End of year teacher gifts

There was a thread ages ago (maybe even a couple of years ago) about end of year presents for teachers.

I can't find it but would welcome suggestions from other parents or teachers about what they like receiving, otherwise it's going to be that ubiquitous box of chocolates (green and black's of course! Wink)

I remember that thread and I had the impression that wine was top of the list. The problem with chocolates is that there are only so many chocolates the teacher can eat without becoming very ill. smellies tend to be put into fete raffles as they can't all be used. I also think that personally created gifts from the kids went down well but I didn't understand that one

I've just realised that i'm implying that teachers drink alot, but I suppose they can keep it longer....

At my dd's nursery school for christmas about 30 of us clubbed together and got Next vouchers for the teachers and the two assistants. We all put a 5er in. The teacher had £70 and the 2 assistants £40 each if I recall correctly. They were so chuffed, they loved showing the children the clothes and earings they had bought with them. Some people didnt want to put in so they ended up with homemade stuff/chocs/wine/flowers etc too.

More wine? Grin My mother was very keen on the alcohol-donating parents (except the bloke whose DS accidentally wrapped a bottle of Southern Comfort instead of wine, who had the nerve to phone her a couple of days later and ask for it back).

I would say wine or if all else fails something really horrible and cheesy so they can win the who got the most horrible present competition in the staffroom at the end of the day! Nothing beats the soap wrapped decoratively with ribbon that I saw many many moons ago. Although unfotunatley it was not mine Sad

Not wine perhaps at OTT religious schools? The nice teacher'll get decent chocs and flowers, the crap one'll get sod all and perhaps a complaint.

I hand make a card to go with it.

My mother always loved the Christmas tree decorations that she received - either handmade at home, eg. crosstitch (sp?) or nice bought ones that look homemade! Or homemade muffins, mince pies, etc. in a Christmas tin or basket. Great fun to get the kids to help with the baking and decorating!

I did the xmas pressie thing at Xmas with a nice packet of stroopwaffels from the Christmas market.

Perhaps should do wine for end of year as it seems to be most popular choice!

mind you, made her a weddingc ard at Easter- tags, quilled wedding dress, embosed love poem stamp...... I was really pleased with it.... she asked Sam if he made it.

Maybe I won't bother for her?

I agree - thoughtful, individual stuff or wine. (I did work in a church school btw - colleagues were probably the biggest drinkers I know!) DH (also a teacher) always gets fantastic gifts. I'm sure he writes a list on the board and gets the kids to copy it down! Particular favourites of his have been lager (especially those big bottles you can get), mini-aftershave selection (he wears this to work so he can save his more expensive stuff for home) and anything football/ man utd related!

I like wine, or a book token or a boots token... I do not like (shall sound really ungrateful) tacky ornaments that go straight to Oxfam - would also love a charity donation on my behalf...also love cards, photos, stories from the children.

BTW I am a teacher!

I would always prefer a book for the classroom but sonmething like this would be a nice treat.

Here's a thought ladies.
We have a teacher who covers PPA tim eat our school so basically she teaches all the pupils (infant school) but is not anyone's teacher.
The children luuuurve her (she is fab) and DS1 and DD reminded me at Christmas that e ought to get hr something.
I hastily (it was last week of term) wrapped a box of fancy biscuits or similar and she sent thank-you cards to both kids. I think it was the only present she got Sad
So what I'm saying is, you might like to remember the TA and the Senco maybe (cat64!) and anyone else who has been a big help.
DS1 is leaving this yr (sniff) so I guess we'll have to give many many gifts.

I agree Clary - at our school we had Family and Children's Liaison Officers who were always really touched to receive a gift.
