we have quite a new electric hob - now you do not have the control that you do with gas as it does not turn up and down instantly but I just move the pan away. I know that gas is better for cooking but I really like cooking and I am now really used to my electric hob.

Also I am very lazy and clumsy so I spill stuff. The idea of lifting off bits of metal and cleaning under things daily is too much for me. With the electric it cools down and I give it a squirt and a wipe and it looks good. anything burnt on scrapes off carefully with an old razor.

We have has it about four years and it still looks nice. I do wonder about gas and how much nicer it would be but in the big scheme of things an electric hob is not the end of the world!

We don't have mains gas, so we have an electric hob.

I have learnt to cook on it, but imo gas is so much easier, you have instant control with gas = with electric you have to think about what is going to happen in five minutes, not what is happening now, iykwim.

Good points made about electric being easier to clean, though.

How about one of those halogen ones? they are instant, and easy to clean - but I've not seen once since the mid 90s, so I may have missed a huge halogen health scare or sex scandal

oh no, Im dithering now. These new elec hobs do look good, and they are so far advanced to the old ones (and yes, Ive endured one in my early 'moving out of home' days! - in fact I think my sis still has one )

These new fancy ones cost a fortune, but....

Yes Dimple, they do look like low maintenance, and thats why Im dithering. But... also, a gas hob would provide alternative power source should anything happen!

oh dither dither..... (DH screaming at kids now, cant hear myself think!!!!)
