the 27th Dec & he is getting a tractor. It seems so juvenile compared to all the rest of you though

We live on a farm in rural NI though, so it's perfect

Also adding a bit onto their outside climbing frame for them [dd age 6 on 24th dec]

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 19:15

Here is my recommendation

www.elc.co.uk/toy-42973?&parent_category_id=529

Got it for his 3rd birthday in April. He ignored it initially but now plays with it frequently

top trumps. cards with various facts on them with an assosicated score. you play against each other, chose a category and the one with the highest score in that category wins, then go onto the next card. the junior ones have 4 categories, scores 0 - 10. The others are much harder, dinosaurs have 6 or 7 categories, much larger numbers etc. DS has very good number concepts and very quickly grasped the dinosaur ones, but had to play with us as his friends struggled. But the junior ones are simpler. They are aeons old, my 39yo brother had them as a child (although I didn't).

ChasingSquirrels · 13/10/2007 19:17

3 is different again to 4 though isn't it, ds1 had a tractor and a kids keyboard for his 3rd xmas.
