So... do the Welsh not share, or the English not like em???

Welsh DH, living in Bournemouth... Every few months I might come across a supermarket selling Welsh butter - but they pretty much all sell Irish and Somerset. You can't buy Welsh cakes anywhere here, yet you can get all kind of American style cakey things. Its not like you need a little cake shop to get em in Wales - Tescos sell em, so surely they could ship a few through the rest of the UK???

Its sad, we haven't got much money right now, so his valentine's present was butter .

Soooo... why is it?? Are the Welsh just very possesive over their butter and cakes, or do shops think there is no market for it in non-Wales???

And Ma'i gen'i dipyn o ty bach twt

Anyone come across the Caneuon Twf CD for teaching small children some Welsh songs and expressions? it's really lovely - it's free and I think you can get it from the Welsh language board site - will look it up if anyone's intersted.

moondog · 18/02/2006 21:13

Yes Welshmum.
One of the key women involved,Elizabeth Woodcock is lovely.English, but now speaks Welsh fluently and speaks it with her four children.
She is famed in North Wales for her occasional appearences as Smot ('Spot') the dog!

Moondog! Remember this was supposed to be a nice thread!

I was determined not to say another word here but I came on to show dh the link SS provided for St Fagans which we are thinking of going to today for ds3's birthday. I am not sure I want to contribute to Wales' economy now.

moondog · 19/02/2006 09:50

Suit yourself LM.
I make no apologies for giving such an ill mannered idiot the admonishment she desrves.

Blandmum · 19/02/2006 09:52

fair doos, Moondog, she did appologise. I think everyone is allowed to madke a prat of themselves on occasion on MN....I know I have in the past

Lonelymum · 19/02/2006 09:54

You are being unreasonable MD.

IvortheEngine · 19/02/2006 10:26

If I understand you correctly, LM, you said "I am not sure I want to contribute to Wales' economy now" in response to moondog's comments. Do you think that is reasonable? To deny your family a nice day out at SF and take your custom elsewhere just because you disagree with one Welsh person's comments?

kbaby · 19/02/2006 11:09

JonesTheSteam Yes I was born there and still live there.
Its a lovely place to live.

Pixiefish · 19/02/2006 11:19

There is a saying in Welsh- 'hawl i bob dyn ei farn ac i bob barn ei lafar' moondog is exercising that right- to 'express her opinion' as hockeymum did when she started all this. if you look at her apology though it does have a BUT in it.

Blandmum · 19/02/2006 11:22

ah, 'but me no buts'

Pixiefish · 19/02/2006 11:23

lol

JonesTheSteam · 19/02/2006 11:26

kbaby - I think it's fab as well!!!

Wonder if we went to the same schools? I went to Twyn and St. Martin's? What about you (unless you would prefer to remain 'anonymous', just in case!!!!!)

Lonelymum · 19/02/2006 11:31

Ivor the Engine, the way I see it is the Welsh are pretty temperamental (yes, sweeping, bigoted statement alert) but then, so am I as I am Cornish so probably of the same Celtic stock as yourselves.

I just feel a bit narked off by MD's comments and, strange as it might seem to you, it has left a rather sour taste in my mouth today so I don't much feel like going and appreciating Welsh culture today. However, fear not, dh and I have come up with a better idea and we are going to visit a fine example of English imperialism in our beautiful principality! (I won't say where in case you descend on us en masse armed with longbows.)

Blandmum · 19/02/2006 11:37

Have longbow, can travel

I can come up on your eastern flank and surprise you

Lonelymum · 19/02/2006 11:39

How many troops do you have? I have a small army!

have just asked ds3 if he wants to conquer some Welsh and he said yes!
