Sun Protection for a Jane Slalom?

BethAndHerBrood · 01/05/2007 22:15

Last year when DS2 was born I bought a Jane parasol. But this year I find out it doesn't fit on the pushchair seat when the hood is on! So what else do I use? I am quietly seething about this, as the parasol was not cheap, and now I'm going to have to fork out for something else. GRRRRRR!!!!!!

Protect-a-bub, I love mine.

Check eBay though, might find a better deal. Bertini also do similar.

i have a nomad, and the best sun protection is to unzip the hood at the back and angle it forward, tbh. is it the same for the slalom?

cathcart · 01/05/2007 22:39

i have a nomad and use a universal parasol i got from boots. it clips on to the front bar bit.

AitchTwoOh · 01/05/2007 22:49

(just unzip the hood at the back and push the metal bar forward, cathcart... it was designed to do that, really)

cathcart · 01/05/2007 23:13

mmmm.... i will try that aitch, thankyou! still using car seat in the nomad frame at the mo but will prob change to front facing soon - she's growing up!

AitchTwoOh · 01/05/2007 23:14

i cried when i swapped over...

cathcart · 01/05/2007 23:16

lol! thank god! I thought I was being ridiculous!

AitchTwoOh · 01/05/2007 23:20

god, no. all my pals cried... thank god we could confess to each other.

BethAndHerBrood · 02/05/2007 09:55

Thanks Aitch, have just tried that and it doesn't work! The front part of the hood is fastened to the pram handle/frame by some fabric loops. So I can't move it any further forward than normal.

Would the protect-a -bub work if the sun was right in front of you? I'm thinking not, but am prepared to be corrected!!

Yes Beth, you can pull the protect-a-bub down quite far.
But actually just tried on my Carrera and the hood itself comes down really far on that too.

Not sure how this protect a bub will help if you are walking into the sun though, £25 seems s lot for something that is not that effective??

Personally think that a lot of these shades are useless unless you are walking in a straight line or adjust them every 10 seconds. I just use the hood of the buggy if it helps, slather DS in SPF 50 plus a hat. When we went to oz with him i just dressed him in long sleeves, cotton trousers etc.

bigcar · 02/05/2007 11:05

I have a shade a babe, dont know if it will fit on a Jane though. It looks like a rain cover that fits over the hood, but is made from spf50 mesh rather than plastic and completely covers the child like a rain cover would. Not cheap though about £30 although maybe cheaper on ebay, they have them on the boots website if you want to have a look at one.

AitchTwoOh · 02/05/2007 11:26

beth, i'm goign to nobble the next woman i see with a slalom and investigate for you...

LittleMan · 02/05/2007 11:39

Beth
Also have a Jane slalom pro and have bought the matching umbrella at considerable cost. Ok last summer when ds in car seat but now find, like you that can't have hood and umbrella at same time - what a load of rubbish. Anyhow, a friend has a new 07slalom pro and has been told that this has been rectified and you can get different umbrellas, i am hoping that they fix to the place where car seat slips in but as yet have not investigated enough to find out - need to find a stockist with a new range cataglogue! Let me know if you come across anything!

BethAndHerBrood · 02/05/2007 11:43

Littleman, I will go to the shop where I bought the pram from and see what they say. It's cr@p design, isn't it?

Aitch, LOL at you harassing some poor innocent woman in the street!! Just hope it's not me!!!

Really really poor, can't believe they designed something so stupid when the rest of the slalom is great and has won so many awards!! Fingers crossed my friend is right!

LittleMan · 02/05/2007 11:56

Oh, Oh, see here.
janeparasol .

LittleMan · 02/05/2007 12:01

Just called them, apparently attaches anywhere to the metal chasis so can be used with the pushchair with any combination of carseat/pram or not. Only in black though and I have the brown/orange slalom!!

BethAndHerBrood · 02/05/2007 12:15

Mmmmm....... My slalom is navy blue, so it wouldn't look too bad. BUT, isn't twoleftfeet really rubbish? I think it's been slated on here more than once. And I can get a shade a babe for the same price.

I used a mothercare parasol last year on my Slalom Pro (with main pushchair seat not car seat). I had to move it around a bit to ensure DS always stayed shaded, but it seemed to work ok. When we went to Egpyt I was more worried as sun all day, v little cloud etc. We got a shade-a-babe but only took our Mclaren so have not tried it on Slalom but am sure it would work. Not sure DS would appreciate it now he is older as he likes to flirt with the ladies...

feetheart · 02/05/2007 17:36

I have a Shade-a-babe that I used twice on our Jane 360 Powertrack. Got the timing wrong with the weather and never used it again. If you want it I'm willing to part with it for a tenner!

LittleMan · 02/05/2007 21:18

Feetheart, can I ask what colour shade-a-babe you have?

BethAndHerBrood · 02/05/2007 21:20

feetheart, if it's black/navy I'll have it, if that's okay? Couldn't do with a bright colour though!!!
