Having had loads of success with a likeabike, we are now going to get him a proper bike with pedals. (Apparently clever parents buy the proper bike in the first place and take off the pedals). Probably won't be getting him much else as this will be a big present. However, I will be investing in a first aid course specialising in broken bones...

LucyJones · 13/10/2007 19:20

Hi HMC
Ds has been asking for anything to do with Doctor Who.
He's still majorly into cars and dinosaurs.
He hasn't got a trike so we were thinking of getting one of those.
He loves Star Wars too and will be getting some figures in his stocking I think.

NairobiOrBloodSuckingBats · 13/10/2007 19:23

ds is 3.5 and is getting a playmobil pirate ship. He absolutely adores his scooter by the way, best tenner ever spent...

ja9 · 13/10/2007 19:33

any bike recommendations? he was 3 in august and has only had a trike so far.

bozza · 13/10/2007 19:47

I would suggest getting playmobil and real lego.

mumfor1standfinaltime · 13/10/2007 19:49

Ds is 3 in January and we are buying him some duplo. He had some last xmas but has only just started to play with it.

Lullabyloo · 13/10/2007 19:49

ds would have no idea what power rangers/star wars/doctor who etc was

he loves lego..he has baskets of it that were mine as a child, but loves duplo too
He spends hours playing with his brio making up incredible adventures & with his playmobil farm/vehicles & pirate set

His other love is all my old fisher price stuff...garage/airport/house/farm & all the little people & cars

handlemecarefully · 13/10/2007 19:51

Hi lucyjones right back at yer

Re bike recommendations, the best thing to do ja9 is just find your local specialist bike shop and they will give you very good advice. That's what we did

Thanks for explaining Top Trumps Chasing Squirrels - sounds interesting. Although might wait until his 4th birthday in April if he is a shade too young to appreciate them

oooggs · 13/10/2007 19:55

ds1 is 4 in dec and we are looking into emgergency vehcile lego, pirate dressing up stuff, pirate ship (elc), books & bits for his wooden train track - like an engine shed. These are ideas to be banded/bought from other members of the family as well

tassisssss · 13/10/2007 19:55

I have no idea for my 4.5 year old

Maybe a scooter though he still likes his chunky Postman Pat one so I'd have preferred to hold off and get big boy one for 5th b'day in April

I think he'd like Power Rangers - I have no idea where to start - and more stuff from Cars but he already has heaps.

I'm wondering about doing lego, but he still really likes his duplo.

FrannyandZooey · 13/10/2007 20:32

Ds 4.5

i think we may be getting a tagalong bike (something like this if we can find a good deal on a 2nd hand one}

Otherwise I have not got a clue. We often just get a few good presents, tbh, rather than a big one.

accessorizewithbabysick · 13/10/2007 20:42

Really interesting to see what other boys are into! I haven't hear of half of this stuff. He's getting Peter Pan on DVD for birthday (December 14th) then handmade pirate outfit from gp's for christmas (she's really going to town on it). DS2 will be 4, ds1 will be 1, I was thinking wheely bugs for both of them but I'm not sure now. Definitely some brio bits as we don't have much and building stuff whether duplo or otherwise as he builds stuff all day. Anybody got ideas for 4 year olds that won't end up choking their younger brothers to death?

bozza · 13/10/2007 20:51

Well when my DS was 4 and my DD was 1 I just got DS what I thought he would like (lego, playmobil etc) without concerning myself with DD's safety.

HMC I would hold off the top trumps for now for your DS, I do think he is probably a little bit young - but your DD is probably just the perfect age for a pack in her stocking (and you can get girly ones).

.

tassisssss · 13/10/2007 20:53

accessorize - I have a 13 month old and a 4.5 year old. DD got wheelybug for her first b'day and while ds (4.5) loves it I'd say he's a little big for it. It is fab though, so do consider for your younger ds.

sympathise re the what to get that wee sibling won't choke on (or wreck!). This is putting me off playmobil. Duplo is OK and dd can (sort of) play with it too. You could get the zoo set as younger ds would probably like the animals. We have quite an eclectic mix of duplo (mostly from ebay!) and it's the people, animals and vehicles that are the best bits (oh and make sure you have a big base to build on!)

bozza · 13/10/2007 21:25

Yes I don't think I would get two wheelybugs. Let your older child "borrow" the younger child's. What about brio track and trains for the 4yo? Not all that dangerous. The main problem we had was that DD took great delight in wrecking DS's precious layouts.

muppetgirl · 13/10/2007 21:32

Am making him a racing car track out of 3 sheets of mdf. I previously stuck down wooden track to the same board and painted a scene which he's grown out of so I've prised it off and painted the race track in the same footprint as the train track. Added a pit stop lane and will try to make huts to put his racing cars -all from the film cars.

funnypeculiar · 13/10/2007 21:34

ds is 3.5
Possibly a bike. Not really thought about it

I asked him what we wanted & he said snow

GrapefruitMoon · 14/10/2007 08:01

Ds2 will be getting some more of the Planet Protectors stuff from ELC and maybe some Power Rangers thing or Playmobil. We already have loads of Lego from his older siblings so don't know if I will bother getting any more, though he does play with it a lot...

CaptainCaveman · 14/10/2007 08:26

and
at your skills Muppetgirl!! Wow.

Ds (3.7 in Dec)wants;

every toy in every advert in every advert break.

Hang on, that makes it sound like all he does is watch TV!

Current favourites (most asked for) are;
Moonsand
Baby bjorn dolls (!)
Castle

Othersideofthechannel · 14/10/2007 08:26

tack zap by Haba from us

playmobil and wooden train set bits will be suggested to any family members who don't have their own ideas

ChasingSquirrels · 14/10/2007 09:22

ah, yes if not 4 till april hold off on the top trumps, sorry I read the title as 4 and completely missed the 3-4 reference, so I am probably about 6-12 mo ahead on my suggestions.

MadamePlatypus · 14/10/2007 09:22

We have the same problems with small chokables. DS has been given some proper lego by grandparents, but can only play with it when DD (1) isn't around, so basically once in the last 6 months. However, I think Duplo is great. Does anybody have any idea how long it lasts for? Will it be redundant by his 5th birthday?

ChasingSquirrels · 14/10/2007 09:24

ds1 (just 5) isn't interested in the duplo anymore and hasn't been for a bit, ds1 (20mo) has been playing with it since he could crawl.
20mo is also fine with the lego, has been for a month or so, good job given how much ds1 got for his 5th!
