None

Get a shaguar instead.
They are fab

zippit · 22/07/2007 12:22

I wouldn't have any of those..get a subaru forester turbo

Cammelia · 22/07/2007 12:27

My dh did originally put Jag on the list

My current old Saab is getting to the end of her life

I'm considering waiting to see what the new in 2008 Merc CD estate will look like but I'm not sure whether my Saab will get happily though another winter (must have reliability as drive dd to school 9 miles away on a fast dangerous road)

We've had Saabs for 20 years and they have been brilliant cars - can't comment on the others. Excellent in bad weather conditions and the heating/ventilation/condensation clearing system is fantastic.

JammyPotter · 22/07/2007 12:30

dont know they are all good.

fwiw my sisters brand new bmw was on teh road for 2 weeks before the fuel pump broke which then left her without it for a further 5 weeks as there were no spare fuel pumps - think it has tarnished her view of the brand

she had a merc before and loved it.
i think i would opt for the volvo though

Cammelia · 22/07/2007 12:32

Yes ft agree but my car is 12 years old and has been pretty much nursed through its recent mot and I have had it properly serviced every year. Its got to the point where I can feel its getting ill and no point spending any more money on it.

JP the BMW is my least fav on the list (although my car before the Saab was a fab old 3 series touring which I loved). My dh is interested in BMW as they seem to have big discounts at the moment.

My dh used to have a big volvo which was great. The only one we've never had is a merc and i'm liking the look of them

What about an audi? Loved ours and very reliable.

chocolatemummy · 22/07/2007 19:11

my hubby is absolute car fanatic-drievs me crazy (get it!)

joking part- he knows an awful lot about cars and says for quality and street cred it has to be SAAB or Audi, quality but not necessarily luxury or good looks VW or volvo, hates BMW's

Cammelia · 22/07/2007 19:11

That's another one that dh tried to put on the list but someone I really dislike has one so its put me off them

Volvo is good.

We have the V50 diesel.

Reliable so far- 11,000 miles. Love the heated front seats...

nomdeplume · 22/07/2007 19:12

We had a Merc. Nice but nowhere near as good as what DH replaced it with, a Subaru Legacy Spec-B estate, very sporty, excellent equipment levels as standard, very reliable and goes like stink !

WilkiesWizardWheezes · 22/07/2007 19:13

LOOOOVVVVEEEE cars (although sadly not in your price bracket )

Personally would go with an Audi.

However, I would put your list in order of performance:

Merc
Saab
Volvo
BMW

In terms of pure sexiness:

BMW
Merc
Saab
Volvo

nomdeplume · 22/07/2007 19:13

bmw's are horribly wanky. Sorry. Supposed to be excellent cars though

nomedeplume

well said, didn't want to say incase someone here got one!
we are looking for a (newer) family hatchback at the moment and my dh is amazingly anal about it.
toyota's are good too, depends what you like th look of and price range really, good luck

PanicPants · 22/07/2007 19:16

Keep in mind the costs as well. Just to have my little A Class merc serviced was nearly £200 last month.

I'd definitly have an audi again. In fact going to have a look at the website....

nomdeplume · 22/07/2007 19:16

Obviously the 1 series and the X3 are the exception to the "BMW's are supposed to be excellent to drive rule"....

nomdeplume · 22/07/2007 19:17

I have yet to meet a BMW driver who doesn't think they are God's gift....

[prepares for a flaming from BMW owners]
