Anyone bought bean bag sofas at Ideal Home Show?

Rhiannon · 02/05/2002 18:54

At the Ideal Home show I spent £250 on a bean bag sofa and a chair from a company called Jools International. I am getting concerned about this as no one knows what's going on when you ring up, every time I speak to them my order is wrong etc etc. Can anyone put my mind at rest that this company is OK and that they have received their order? I too have been jumbrollied (and gazeboed). Ordered both for delivery in Mar/April this year. They turned up on 14 April but the Gazebo was not to the spec ordered, The delivery men said they would come back the following Saturday with the right product but left the Jumbrolly. They had forgotten to bring the storage cover but said they would bring this on the Saturday. After they had gone I inspected the Jumbrolly which had many faults and scratches. My wife phone Richard Wood who was abusive and said he would get back to us but never did. I Left many voicemails to which he never replied. Now trying to get the money back through credit card but he is just lying about what happened saying he has left us voicemails and wrote a letter stating the reason for not erecting the gazebo on 14 April was that the plot size was too small, all not true. I very much regret having had any dealings with this man who really is a rogue trader and I risk loosing a substantial amount of money if his lies are believed. I will do my best to expose him and if anybody out there would like to help please let me know.
Please all be warned Richard Geoffrey Wood and Hampshire Garden Centre should be avoided!!!

They never came back on the Saturday so never received the gazebo or the cover for the Jumbrolly. Still have the Jumbrolly with all its faults.

Report him to trading standards. I have and also I've sent a letter to some of the shows he may do showing the reports off the internet and saying how he is degrading their exhibitions!

Sally64 · 14/07/2014 17:31

We had the misfortune to come across this gentleman yesterday at the Kent County Show......and now we are realy worried!!! I only found this link as when we returned home we realised that our reciept was missing so did a KCS traders search to try & contract Mr Wood so that we could tell him we were going to cancel our card as all of it's details were on that form. Having read these notes we now believe that he didn't actually hand us a copy of the order (which is probably because it was an order & Invoice!!) but kept us talking to distract us from this fact.
He has repeatedly called today asking for payment from another card but we have told him him he will have to wait untill a replacement CC comes as we do not intend to use a debit card.
I dont mind paying if we recieve the goods but where do i stand if when they are delivered it is damaged, or the storage bag is missing and we refuse to sign for them and thus cancel the payment?

Ang2103 · 19/07/2014 23:51

The only way to try and stop him is to report him to trading standards as they will only act after enough complaints have been made about him as they told me they can not act to individual complaints. And report him and his tactics to as many shows as possible as he is putting their names and reputations into disgrace by them allowing him to trade there and maybe if we can stop his sales then at least we can stop him doing this to others

Ang2103 · 19/07/2014 23:52

Ed1959 what has been the outcome from your business with Mr Wood? Any further developments?

Ang2103 · 20/07/2014 00:11

First you have to call the Citizens Advice consumer helpline on 03454 04 05 06. They will listen and help to pass on to the trading standards. Tell them about this link or print it off and tell them your case. If enough complain they will have to act

We have had the misfortune of meeting Mr Richard Wood at the Caravan and Camping show at the NEC last October. Where we visited his stand selling summerhouses alongside his Jumbrollys. We have to be very careful how much information we can put at the moment on this forum because Mr Wood is taking us to court. Needless to say, our story is pretty much the same as every bodies else's, however WE NEED YOUR HELP
We have had to take legal advice and our solicitor informs us that our best chance of defending our case is to persuade someone who has had a bad experience with Mr Wood to come to court and give evidence. Despite the cost to us defending ourselves against this rogue trader we feel that it is important to win our case to try and stop Mr Wood continuously making peoples lives a misery by making false claims and promises. We have done nothing wrong and are a innocent party. Please if anyone can help us get in touch asap

Ang2103 · 14/08/2014 22:35

It was at that show he got us! Did he give you the correct copy of the invoice? He gave us the yellow copy that was the delivery note! He took us to court and only won because it says order and invoice in the top but maybe if we can show it's common practice for him to give the delivery note and not the customer copy that has the terms and conditions on the back you may have a chance

teresa217 · 14/08/2014 22:59

That's exactly what he did to us he gave us the blue copy with no terms or conditions. As you say it says order/invoice on it. Must be common practice for him

Ang2103 · 17/08/2014 17:14

The mirror done a piece on Richard Wood a few years ago and the reporter covering these sort of stories is Andrew Penman and his email is [email protected]. I have emailed the previous reporter and he says all who have issues should email Andrew with names dates contact details and their story and hopefully the mirror will do a follow up on Mr Wood

teresa217 · 18/08/2014 19:23

Thanks very much for the info which I will pursue. I will keep you posted.

ManorHouse · 21/09/2014 13:07

Hi
I have just succesfully taken this scum bag to court and won full compensation and refund on a Jumbrolly that never existed. Happy to discuss further. I am now formulating a formal complaint to the police and fraud office with regards to his conduct over the past three years. He has in excess of 120 judgements in various courts across the uk, time he was stopped once and for all.

teresa217 · 21/09/2014 22:38

It's really good to hear someone has actually been successful in taking this man to court. I hope I'm just as successful. I have been in touch with the NEC and suggested they look at this website and a couple of others before they let him exhibit at the Motorhome and Caravan show next month.
It may be a way of stopping him if he cannot exhibit at any shows.

tideisturning · 22/09/2014 09:22

Hiya, I have a plan. Why don't all the people who have been ripped off by the idiot join together and take him to court? It will get him where it hurts. I emailed the TV show cowboy builders but got no reply. But if several people emailed the show we might just be able to expose him and the team Paul who works for him. If your build was faulty it would have been down to Paul woos ter of Basingstoke

thanks
ed

Just to let everyone know that Mr Wood lost his case against me. The judge believed me. I was awarded costs but not my legal costs. The Judge said the case should never have got as far as it did. It has been a very stressful year. Hopefully anyone else in a similar position will have a successful result. There has to be an end to his dubious sales tactics.

tracycrow · 29/03/2015 19:04

We too had a bad time with Richard Wood and Jumbrolly from Garden Hampshire Gardens. It took 18months to get our money back all very stressful.

Vetkop · 22/04/2015 13:52

Hi

I met Richard Wood from the Hampshire Garden Furniture at a show. I saw his gazebos and asked for price list, to which he said it is utterly dependant on the garden and would need to look at the garden and provide a quote. He took down my contact details to contact me later, luckily I only wrote down my name and address and didn't sign anything or pay any deposit.

A couple of weeks later, he contacted me to arrange to perform the quote. During the quote alarm bells started ringing as he didn't seem to know much technically about gazebos, didn't conduct any proper measurement and refused to quote different prices and packages for me (or even discuss the options in any detail)

He he wrote the quote on one of the infamous delivery and order forms which I refused to sign, I informed him it is too expensive and I can't afford it. At that point he offered me an interest free loan (between friends and not through proper HP) which I also declined.

He left me with the blue copy (no printed Ts&Cs nor verbally discussed) and told me to consider the quote during the next couple of days as my discount would only be valid till then.

I've not heard anything yet and am hoping that the fact that I never signed any paperwork nor provided any payment details is suffice to avoid any of his shenanigans.

Had anyone experienced issues in the past from Hampshire Garden Furniture even without signing any forms?

Also I'm happy to support anyone who is embroiled in legal dispute with regards to his selling technique and modus operandi. Please feel free to contact me.

tracycrow · 22/04/2015 15:23

We also had a bad experience with Mr Wood and Jumbrolly. Please be very aware before you sign anything with this trader - Hampshire Garden Furniture Co.

teresa217 · 22/04/2015 19:22

I wish there was someway of putting him out of business. The dishonest devious man.

tracycrow · 24/04/2015 10:45

I have emailed all the exhibitors I can find and sent them this thread to warn about Richard Wood and Hampshire Garden Furniture.
Kent County Show got back to say they had also heard from other County Shows and he was now blacklisted from all Kent events.
I have also added a review to the .192 website, which already had 7 very negative reviews and .192 comes up quite high when you google. You can add your review at bit.ly/1Dg33E6 if you want.

charon5 · 30/06/2015 16:19

We too are having a run in with Richard Wood and the Retreat we ordered. He didn't give us terms and conditions and is now trying to enforce them, not to mention taking money without our knowledge or consent, a raft of fabrication and untruths and a failed delivery date. We have referred to the credit card company to get our money back and also reported him to trading standards. We need to stop this man trading, if anyone can help us or if we can help you, please let us know.

JayneGray · 16/07/2015 17:33

Just reading through all the comments about Richard Wood, I am awaiting a phone call from him now (which I'm sure I won't receive) because I've asked for my £650 deposit back. We ordered 2 umbrellas in March, only had one delivered and it doesn't work. I think I can probably get my money back through MasterCard, but I wanted him to pay it, as I guess MasterCard don't claim it back from him (?). Thought I would do a quick google on him, can't belive my eyes how much stuff there is to read! Nasty piece of work.
Anyway - did rogue traders do anything?
I thought I might set up a facebook page as a sort of anti-Hampshire Garden Furniture page, and post links to all this bad press. What does anyone else think? If I do it I will put the link on here and everyone could "like" it...

JayneGray · 16/07/2015 18:25

Ok I've done the facebook page - dunno how long I will get away with it for, but here's the link - www.facebook.com/RichardWoodRipOffConMan?skip_nax_wizard=true&ref_type=logout_gear
Please like and share, let's get him stamped out!

JayneGray · 17/07/2015 14:11

I've just reported Hampshire Garden Furniture (Jumbrollies) to Trading Standards (via Citizen's Advice) and the more people that report him, the more likely he is to be stopped. The phone number is 03454 040506, it only takes a few minutes and will definitely save someone else from going through all this grief!
