I did leave the sugar out as I read that on here, people don't use it, might try the salt as well. Made another perfect loaf for 7am this morning. It really is fab Kitty, you won't regret.

ludaloo · 11/11/2006 07:59

ahh it all went ok then UCM!
Well my mind is made up...I will get one...I think I'll look for the Panasonic..but on the internet and get it a bit cheaper!
Thanks all I'm glad I asked!!!

Have my machine on at the moment - just threw the ingredients in while waiting for kettle to boil!

I never use milk powder. I use more salt than they recommend as found first loaf a bit tasteless - will reduce the salt content gradually as I know it is not good for me.

Must try experimenting a bit more.

Kittypickle · 11/11/2006 08:09

Well that's a relief UCM as I am waiting for delivery from Amazon now for mine !

ludaloo · 11/11/2006 08:13

ooh kitty...how much was it if you don't mind me asking?

oh and just a general question...does the panasonic one leave a hole in the top of your bread...I was talking to someone who said their breadmaker left a hole in the top..where the mixing attachment folds up out the way while it cooks?? She said it doesn't fold away far enough up IYSWIM and she has to pull the bread out???
She couldn't remember the make of hers...
I'm thinking she must have an older model??
Do the stirring bits retract??

It was £70.88 and due for delivery the 14/15th so not too long hopefully. I decided that I didn't need the nut thingy as DD can't stand bits in her bread, so we'll just have to do the timer bit that Fio said about.

I shall have to explain to any viewers we get for our house ( just gone on the market) that I'm not trying to be obvious with the fresh bread smell, it's just that a bunch of people I have never met have gone on about the Panasonic so much that I have given in !

Kittypickle · 11/11/2006 08:26

Fio (bless her, I have quizzed her at length on MSN about this and she has been very patient) says that the hole is very small, she was expecting it to be much bigger from what she had heard.

ludaloo · 11/11/2006 08:27

lol! its good on here isn't it!

Kittypickle · 11/11/2006 08:28

Yes, great, it's costing me a fortune

ludaloo · 11/11/2006 08:31

oh so it does have a hole then...I thought she might of made to much bread...and it rose too high??????!!

OP posts:
Kittypickle · 11/11/2006 08:40

Well I'm not sure, I think it just has a hole. But a small one. Where are all the panasonicholics when you need them ?

BudaBeast · 11/11/2006 08:42

I am BudaBeast and I am a Panasonicaholic!

I get a small whole in the bottom of the bread. Not a problem though really.

ludaloo · 11/11/2006 08:43

hi buda

Don't leave out the salt UCM. I guarantee you will not be able to eat it! (speaking from experience due to forgetting it!)

BudaBeast · 11/11/2006 09:54

Well bread ready if anyone wants a slice of warm, freshly baked bread with butter and honey. Or I have some lovely blueberry jam??

UCM · 11/11/2006 12:30

HOLES - there is a 3/4 inch hold about 3/4 inch deep in the middle of the bottom of your loaf, and thats it. You really don't notice it.

Kittypickle · 13/11/2006 11:33

Mine has just arrived and DH is on the case apparently - well he disappeared into his office with the instruction manual !

kickassangel · 13/11/2006 21:58

we have the panasonic one with automatic dispenser & love it. we often make raisin bread set on the timer so wake up with fresh bread for breakfast. also make wholemeal bread with seeds in, and pizza dough. we've had ours a year, and still use it quite a lot. it does leave a hole in the bottom, but this is quite small, not a problem.
you can make dough ina good, large food processor, but you still need to leave it somewhere to rise, then knead it, then let it rise, then bake it. with a bread make you just measure in the ingredients, press some buttons & enjoy a few hours later.

thanks to all you lot and the nice people at the Inland Revenue who have just sent me a tax rebate I have one of these 253s on order now, my Christmas present to myself
