What should I buy DS for his first birthday????

DS is 1 at the end of July and everyone is asking "what does he want for his birthday?" I would like to give some suggestions so that the presents are appropriate but i really don't know what to say!!
My DD is nearly 3 and so alot of the unisex type toys were bought for her and he will grow into them. I've checked the best buys on the site and we have the more popular ones already with the exception of the Crazy Coupe which looks like a good choice, he's a bit young but he will grow into it or it could be a joint present with DD, her birthday is 2 weeks later.
I thought about a garage of some kind, we have some of the little peoples set and there is a garage in that - anyone know if it is any good or a better alternative.

Please help, I need some suggestions over a range of prices - grand parents are generous but I just don't want them to waste their money. If there is anything worth saving for then they could be persuaded to give money towards it if i can tell them that it is for a particular present.

What about a contribution towards a swing or climbing frame? That way both your children can use it and the TP ones grow with the children so you can customise it for their ages.

We have the old style Little People Garage and have to say it didn't really get much use by ds on his own apart from as a landing point for aeroplanes, Thunderbirds etc although the bus, old style town, plane and school did get played with. However now that dd has the house and other bits like dr.surgery and family car it has come more into its own again and they play with it almost every day (they're 6 and almost 3). The new one looks rather more interesting than ours, with more ramps. Otherwise how about a train set (we started with My First Thomas and graduated to Brio)to which they could all add bits.

I think the idea of something joint is also good - climbing frame, sandpit etc. ds still squeezes into the Cozy Coupe and he had it from around 14 months!

We got DS a swing which he loved. As for the coupe, his auntie and uncle got him that when he was 1 and he's hardly ever out the thing. Kids for some reason love them and I'm sure he would have a great time with it.

Little people garage really good as is the rocking police car by little tikes. Invest in Brio/similar stuff or if all else fails CASH

We bought a Brio Friends train set for ds's 1st birthday. It is the Billy Blue's Set here which is still being played with nearly 3 years later.

Yeah all good ideas; Brio is fab (i wouldn't bother with a plastic train set at all) or Sainsburys/asda cheaper versions of course; we have 2 summer b/days and have always bought a joint outdoor thign (until this yr when DD (3) wanted a belle dress!) eg trampoline, slide, pop-up tents and tunnels, sandpit. All useful for all ages up to 6 and maybe beyond. Certainly DS1 (5) still loves the trampoline.

agree with blu - I though it was the law that every one year old had to have a brick trolley for their birthday but since yours in in summmer think paddling pool and garden things are good too. DS1 is January but you have made me realsie that DS2 is one in August - we are going to buy him a Tripp Trapp (so mean ) but I guess other people might ask so I'll be watching this thread very closely!

Am really interested in this thread as ds is 1 in a couple of months and 2 1/2 year old dd has so many toys, I'm struggling to think of anything to get him.

Rocking Police car sounds a good idea though. Anyone know where the best place to get them is? Especially internet sires.

I saw the rocking police car pretty cheap at Asda last weekend. Was thinking about one for ds2 for xmas until dh gave me that look of spend anymore of my wages of stuff for in six months time and I'll divorce you.

We got ds nothing. He has so much anyway! We got just a little cuddly duck. If he ever asks what we got him for his 1st birthday we'll tell him whatever turns out to be a favourite! I guess it's a bit more difficult for you havinga three year old around to give evidence!

We just bought ds a mid year gift (17 months) a little plastic gardening set, which he loves!

fisil - we already got the poor sod nothing for Christmas so I wanted to get him something for his birthday. We haven't bought dd a birthday or Christmas gift yet either, bar a couple of token gifts, since her birthday is Christmas week and she gets so much stuff. We have tended to get her something in the summer. Don't know how long we can do that for though.

I would love it if people would put money into his savings account. My ds is three and very uninterested in more toys (and I don't want any in the house either, tbh). When asked what he wants for his birthday he invariably answers 'chocolate'!

I mean, he's three next birthday (Sept), not three now.
