Ladies, I have trawled t'internet to no avail so I'm turning to you all for help. You know that Ariel advert, the one where you do your washing at 30 degrees and save the world? You know how when that clever mummy does her washing lights go on all over the village? Well one of the lights that goes on is a lamp that projects stars all over a little boys bedroom ceiling. I MUST HAVE IT!!! My son is sleep erratic to say the least and I think it will help. I can't find it anywhere though? Does anyone have one and if so do you think it will help? Does anyone know where I can get my hands on one?

would not mind knowing - sorry i cannot help!

zephyrcat · 20/02/2007 20:18

What shape/style is the lamp?

TrinityRhino · 20/02/2007 20:21

like this one?

hattiesmum · 20/02/2007 20:22

It's a bog standard table lamp, probably about ooh, 30cm high? It revolves so that when the light is switched on, stars move around the ceiling. It's soooo pretty, if DS doesn't like it I shall put it in our bedroom!!

ComeOVeneer · 20/02/2007 20:29

Sorry link didn't scome out right, but that one doesn't revolve, just projects.

hattiesmum · 20/02/2007 20:29

COV - It's not the one that I saw on TV but it does the same job. Don't think I want to travel to Bournemouth to collect it though!

Coolmama · 20/02/2007 20:33

Coolmama · 20/02/2007 20:34

sorry x-poasts - was trying to fix CoV's link.

hattiesmum · 20/02/2007 20:35

Liz S, again it's not the one I saw but definitely as good! Mumsnetters save the day again! Thanks everybody, I'm off to Ikea!

Hattiesmum, in case you dont hae any luck with IKEA, have you thought of contacting Arial direct and asking them? Would also love to know who makes that lamp!

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 22/02/2007 00:06

i asked Ariel and got this in return -

" I am sorry to inform you that the item you are interested in obtaining
was made purely for our advertising purposes and unfortunately, is not
being manufactured for retail.
Nevertheless, I have shared your comments with the department
concerned.
Thank you for taking the time to get in touch.
Kind regards,

sorry ladies

I have this: it's not quite as good as the web site suggests, not as strong and sharp, and it's a bit smudgey if you have a very high ceiling, as I currently do. However, my husband adores it, and I like it very much - the baby is of course far too young to notice it - and it has real constellations to spot.

I'm not sure if you can buy it in the UK, but I'm sure a lot of stockists will ship internationally.

macneil · 22/02/2007 01:28

Oh, but, it doesn't revolve.

NappiesGalore · 22/02/2007 11:37

macneils twilight turtle here on ebay, ships to uk

hattiesmum · 22/02/2007 11:41

Cannot believe lamp does not exist in real life!!!! Shall we start a campaign and bombard the makers of Ariel until they start manufacturing it? Ooh, I wonder if they'd send me the one they made...

It was the same with the Budweiser advert a few years ago, my dh wanted the comelion phone (anyone remember that?) even budweiser could'nt tell us where to get the phone.

EllieKwithaHUGEbump · 22/02/2007 13:00

don't they know how frustrating it is seeing the exact thing you want, only to find out it isn't for sale?

gbiz68 · 06/03/2007 13:55

Hello, I have been looking everywhere for this light too. My little boy loves it. After months and months, I decided to email Ariel themselves too and this was their answer:
I?m sorry to inform you that we don?t have details of the source of the item shown in our advertising. Many of the items featured in our ads are produced specifically for advertising purposes and some ads are produced in foreign countries.

I appreciate how disappointing this must be and have passed your comments to the department concerned. I do hope you find an alternative and thank you again for your interest in our product.

Kind regards,

Michelle

After reading this, I was very disappointed but keep hoping that just maybe this item is sold elsewhere in the world since the advert might have been filmed in a different country! I will keep searching....

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 13:59

I have a revolving lamp (square, with wooden struts, and a 'carousel' bit inside the shade) which projects aquatic scenes on to the walls and ceiling. I bought it years ago but I can't remember where from. And it just says "Made in France" on it so not much help there. I'll have a google and see if I can find anything similar.

DrMarthaMcMoo · 06/03/2007 14:02

Here you go Not stars - but they are lovely - the fish one is the one we have and it projects fish and seaweed and an octopus - all revolving slowly around the room.

Hate to tell you though - it didn't make ds1 sleep any better

Ticklemonster · 06/03/2007 14:04

What about these

Pollyanna · 10/04/2007 22:07

Hattiesmum was it you that wrote into the Guardian Magazine on Saturday? - if not, the lamp is apparently from cleverlittlethings
