Probably been done to death but... new hoover

I know this has probably been done before but our dyson is not picking up very well anymore (so much for eternal suction!!) so just wondered if anybody had a recommendation for a great/better replacement.

miele cat and dog is fab.

(we have neither a cat or a dog, but love it all the same!)

bronnie- have you checked whether your filter needs washing or replacing? We've had our DC08 animal for three years (I think) and I only recently realised that the filter needs to be washed! When I had done that it made a HUGE difference!

Sebo are brilliant as well, not cheap mind but brilliant.

Bronniemuldoon were in the same boat with a dyson that has lost its will to suction and on a hunt for a new hoover...so will watch with inerest

miele for me

Miele Cat & Dog for me (also have neither pet) - the turbo attachment head is wicked.

anyone with a miele cat/dog got a dog and how good are they?

bosch ergomaxx, great on floors and carpets.

the cleaners in dh's office and mine said a Henry, and they use them all the time... I love mine (and it smiles at me!) I have one with a special allergy filter because of dh's asthma (mind you I don't vac enough for it to make any difference!)

Err no Tissy I haven't washed the filter . Will be going home and doing that tonight to see if it makes a difference. It still has really strong suction on the nozzle attachment but it's the stand-up main bit that's rubbish. I think I'm going to have a google of the miele cat and dog and the Sebo as they both seem to have people's votes.

Our old Miele seems to have died a quick and painless death, went to Argos today and thought I would save a few pennies and get a cheaper brand (not the very cheapest).

Moral cheap as chips = crap. I am taking it back tomorrow, it is a flimsy pile of plastic rubbish, the cord winds itself back into the machine while vacuuming so you end up with a 2 foot cord and the metal pipe is a foot smaller than the Miele, so it's child size, giving me backache.

A miele Cat and Dog sounds like a good recommendation, then? !

If the cord winds itself back it's faulty - the first Miele I had did that, surprisingly. So you could try another of your cheap one first just to check if it does it too?

(Mine is the non-cat and dog miele and is f*cking fantastic, it has to be said. But one of Which's cheaper best buys last test was a Bosch - want a model number?)

Don't know if bronniemuldoon (and screwballmuppet) have done anything about their non-sucking Dysons but my upright (purple and red, don't know the number) did that too and when I eventually got the man out he replaced most of it including the motor - mine is about 3 years old and he said there was a design fault.

Cat and Dog Miele - oooh, pricey isn't it!

bronniemuldoon - some of the upright style dysons have a rubber band thingy that turns the brush at the bottom - it's prone to breaking, and then it works ok through the hose but not through when upright.
We had our dyson serviced about a year ago (arranged via the website I seem to remember) - wasn't too expensive (lot less than a new hoover), and the lovely engineer replaced loads of bits (our dyson was about 6 years old and been used to clean up after building work round the house), including the rubber band, (all for the cost of the service!) and it's been great ever since.
