Seriously hardscore handcream

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:37

is needed.

The ends of my fingers keep splitting and I just can't seem to use enough handcream. The splits on my thumb is making it impossible for me to sign my name.

I use Nutrogena and Vaseline Intensive care.
It has to be non-greasey.

norwegian formula or somesuch name?

Bagpuss30 · 05/12/2006 14:40

I have a Neal's Yard Elderflower one atm and it is the best I've tried. £15 a pot though....

JackieNoHoHo · 05/12/2006 14:41

Aveeno, people have said. I find that using that Germolene New Skin stuff (like clear nail varnish that you 'paint' on) is good for sealing it up (can sting a bit when you put it on theough). Helps stabilise the splits, so that when you use your fingers, the edges aren't being split further (owww).

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:41

Thanks Foxtrot I think you mean the Nutrogena one I have.
Neals yard, is it greasey?

I would try Crabtree and Evelyn's Hand recovery. It is an exfoliating scrub that leaves your hands with a lovely feel. It is a bit like a face mask for your hands. THe best hand cream I have found is L'Occitane range, or the Clarins hand stuff - have forgotten what it is called but it has a kind of mentholly smell and is v thick like vaseline.

The Body Shop's Hemp Hand Protector is amazing. Someone recommended it on MN and I tried it and even if you apply it just once a day it makes such a difference.

I really like it

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:44

JackieNoHoHo - That sounds like what I need. Do you get it too.
I remember dm used to get them too, but she said last night it comes from washing your hands so often with small children. She hasn't had it for years.

Where would I find the germoline stuff? Under hand care??

I use Elizabeth Arden eight hour intensive moisturizing hand treatment as it lasts a few washes. Expensive but lasts yonks.

Furball · 05/12/2006 14:45

I use Jason hand and body lotion from the health shop, lovely stuff soaks right in.

JackieNoHoHo · 05/12/2006 14:46

Yes, I get horrible split fingers, and so does my mum (still), so I think it's partially hereditary.

I think the germolene stuff is with general first aid - it's not specifically for use on fingers, but can be used on any cut instead of a plaster.

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:46

Sorry girls - posts x'd
Saadia - I will try that too, if it's not greasey. The Clarins stuff sounds greasey.

Oh yes, by the way, the Elizabeth Arden eight hour handcream is the "Clarins" one I was referring to. Whoops

yULeYSEES · 05/12/2006 14:48

Whydoo, ask at the counters in department store for testers. Give them a big smile and say you're looking for a good hand cream do they have a tester then you can see which you like best.

Bagpuss30 · 05/12/2006 14:49

Yes the Neal's Yard one is a bit greasy but not much, it is also quite highly scented. My mum has bad cracked hands and I persuaded her to try it, she doesn't use any other now.

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:50

yULeYSEES - That's a good idea. I might try that.
Do you think Boots would help?

EAEHIMHT isn't at all greasy by the way.

yULeYSEES · 05/12/2006 14:51

yes I'm sure they will

Clary · 05/12/2006 14:52

yes I started a thread on this very subject a couple of weeks ago and highly recommend the Body SHop hemp stuff. It's fab. Not greasy at all.

(Smell is a bit wappy, but who cares?)

WhyDooLittleStarsShine · 05/12/2006 14:52

It's not exactly for hands, but I get seriously deep cracks on my feet round the heel area and every day I use Flexitol foot cream (Boots often have it bogof) and it really makes a difference to my hands too (when rubbing in) as I sometimes get cracks in between my fingers and it seems to do the job. It's not greasy and smells of peppermint - it's brilliant.
