It's my neice's birthday coming up and have had a block on ideas! Any good ideas of what you have found a success for your one year olds?

xylophone, shape sorter

mummytosteven · 17/05/2007 20:51

fisher price peek a blocks. shape sorter. nice wooden stacking ring type toy. (john lewis do one, with 5,4,3,2,1 rings)

amateurmum · 17/05/2007 20:52

Stacking cups or Jack-in-the-Box if you want to spend a little more.

Hulababy · 17/05/2007 20:53

Oh and has to be limited in size, or each to pack away/get out again, as BIL/SIL have limited room for toys, etc. in their house. Could be for outside though.

Not sure on budget. Maybe £30 for the toy.

A little fold-up buggy for a doll. it folds up - so is small, can also be used outside, great timing because they begin to walk, she will love it for a long time

Hulababy · 17/05/2007 20:56

Ah, now DD got a puchchair for her first birthday and loved it. Niece isn't walking eyt but she is cruising, so that could be an idea. I think she is getting a doll as part of her present from my PILs.

Oh, just remembered, DS1's best 1st birthday gift was a pop up tunnel. great for limited space as it folds away. He spent ages crawling through it and it is now on it's third child.

Trinityrhino · 17/05/2007 21:07

I always buy a shape sorter for my kids first birthday

the pram is a very good idea

fisher price peek a blocks are great

Hulababy · 17/05/2007 21:28

Lots of good ideas, thanks.

She already has shape sorters.

I was going to say a pop up tunnel - ELC (andother places) do a set with tents on the end - all of which fold down.

Peek a blocks good - also like the look of those fisher price animal things that have come out recently.

An elc light and sound drum. Fab.

Washersaurus · 17/05/2007 21:46

A push along/ride-on type toy - Grandma bought DS one that plays annoying tunes and has a shape sorter bit on it...he loves it and keeps his little cars in the underseat compartment. Still a favourite nearly a year later.

Washersaurus · 17/05/2007 21:47

Also the peek a blocks incredicube has been a winner

amidaiwish · 17/05/2007 21:49

first trampoline
magna doodle / Tomy draw
Tomy aqua draw
walker with bricks (if not walking already)
doll & buggy
some ideas here

hoxtonchick · 17/05/2007 21:49

doll's buggy

bozza · 17/05/2007 21:50

I would say a pushchair (you know the £6 from ELC) is a brilliant thing to get. Ride-on car another good idea as that could be kept outside. We also started the happyland collection at that age although I know it states from 18 months.

Hulababy · 17/05/2007 21:53

I don't think she'd be big enough for the really basic buggies. they are really light and she would just pull them over towards herself. And she isn't very tall, so probably needs to be adjustable handle hegiht.

I think DD's came from Toys R Us, which was a bit more sturdy. Not seen it in there reently though.

A walker truck with bricks
One of those little wooden 4 wheeled push-trikes you can use indoors.

3sEnough · 23/05/2007 16:55

A helium balloon - my dd1 loved this at her first birthday and it was played with nonstop until it was very dead!
