What should I buy DS for his first birthday????

DS is 1 at the end of July and everyone is asking "what does he want for his birthday?" I would like to give some suggestions so that the presents are appropriate but i really don't know what to say!!
My DD is nearly 3 and so alot of the unisex type toys were bought for her and he will grow into them. I've checked the best buys on the site and we have the more popular ones already with the exception of the Crazy Coupe which looks like a good choice, he's a bit young but he will grow into it or it could be a joint present with DD, her birthday is 2 weeks later.
I thought about a garage of some kind, we have some of the little peoples set and there is a garage in that - anyone know if it is any good or a better alternative.

Please help, I need some suggestions over a range of prices - grand parents are generous but I just don't want them to waste their money. If there is anything worth saving for then they could be persuaded to give money towards it if i can tell them that it is for a particular present.

Many Thanks.

Bagpuss30 - is this the same set as the one you recommended? Billy Blue's train set . There seems to be a huge difference in price. Thanks for the recommendation: my DS is one next month and it'll make a lovely gift.

Codswallop: there is a pop-up paddling pool in the Letterbox catalogue www.letterbox.com and I bought one in ToysRUs

CQ, yes it is the same one. Am surprised by price difference . We bought ours three years ago from Daisy and Tom though.

I hope your ds gets as much pleasure out of it as ours has .

Thanks everyone, I've been away so this was my first opportunity to have a look at the replies. The Crazy Coupe idea seems to be universally endorsed, I agree that sandpits, tents and the trampoline are also good but DD has already got those and is willing to share them - may be different when DS walking, but they will learn!!!

We've also started a Brio collection, I was struggling at Christmas and encouraged people to contribute to a boxed set and then add the bigger pieces later.

I'm also interested in the little tykes police rocker, what age do they go up to and does anyone know if the asda one is cheaper than argos??

Any other ideas??
Thanks
D.

Bosworthbear, my Little Tikes Police Rocker came on Monday (only ordered Thursday night)from the website I mentioned below. It was £20 plus £3.50 p&p. They also had some other cheap stuff and I got a couple of other things too...

Argos do not do the police rocker but do the little puppy one for £19.99.

Toys'r'us do the police rocker for £29.99.

I tried my ds (10 months) on a friend's rocker yesterday and he loved it. Her dd is 2 1/2 and still uses hers.
