Hiya - Is there a 7 seater that when you have it in 5 seater mode, you can have a parcel shelf and a big boot?

Hi - I have a Toyota Avensis Verso seven seater. Doesn't have a parcel shelf but has plenty of room in the boot with five seats in.

We have a 7 seater VW Touran, and when it's a 5 seater it has a parcel shelf (it's one you pull across but is pretty tough) and an enormous boot. Boot space is very limited when all 7 seats are in though.

Zafira does

MrsApronstrings · 08/08/2006 19:20

not the chrysler voyager/grand voyager

aaronsmummy · 08/08/2006 19:21

we used to havc a vw sharan and that didn't either

Volvo V70 does. The extra two seats are only really suitable for children, though. But the boot is the size of Manchester when in 5-seater mode. And if you want to turn it into a builder's van, you can put the normal back seats down too. At which point the boot is bigger than most people's flats.

i love my touran
after 2 years of having no car and feeling all smug and ecofriendly I had to get one for work, school drop off & camping, and it is the best designed car I have ever come across. There is acres of space. You can tip up the second row of seats to make it a 2 seater with a humungous boot, or as WWW says, a 5 seater with an enormous boot. Even as a 7 seater there is more than a whisker of boot, definitely more than a Zafira. But they are more pricey than the Zafira.

I have a toyota corolla verso which has a tough pull-over boot cover (good enough to put things on top) and a big boot. and it's a bit of a tardis - great for parking and travelling.

frogs · 08/08/2006 19:58

The people I know who need a serious 7/8-seater (because they have 4 or more children) have either the big Toyota (?Emina) or the Chrysler Grand Voyager.

surroundedbyboys · 08/08/2006 20:46

we've got the new ford s max (out last month i think) and we love it. can do this. plus very good write up from ol' clarkson.

Mercedes estate (can't remember full model no etc). You have the option of 2 extra seats in the back or a big boot, no parcel shelf but a handy hidey-hole behind the ordinary back seats. If you put the back seats down too its huge, I got a single bed in there the other day without my knees up my nose!

muma3 · 08/08/2006 21:17

we also love our touran!

aaronsmummy · 09/08/2006 08:48

seen a zafira in 7 seat mode but there is no legroom - is this right or was it set up wrong?

we also have the toyota verso and it's brill. Looks smaller than it is and fits loads in it. Room for a pram and a weeks shopping in 5 seater mode and room for a pram in 7 seater mode.

Easy to driver and park and very comfortable. Like others said, it does have a boot cover so you can hid stuff in the boot. We have tinted windows so don't use the cover as he windows are hard to see through anyway. HTH. Good luck in your search.

BTW we recently looked at the smax. Its the double of the verso but with more fancy extras and it is slightly bigger. Both are nice looking as well.

Bumblelion · 09/08/2006 12:28

I have a Renault Grand Scenic which is basically a 5 seater but with the two extra seats in the back. Even with the two extra seats up I can still fit in enough bags/equipment for a day out with myself and 6 children.

One thing I would check when looking at any of these cars is how easy it is to maneouvre the seats in and out. Some cars I looked at were not that easy to mantle and dismantle.

Mine is very easy.

elastamum · 09/08/2006 12:49

Volvo XC 90. Has 7 good seats and a massive boot when you are only using 5. I can get 3 bikes in the back

muma3 · 09/08/2006 12:58

zafira has loads of leg room that can be adjusted . middle seats can be repositioned back and forth to give more or less , i pressume they had them pushed to front to show how much room you have in boot

heavenis · 09/08/2006 13:10

We have Toyota Previa will seat 8 (including the driver) Or 5 if you want the back seats up for a really, really large boot. No parcel shelf, ours has privicy glass, and some have curtains.

Gobblunarcharsky · 09/08/2006 13:16

Can't beat teh Grand Voyager - It has a parcel shelf but when you have the back seats out I don't think it covers the whole space, but I've never done it. It has blacked out windows though so you can't really see in anyway

Gobblunarcharsky · 09/08/2006 13:19

Agree about how easy it is to move seats. However, with a Grand Voyager you don't need to move the seats because the boot is big enough anyway - that's the beauty of it. It's 7 permanent seats really rather just having 2 occasional extras.

It depends what you need extra seats for and what your priorities are though so only you can decide.

shhhh · 09/08/2006 15:59

and what your budget is..!! GV lovely but much more than your citroen's/ford/renault etc....

spub · 09/08/2006 16:30

Another vote for the Grand Scenic.
