i have a samsung one, it's a monster of a thing (not sure if it's normal depth!) but i love it, especially the icemaking thingy

was under a grand from comet but cost £150 to have it plumbed in

would recommend, i'm pleased with it

MIL has one. its bigger than usual depth, but has ice making and chilled water. i love using it. wish it was mine.

I got the LG Side by Side which I love - £939 from applicancy-city. The handles aren't white, like they look on the photo, but silver/titanium (ie brushed stainless steel effect) to match the rest of the fridge. And it's not B class - it's A class for efficiency (according to the sticker that came with it and other web sites I looked at).

It's great - like spacemonkey, I love the icemaking capability. Plus having cold water on tap is great when you're on a diet! It tells you the temperature of the fridge, the freezer AND the room, does crushed ice as well. However, the child lock only seems to work on the TYPE of water that is dispensed (ie water, crushed ice or cubes) - but maybe I should get the instruction manual out!

It has two vegetable/meat drawers - you can choose which you want each of them to be and the level of humidity you want. (A meat drawer is much colder - only just above freezing)

PS This kitchen of yours is going to be fantastic! You'll prbably get it finished before ours - only the floor, the walls and the tiles to do... plus possibly change the wrok surfaces to real granite (and we haven't even paid for it yet!) And I've still to use the oven on my range.

we have samsung as well, without icemaker though as fridge is too far away from water pipes and we are in a flat.
Was cheaper and cost nothing to plumb in!
Cost about £650 from Currys with free delivery but they WILL NOT take it up stairs!!!!

Are you sure you want side-by-side? My parents have one, it's brilliant certainly, but the freezer is very narrow and deep so things keep getting lost or forgotten at the back, and it's very tricky or down-right impossible to freeze large things like cakes bcause of the narrowness.

Personally, I dream and lust after an American 2/3 fridge on top of 1/3 freezer, and an American-size gas hob with lots of room between the burners.

Prettycandles has a good point. I wanted one with the freezer taking up the bottom third, but, at least in the states, there were none like that that also had a water and ice dispenser. Plus I also have a chest freezer, so I wasn't too bothered about freezer space. But you can't freeze really big items in the side by side models.

I've got the Samsung one too and I plumbed it in myself The water pipe and tap connector were there from the previous house owners though.

It's FAB. I like the narrow freezer bit as I use it for "every day" stuff like bread, the DSs stuff, ingredients for pizza, veg etc and have a normal freezer in the garage for long term items. The water/ice dispenser is a must for me - otherwise you might as well get a "normal" fridge freezer.

I don't find it narrow in practice, as it is open shelves (with the exception of the bottom shelf). I've also found that I'm LESS likely to lose stuff as I can see clearly into the shleves and moves things about rather than delving into drawers. It also means I can "clear" a shelf (stack everytign on top of the stufff on another shelf)if I'm needing to freeze sometihng large like a cake or pavlova.

But if width is an issue, Maytag does a "Zig-zag" fridge freezer which gives you the best of both worlds. I'd have loved it - but it was out of my price range. I think SofiaAmes has one.

Ooh Jan, that's the one I have, except it's called a "Wide by Side" here. Zig zag's a much better name!

... but I suppose I do still have the "old" freezer for extra storage - and am still threatening on buying a chest freezer for the garage for theR EALLY big items!

I really wanted the Maytag one but DH vetoed me on the basis of cost

Mine cost about $1300, I think, so about half the cost here. I don't think I could have justified spending twice that either.

KateandtheGirls - it's probably worth shipping it back AND having to use a transformer!
