With this panasonic, d'you get a timer so you can stick ingredients in at bedtime and wake up to a warm loaf?

holidaymum · 08/11/2006 10:47

read this Alan!!!!

holidaymum · 08/11/2006 10:48

Yep Bakedspud you do. I have the nut dispenser one.

I don't have scales, just a measuring cup thing.

Do I need scales?

holidaymum · 08/11/2006 10:51

I'm sure you can use a cup, I think theres guides online for weight v cup comparisons?

bakedpotato · 08/11/2006 10:53

but in terms of nonfaffiness (and DH has expressed an interest in being in charge of the breadmaker so I want any hitches), would a scales make it easier?

bakedpotato · 08/11/2006 10:54

sorry, that should yhave said 'I don't want any hitches'

holidaymum · 08/11/2006 10:55

probebly, i put the tin on my scales and just pop it all in as i go!

I bought one last Christmas, and don't use it every day, but still much more than any other appliance.

Major plus point for me is being able to control the amount of salt in our food, and making bread with extras in it which is very expensive to buy, and not as nice.

Mine is Morphy Richards, and I use the timer to have bread ready in the mornings

we have had a panasonic one for years (actually we are on our second - the non-stick-ness (is that a word ?) on the pan gave up and a new machine was almost as cheap as a new pan ).

We never buy shop bread now - it tastes really salty.

The advantages - it is cheaper, and healthier, and for lots the smell of baking bread is a bonus. It is easy to use (much less faff than a food processor), and you can make great pizza dough - bung it in, wait 45 mins, roll out, top and cook - yum

bakedpotato · 08/11/2006 11:13

(ludaloo, yes, he's quite keen to be in charge of breadmaking. It's a bit of kit, innit.)

My Panasonic 253 arrived yesterday, bought from ebay for 70.99 including p&p. I bought it after the recommendations from here.

Am going to buy some strong flour today (see new thread) and bake bread, so Ludaloo, I will let you know how it turns out.

I am paying 1.20 every other day for a bloomer from our local bakery and heard so much about this particular one on here so went for it.

scotlou · 08/11/2006 11:53

I've got one too - a Breville one that I think is more or less indentical to the Panasonic but at the time we bought it was cheaper. It's great - I use it a lot during the winter so I can come home to homemade soup / stew in the slow cooker and fresh bread in teh breadmaker.

Dead easy to use as you just throw in the ingredients and leave it to it. The timer option is fantastic.

You CANNOT make dough in a food processor - at least you can MIX it in the processor - but the breadmaker does all the kneeding and proving bit too.

SUSIntoSpaceandback · 08/11/2006 12:14

i've got one too - a hinari one! was not too happy in the beginning with it (that's why it ended up in the cupboards for quite some time ) - but i've got it out 3 months now and it's actually fab!!! had to fiddle with the recipes a bit but for instant yesterday i made really yummy breadrolls!!!! (with seeded flour so double yummy) - even kids like it!
and it's dead easy!
pop the thingy on the scales, pour in accordingly to recipe, put it in the machine, chose program - bang ... 3 hours later - luuuurly fresh bread!
and pizza dough is just brilliant!

stringbean · 08/11/2006 13:55

We've had a Panasonic for four years, and I could count on the fingers of one hand the number of loaves I've bought since then. I'm not sure the bread works out that much cheaper (we eat a granary/white combination) but tastes so much nicer than shop-bought. If it broke tomorrow, I'd have to go out and buy another one straightaway; other than the dishwasher, it's the kitchen gadget that gets used more than any other in our house.

ludaloo · 08/11/2006 14:15

Thank you to everyone who has posted! UCM You'll have to let me know how it turns out!
I think I'll have to save and get one anyway...whether I get one for xmas or not! Dh will just have to agree to disagree I think!!

The instructions look very very complex . I think it would be easier if I just ask on here.

HOW DO I MAKE A WHITE LOAF girls, in my Panasonic 253. Can I just have a foolproof recipe from one of you who have already read the book please.

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 08/11/2006 16:24

um

follow the instructions in the book UGM!

I don't recall them as being especially complex?

Remember you can use milk in place of milk powder and water.

Hmmm

post more of your difficulties and we panasonic SD whores will help

I have got a marks one, which I have actually been very happy with, but all this talk of lovely new gleaming panasonics is tempting me to get a new one, as my one is old and a bit knackered now, but it still works, so can't quite justify it, oh bugger
