"browns" in dover street was even better last time i went (admittedly about 10 years ago).not touristy at all, very good service and very parent-friendly!

SenoraPostrophe · 25/05/2004 21:21

No, but we used to have tea at the Grand in Brighton. Lovely it was. I especially enjoyed making the place look untidy.

collision · 25/05/2004 21:22

Would def recommend Browns which is over the road from Ritz. Ritz is full of Americans and very touristy. Browns is old fashioned and like something out of Agatha Christie. Fab and the tea is wonderful.

"Brown's Hotel is closed for an extensive renovation and refurbishment until March 2005."

I got married at Browns Hotel. Didn't have tea, though.

webmum · 26/05/2004 13:18

Fortnum & MAson's is also nice, but then v. touristy

CountessDracula · 26/05/2004 13:21

Claridges much nicer IMO. Ritz v glitzy and the sarnies are often dry. Savoy nice and spacious but again the food wasn't great.

Claridges much more understated and smart. I adore it!

littlemissbossy · 26/05/2004 13:26

Not at the Ritz but here yummy, very nice!!

CountessDracula · 26/05/2004 13:27

lmb we went to a lovely wedding there, it's gorgeous that atrium isn't it?

littlemissbossy · 26/05/2004 13:39

yes it really is quite stunning, we stayed there overnight once as well, in one of their standard rooms - the bathroom was divided into 3 rooms!!! imagine what a suite would be like??

CountessDracula · 26/05/2004 13:40

still maintain Claridges is the best tea in town.

Thomcat · 26/05/2004 13:43

Year Claridges is lovely and so is the Lanesborough, beautiful and peaceful and Fortnum & Masons is nice too.
Ritz nice too but not my fav.

Northerner · 26/05/2004 13:48

I've been to Ritz, Savoy and Claridges and I'd say Claridges is the nicest.

Was at the Savoy just last week doing a site inspection and I must say it is not one of my favourites. Needs a damn good lick of paint IMO. Nearly died at the standard of some of the bedrooms. They call it Art Deco - I call it outdated.

CountessDracula · 26/05/2004 13:49

see cod everyone else agrees with me

smellymelly · 26/05/2004 13:55

Went to The Ritz about 20 years ago. Can't imagine it would change that much, too much of an institution. It was a lovely treat for us, when we were kids!!

What a brilliant idea for your Dad!
