Is a trip trap highchair worth the money?

kentuckyfreudchicken · 13/03/2007 17:58

Need a new highchair, hate foul cossato aurora I had but swore would never spend ridiculous amount of money on a highchair again.
So is it worth it and any cheaper alternatives anyone can suggest?

well, i really, really rate the ikea ones for £16. it would be either that or the tripp-trapp for me.

littleducks · 13/03/2007 17:59

tchibo trip trap a like!

hana · 13/03/2007 18:00

yes!
there are oodles of threads on this v subject

we have 2 and will prob stretch to a 3rd when baby can sit up properly for it.

claricebean · 13/03/2007 18:02

Tripp trapp have been our best buy to date. We have three. DD1 (aged 6), DD2 (4) and DS (2) all use them. They're fab.

aznerak · 13/03/2007 18:05

100% worth it!

jenkel · 13/03/2007 19:12

We have 2 of the Tchibo ones, at least half the price of the Tripp Trapp and seem just as good, one is 3 years old and the other is 2, used every day and still look good.

MuminBrum · 13/03/2007 19:24

Yes, Tripp Trapp all the way.

kentuckyfreudchicken · 13/03/2007 19:41

thanks everyone, will look at tchibo and get that or tripp trapp. Now need to convince DH

Another vote for Tchibo - but you have to jump in quick when they do come up as they're only available a couple of times a year.

Ali5 · 13/03/2007 19:52

Love our trip trap, worth every penny (of MIL's money! )

moondog · 13/03/2007 19:54

Tripp Trapp great but so is the £16 Antelop IKEA one referred to here.
It looks nice, doesn't take up a lot of room and is a breeze to clean.

tortoiseSHELL · 13/03/2007 19:55

We've just bought a babydan one, which is very like the tripp trapp one, but half the price. We're very very pleased with it, and ds2 loves it. Something to be aware of is the basic price for a tripp trapp (£109) doesn't include the baby set (the bar and the straps etc) so you need to fork out another £25 or so to be able to use it for a baby.

chipo · 13/03/2007 22:04

We have the babydan too and think its great. Just as good as a tripp trapp IMO

Hulababy · 13/03/2007 22:06

IMO the Tripp Trapp is worth the money and it rates as our best buy for DD. She started using it at 5 months and still uses it now at almost 5yo. And it will be used for a while to come - I even use it at the computer at timeas! It gets almost daily use and it still looks in very good condition. It looks stylish and is very hard wearing. It is easy to clean. IMO it does look better than the alternatives. Considering the amount of use, the cost per use is excellent!

Hulababy · 13/03/2007 22:07

Our Tripp Trapp was £140 inc the chair, baby kit, cushion set (not necessary IMO) and delivery.

ScotGirl · 13/03/2007 22:23

I have the Babydan too and it is great - bought online from Boots so got lots of points. Saw them in TKMaxx a few months ago for £49.99 - almost bought another but managed to restrain myself ( I only have one baby!)

CODalmighty · 13/03/2007 22:23

no get a cheapo ikea one

ScotGirl · 13/03/2007 22:26

We have Babydan at home and Ikea one at Grans house - the Babydan takes up hardly any floor area - I am always tripping up over the legs of the Ikea one - it has quite a wide footprint compared to the wooden ones I think...

CODalmighty · 13/03/2007 22:26

ye sbut who the fuck wants a high chair for 5 years
god no
fling it asap

Goodasgold · 13/03/2007 22:26

We got the tchibo one from ebay 17.49 worth every penny.
The only caution with this sort of seat is the lack of tray, we have to have a major clean after every meal.

MuminBrum · 14/03/2007 10:12

Codalmighty, the Tripp Trapp is adjustable (seat and footboard move down) so it's exactly the right height for your child as he/she grows.

Enid · 14/03/2007 10:13

agree with cod

couldnt wait to move out of the highchair stage personally

whats wrong with the ikea one (10) then a normal chair?

Enid · 14/03/2007 10:14

dd2 would REFUSE to sit at something that was once a highchair

she'd be horrified (4)

Piffle · 14/03/2007 10:16

I love our tripp trapp and so does dd
I think there are cheaper alternatives around so worth shopping around.
We are getting another for the new baby
DD uses hers for the piano as well (she is 4.5)

suzycreamcheese · 14/03/2007 10:18

yes...definately..
..high chairs gimme the horrors..
