i have to admit it - i hate my expensive retro-looking leather sofas. they're uncomfortable and have no give in them. i want to slob out on a huge comfy monster of a sofa without sliding off or sticking to it (yuk) so i'm going to sell the ones i've got and have spotted the nicest ones i've seen in argos! anyone bought one from there? are they ok - quality-wise?

We got a sofa from Argos about 4 years ago, it only lasted 8 months Sad We have bought leather settees since and would never go back to material again, they get stained too easily.

MamaG · 17/06/2006 21:07

NOOOOOOOOOOO!!

I have had 3 different leather sofas from Argos -

the first one had a wonky leg (all legs were rubbish) - went back

the second one ALSO had a wonky leg (different model) - went back

the third one had "fixed" seat cushions so when you sat on them, the stitches strained against the leather - went back!

Awful awful, please please don't buy a sofa from them!

:)

Don't know about argos but my friend has just bought a lovely comfy one from ikea and I want to swap my ridiculously expensive laura ashley one for it.

rosebea · 17/06/2006 21:09

my friend just bought two sofa's from argos, she paid extra for some quick delivery thing, should have been 7 days...........1 1/2 months later, she's still sat on beanbags!

Pernod · 17/06/2006 21:24

No, they stain like mad even when drop tiny drop of water on them! Don't go there, wish I'd had that advice 2 years ago!!

\link{http://www.mfi.co.uk/mfi/ProductList.asp?CT=Sofas&CT=/7020/LoungeandDining/Sofas/Leather\MFI/Sofa Workshop} v cheap atm because MFI are stopping doing them.

JanH · 17/06/2006 21:29

And you can go to a store and sit on them before you buy one!

faeriemum · 17/06/2006 21:32

well im abit worried about this thread now.....my argos sofa arrived last monday...and is absolutly gorgeous, so soft and comfortable....it probably will get abit messy with it being cream coloured...but all covers are removable......im really loving it at the moment..i cant understand how a sofa can only last 8 months tbh.
i hate leather will never have a leather sofa...yuk....anywho...here's my sofa suite: \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6352666/Trail/C%24cip%3D36030.Furniture%3EC%24cip%3D36145.Sofas%2Band%2Bchairs%3EC%24cip%3D36152.Fabric%2Bsofa%2Bsuites.htm\Lisbon - cream}

faeriemum - our one was a similar design to your one. It lasted 8 months until it collapsed. I wouldn't buy a settee on legs like that again. I could understand it breaking if we were huge or we had kids jumping on and off it but that wasn't the case. It also had removable covers but its really hard getting the covers back on after you have washed them!

fairydust · 17/06/2006 21:38

we have a leather sofa and leather recliner chair from there in cream leather it's been perfect so comfy no problems with legs or stiching or anything.

Moomin · 17/06/2006 22:42

oh dear. not exactly a vote of confidence then! \link{http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?storeId=10001&langId=-1&catalogId=4501&productId=211800\This} is what i had on mind but can't find anything similar anywhere. was also fancying the big fat chair to go with it (look at bottom of page) Anything like it in Ikea? have looked on website but no joy. i know they have more in store. anyone know of any similar sofas?

Ive got a argos sofa. Its ok.Had it about 6mths now.Its got removable, washable covers but it is a bit tricky to get them back on and 1 of the zips from a cushion came off!I got mine because it was cheap and didnt think i had any other options.

spacecadet · 17/06/2006 22:51

ive got 2 leather sofas from argos, bought them in october, and they are crap..sorry to say it, but the sofa we sit on most has sagged horribley, i can feel the underneath sticking through, will keep it till it gets unbearable then will have no choice but to replace, will never get another from there.

Blossomhill · 17/06/2006 22:55

have 2 chocolate leather sofas and they are great. had them for a year and so comfortable.

faeriemum · 18/06/2006 07:32

moomin, i ordered that Megan sofa and large love seat from argos.....was absolutly heartbroken when they had to send it back because they couldnt get it through the hall.....believe me when i say it is HUGEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE absolutly MASSIVE ...but they were amazing....really really squishy!

so after some tears i had to settle for Lisbon suite.

jessicaandrebeccasmummy · 18/06/2006 07:36

ive got argos sofas and love them

they are cream coloured too which in hindsight was a mistake with 2 kids under 2 but a steam cleaner works wonders!

if you like it go for it i say... ive had mine 18 months now and still look like new once i have steam cleaned them - which reminds me, must get my steam cleaner back off my dad!!!

littlerach · 18/06/2006 07:41

Put the covers back on when they are v slightly damp.

Have you tried DFS?

Moomin · 18/06/2006 10:15

my current sofas are from dfs so i spose it wouldn't be like i'd be missing the money going out as i'm still paying them off (just got 4 months to go). i should go and have a look really. just saw the megan sofas in argos and loved the look of them. it's no good if they fall apart in a couple of years though. it'd only cost about £300 more for a dfs one and they're better quality.

lol at thinking of dh's face if i get one with lots of cushions - he HATES all the cushions we've got at the moment and throws them on the floor as if they're attacking him!

starshaker · 18/06/2006 10:21

faeriemum we have the same but in chocolate. when we got them i loved them they were so comfy. now 1 year later and i hate them they have sunk in and are so uncomfy. i want to buy a new sofa but dp says no chance cos we only had them a wee while. wish i had spent more and got better quality

Chandra · 18/06/2006 10:29

Moomin, there is one very similar in IKEA although not exactly comfy, it looks wonderful... wonderfuly huge. It's IKEA biggest sofa. They don't have it on the website unfortunately. There is also one called Tylosand, it is unbelievable comfy (it feels like a hug IYKWIM) but considering how soft it is I have my concerns about the foam collapsing in no time.

Moomin · 18/06/2006 10:35

yes that's the problem - i can imagine my arse actually touching the floor on a sofa like that after a year or so chez moomin.

think i will go the dfs route. the leather jobbies i got from there were very upright and i though they would give after a while and be more comfy but dd1 still sits on them and looks like tommy tit on a haystack. i want a happy medium!

Sofa workshop and habitat are also good places to look for one.

JanH · 18/06/2006 13:14

\link{http://www.mfi.co.uk/mfi/ProductList.asp?CT=Sofas&CT=/7020/LoungeandDining/Sofas/Leather\MFI are Sofa Workshop} and are discontinuing.

faeriemum · 18/06/2006 17:15

luckily my sofa is rarely sat on...and there's only me and my ds...and we're not very heavy...so hey they might last longer then a year!
