Today the charger part of the laptop has broken, not the actual charger and the battery is fine (took the whole thing to DB's to work out what was wrong using his charger and laptop) but the bit that actually you plug the power lead into on the laptop. How much am I looking at to get it fitted?? I only have a few minutes left on my battery (thanks to DB, charging it on his laptop)

can't you just replace the broken part ?

sparklygothkat · 28/06/2007 22:41

its actually not picking up that the charger is connected, and its a bit inside that has broken

IIRC our power lead and transformer died and it cost about £30

I think but that is a rough guess

try RL SUPPLIES in WATFORD

sparklygothkat · 28/06/2007 22:43

its not the charger, but the actual bit inside,

Depends what it's connected to inside, could be loads if it's attatched to the motherboard says dh who works in IT.

sparklygothkat · 28/06/2007 23:15

Where are you? Dh in computer fixing businessand knows people who fix laptops.
We're in Bedfordshire.

sparklygothkat · 29/06/2007 16:48

we were in herts. It a bugger, as the battery and the charger and the laptop works, just not the powerpoint

OP posts:
feetheart · 29/06/2007 17:34

I'm S Beds so maybe not far, do you want me to ask?

feetheart · 29/06/2007 17:34

Feeding children so in and out!

lou33 · 29/06/2007 17:35

cost me about 200 quid to replace the collapsed power socket on mine

sparklygothkat · 29/06/2007 18:23

if you don't mind asking, feetheart. If its too much we might as well buy a new one and flog this one on ebay, to someone who can fix it.

DH says, if it's the charging circuit which has failed and is on the motherboard then £269 for a new motherboard sounds like it's the right ballpark. It may be possible to fix the charging circuit, it might even be that it's just the socket which has failed and could be replaced. What's the make/model of the laptop?

It's quite a specialist job as a lot of local companies won't do the job for fear of shortcircuiting something and blowing the internals. I'm sure I've heard dh quoting £130 for sending t away to get it done.
What brand is it sparkly

bubblerock · 01/07/2007 19:34

I took my last laptop apart as I figured it was dead anyway so I may aswell have a go. The internal jack had snapped off in the power cable so I ordered a new one from Ebay Like this and replaced the other one. It seems to work but I'd already bought this one so it's shoved in a box somewhere.
The laptop before that one fell off the table and the connection became faulty until it permanently stopped charging from the mains and I claimed on my home insurance for it.

sparklygothkat · 01/07/2007 23:11

its a HP compac. Its annoying as I can't get on here much now, as DH is on the PC lots..

It has been knocked off the table quite a few times, I do have accidental cover on my house insurance.. would they really pay out??
