can you make wholemeal loaves with it, overrun? With pumpkinseed?

Such things are very healthy and if not you really must buy a panasomic as soon as possible.

Greensleeves · 08/11/2006 19:40

I make really good dense granary loaves in mine, with pumpkin, sunflower, linseed and poppy seeds. I love my breadmaker

kid · 08/11/2006 19:41

I have a breadmaker. It has been in my cupboard for the past 2 1/2 years!

Overrun · 08/11/2006 21:47

filly, I can make wholemeal loaves, but cos I don't have an automatic seed dispenser I often miss the beep, so I am still wavaring.
I use mine a lot, but don't have a big kitchen so end up having to put mine up on top of the cupboard when not in use, as it takes up too much valuable counter space.
Oh for a kitchen that would comfortably house a bread maker

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 09/11/2006 08:56

hmmm

nuts and seeds are very very good for you...

(i have to say though I just bung them in at he start, makes no odds at all AFAIL-dp does it all Properly)

sorry, not much help

FillyjonkTheFireEater · 09/11/2006 08:57

I know! If we ever both make it to a welsh meet I shall bring bread and you can do likewise and we can compare.

Panasonic SD253 Breadmaker with Nut Dispenser

Great price from amazon

Fantastic
I use it every other day and both my children love it. Aged 2 and 5. The timer is easy to use so you can have fresh bread ready when you wake in the morning.
Their fav receipe is -
1/2 tsp dried yeast
200g white bread flour
150g wholemeal bread flour
50g granary bread flour
30ml water
15g butter 1
tablesp dried milk powder
1 table sp sugar
1 teasp salt
this is for the small loaf - 5 hous wholemeal setting.

There are loads of other variations you can do though.

Well worth the money. Much cheaper than buying bread and much nicer too. No added preservatives etc.

Bought Morphy Richards fast bake for dp's birthday over a year ago, and use it twice a week. Only time i bought shop bread was for dd's birthday as was not sure how our wholemeal seeded bread would go down with 4 year olds. Our breadmaker advises against using timer for wholemeal bread, but is great for white. We have a small kichen but the bread maker lives on the counter as it gets used so often. Our dd loves banana bread made in it; and the pizza you get from the home made dough is fantastic.

ProfYaffle · 09/11/2006 10:43

Oh I love my breadmaker. I actually have to restrict how often i use it though as I'm prone to endlessly stuffing my face with fresh, warm, buttery bread all afternoon. Mmmmm.....

Shirlz2003 · 09/11/2006 18:14

I'm another SD253 owner - and I love it... I use it to make all kinds of bread, the dough setting is really cool and as for the pizza... naan bread... pitta bread settings.. it's unbeatable.

You can even use it to make jam and cakes if you want.

Read Not On the Label for a good reason NOT to buy supermarket bread... I won't touch the stuff now.

love my bread maker.

i'm on my second and i definately won't be buying the next one with a seed/nut dispenser. it is ackward to clean and broke after one year of use (its now three years old).

i wore out my first one in two years (for the first 6mths it was used about 3-4 times a day - i converted my flatmate so he used it too). the bread is fresher and healther.

i'm lactose intolerant so shopbough bread can make me ill. using the milk powder is not necessary and is only adding crap that you don't need to the mixture.

one of the great bits is the bread is as good quality as you like it. Asda smart price flour will make a great loaf and so will allinson/carr's etc.

pizza is also soo heavenly that you will be converted. you also don't need scales as my second one (Morphy Richards) had all the recipy's measurements in cups. my uncle even does his by eye without weighting anything.

i don't think i'd last a day when this one eventually dies.

BonyM · 09/11/2006 20:33

I also have a Panasonic 252 (bought after reading Hunker's thread about what's in shop-bought bread!).

I've not bought a loaf since. It is absolutely wonderful - takes about 5mins to put all the ingredients together and the same to clean the pan afterwards.

I've also made pizza dough and dh and dd1 made dougnut dough last weekend!

Mum and Dad now want one and we are going to buy them one for Christmas!

estobi1 · 09/11/2006 20:58

I have one - I have used it once and I threw away the bread - it was disgusting and took a lot of effort. I am sure if I invested more time I could get it right but with Sainsburys so close and a toddler I can't be bothered. Plus I think I would put on a stone or two if my house smelled of fresh bread all of the time!

UCM · 09/11/2006 20:58

Ok, DH made the first loaf. He got a bit annoyed with trying to make the control panel make a smaller loaf, gave up and put enough ingredients in for an XL one, didn't alter anything else and it took 4 hrs. he waited & waited and kept on about how many minutes, hadn't tasted warm bread for eons etc. It finished about 20 minutes ago and after finally stopping myself eating anymore delicious, gorgeous bread smothered with butter, asking DH if he had finished coming with butter drooling all down his chin , have decided.

ITS BLOODY BRILLIANT. LUDALOO you HAVE to get one. I will not buy bread again from my bakery.

Few questions for you Pan-Tarts, can you cook bread quicker than 4 hrs or is that the basic thingy?

I DID read that bloody manual and followed the instructions but couldn't get it to change the panel.

MumtoAnne · 09/11/2006 23:01

are they ok to clean? i seem to remember my mum's one having baked bread stuck to it?

if its not too hard, im sold too!

UCM · 10/11/2006 07:45

I simply wiped the bread part with a piece of kitchen towel . It's brill. Problem is that I have put the breadknife in the dishwasher so we are waiting for toast.

UCM - you can do a rapid bake in the Panasonic, 1hr 55mins for white. Just add an extra 1/2 tsp of yeast.

fubsy · 10/11/2006 19:46

Ive got the Panasonic 252 (from Amazon) and it makes the best bread. We had a Hinari but it only made square loaves that lasted a day, these last 2 and the quality is more consistent. The repid bake white loaf is just as good as the 4 hour one. Last loaf I made was spelt!

Hope you get one - hope you like it!

Kittypickle · 10/11/2006 19:51

Oh for goodness sake, can't someone post and say they hate their Panasonic, that they are a waste of money and the bread tastes vile ? I am going to weaken soon, I can tell. I've resisted now for 2 days but don't think I shall hold out much longer.

fubsy · 10/11/2006 19:53

No

Kittypickle · 10/11/2006 19:55

OK, I give in. I'm going to find one of those useful bits of plastic, DH's ideally

hamstermunker · 10/11/2006 19:59

All this talk of milk powder is mad, IMO.

I make large loaves and I use:

1.5 tsps yeast
500g white flour
1 tsp salt
1oz butter
350ml water

This is on the rapid white prog which takes 1 hour 55 mins. I often use 100g brown flour and 400g white instead, on the same prog.

I will experiment more soon

MadameButterfly · 10/11/2006 20:14

My breadmaker is 6 years old now and only makes 1 size of loaf.

DP has said that we should get a new one, so may suggest the panasonic 252 as everyone on here seems to LOVE theirs.
