I thought these fancy new swish looking elec hobs, look scratched and shabby after a while - non/qui?

Gas for speed and control. Induction hobs are supposed to be good as they don't stay hot afterwrads unlike regular electric ones.

ah yes, but I heard with induction hobs you need special pans, magnetic ones or something, and heck! Its costing us a fortune already without having to replace our pan set. so dont think we will be going that route

another vote for gas here - had both depending on where I lived and gas trumps every time for me.

QueenofBleach · 27/05/2007 13:26

gas, so much better so much controllable and doens't take ages to cool down, so when you turn it off you can leave saucepan on and it stops cooking

collision · 27/05/2007 13:29

gas

mumemma · 27/05/2007 13:32

Gas every time and electric oven. We had one of those fancy electric ceramic (?) hobs once and it was awful, easy to clean but nightmare to use.

tegan · 27/05/2007 13:33

Gas

Whenevr the electric goes off I get everyone in my place for a hot cup of tea.

Wolfgirl · 27/05/2007 13:37

I am in favour of gas myself; DH likes the style and look of the new elec hobs. tegan you have made a valid point, that should we have the 'old fashioned' power cuts, then there is an alternative power source.

also, cat64 - good point about kids being able to see the flame,

however, the new elec hobs cool down really rapidly, so Im told.

Do still think I prefer gas. Mmmm..... now how to persuade DH...... tra-la-laaaah! xx

Gas! Oh I long for a gas hob, stupid ancient electric thing in this flat

SenoraPostrophe · 27/05/2007 13:46

gas. absoluetley no contest.

I have no idea of prices (have always rented) but would pay double for a gas hob.

Philomytha · 27/05/2007 14:00

Gas. I've had electric in the past, but gas is far more responsive and heats up faster. My new cooker has gas hobs and it's great.

Celerysoup · 27/05/2007 14:04

Gas - heats up quicker and more responsive when turned down - ie does what you wnt it to!! Also thinking about dc's can be seen easier - cant think its not on and throw something on hob/ try to climb up if my back is turned etc - ooh how exciting new kitchen ....

MuffinMclay · 27/05/2007 19:17

Gas hob, electric oven. We have an induction hob because there's no mains gas here, but I'd swap for gas if I could.

Toothyboy · 27/05/2007 19:19

Gas - no question, for the control and being able to leave the pan where it is (a must if you don't have much workspace)

redtoenails · 27/05/2007 19:21

gas - much more controllable and quicker to heat up.

lucymc · 27/05/2007 19:21

gas hob for sure. much more control, also gas oven if you can afford it.

Kewcumber · 27/05/2007 19:23

gas - no contest

sarahlou1uk · 28/05/2007 09:29

no contest in our house either - gas hob AND oven every time.

Amapoleon · 28/05/2007 09:42

We have electric as there is no mains gas where I live. I hate it!

Hulababy · 28/05/2007 09:44

Definitely get a gas hob. Have had electric before - the apartment had no gas. Hated it in comparison; have much less control over the cooking.

burek · 28/05/2007 09:45

have a combined gas and electric stove (2 of each) and an electric oven. I only end up using the electric rings if I have run out of space on the gas. And I wish my oven was gas sometimes, as it is very slow heating up.
