Clarks shoes with a dolly hidden in the heel - WHY?

Obviously my DD's wanted these ones yesterday in Clarks, even though they weren't the best looking shoe or even the best fit.

OOh can you find them and do a link - sound hideous btw. Don't understand those Lelli Kelly things either with the make-up.

Housemum · 25/04/2007 11:07

I thought Lelli Kelly was some cheap rubbish - then saw them in shop and realised they weer actually leather and £40!

I try not to let DD2 watch TV with adverts but she was watching with older sister the other day - advert must have been on a couple of times, because we went into Ravel later and she said - "ooh, look, it's Curly Curly the cutest shoes that girls adore". (she's 4) Mind you, one of the assistants came up to her and gave her a free mobile phone shaped lipgloss! (shame she likes it so much, apparently some people are daft enough to buy the unused freebies on eBay for £10 - £15!)

sandyballs · 25/04/2007 11:07

I've just looked on their website and can't find them, maybe they're a really new thing. I've certainly never seen them before. You lift a little flap at the heel of the inner sole and a tiny dolly is laying in the heel. In the other shoe, under the flap is a tiny wardrobe which contains miniscule shoes and a change of clothes. My DD's were ecstatic and I caved in and bought them .

These are boring black school shoes by the way.

my god they sound absolutely brilliant

I want some

oliveoil · 25/04/2007 11:10

dd1 would love these

Rebi · 25/04/2007 11:16

they have done boy's shoes with little spaceship in the heel for a number of years. My ds got them about 3 years ago and lost spaceship on first day at school - he was gutted!

Do think it is a cynical marketing ploy though. They are more expensive school shoes and kids are obviously going to prefer them. (says she having already fallen for it!)

btw LUV the Lelli Kelly shoes but far too expensive for my dd who would have them distroyed within two weeks. Also think they don't need cynical marketing ploy ie make-up.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 25/04/2007 11:17

Ds2 would love a pair. I bet they don't do a 'boy' version though.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 25/04/2007 11:17

I stand corrected, Rebi I might look for those next time...

Rebi · 25/04/2007 11:19

I suppose I should concede that the shop assistant didn't let on about the spaceship until he had picked them already! So maybe not so cynical!

Nemo2007 · 25/04/2007 11:19

not seen those clarks shoes..but for all the lelli kelly fans you can get them from USA on ebay for at least half the price. For some reason I was looking at them last week not that DD1 is even old enough for them so marketing must have got to me

I remember my nanna getting me a pair of white clarks shoes when I was about 5 that came with a little gold key - they were not practical or sensible or easy to keep clean and they cost a fortune but I loved them swoon

MrsBadger · 25/04/2007 11:23

ah, Magic Steps, they were...

Housemum · 25/04/2007 11:33

I bet school teachers hate the dolly/spaceman shoes. Nephew's school is not keen on the trainers/shoes with flashing lights that can be switched on and off - think Clarks thought they were doing teachers a favour, but the kids just fiddle with the buttons.

lunavix · 25/04/2007 11:40

I remember the ones with the key. I wanted them so badly

My cousins little girl has a pair of shoe with squeakers in the heels that squeak when she walks - you can;t turn them off either

lunavix · 25/04/2007 11:46

bah

here

Gingerbear · 25/04/2007 11:47

Dolly in the heel -yeuk. They will stink and be full of fungi in no time!

MrsBadger · 25/04/2007 11:48

We saw (and heard )lots of kids with the squeaky shoes when we were in Nepal last year - figured it was the low-tech equivalent of the LED light-up trainers...

MegaLegs · 25/04/2007 11:50

I thought they were quite sweet for the first five mins. She wore them a t a family do and kept walking about during the speeches and making us all giggle.

MegaLegs · 25/04/2007 11:51

here they are, they look so cute but don't be fooled

rumpypumpy · 25/04/2007 11:53

My brother had several pairs of shoes in the '60s with a compass in the heel. I was always very jealous that there was no girl equivalent. I suppose it could be argued that a compass has its uses but at the age of 10 he really wouldn't have needed to navigate his way home from school on the bus!

Housemum · 25/04/2007 11:56

What sort of a man (obviously) invents shoes with a squeak??!!
