I need some new and lovely make-up.

Today i bought the Benefit benetint which is a stain for cheeks and lips. Good purchase - ??????????????????????

I need:

  • a concealer for under my eyes
  • new blusher
  • new blusher brush
  • mascara

what would you reccomend and what can't you live without in your make-up bag?

pah, it's brilliant stuff. Depends if you like foundation (which I hate) in which case tinted m might seem a bit light I guess.

JackieNo · 05/02/2006 13:47

Bought myself some of the Chanel Vitalumiere foundation yesterday (as recommended by Cod) and she's right - it's fab. I see what she means about the whole skin looking like Kylie's thing, too. If Kylie doubled her bodyweight and wore glasses, she'd look like I do now wearing it.

WideWebWitch · 05/02/2006 14:02

I agree with vitalumiere, brilliant stuff, as if Touche Eclat and Chanel cil et cils mascara and I really like a nude No 7 lipstick that was free with Eve mag about 5 months ago, I've been wearinf it ever since. I might try Beauty flash balm now having read Marina's glowing endorsement.

nitfreecod · 05/02/2006 14:04

oh great jackie i am pleased!

Beetroot · 05/02/2006 14:10

great great brush from Mac. Bought it yesterday. called a scribbler or something. Black hairs with longer white hairs. Use to put on fabulous creamy mac blusher and foundation and I use it to put on moisturisers first.

Mac Mac Mac..they will ususally give yu a demo.

soapbox · 05/02/2006 14:21

MIne must have is a models prefer eyebrow pencil and shaper.

For some reason I never look great if my eyebrows are not done! Allegedly they thin out a bit as you get older meaning you have to define them a bit more! So I guess I am firmly in the 'older' camp now on that basis!

fairyglo · 05/02/2006 14:59

but do you have to have tinted moisteriser under foundation or can you use it by itself and will it do what I want and even out my complexion? come on, explain and share ladies please.

Nbg · 05/02/2006 15:05

Oooh I'm jealous Jackie.

Which one did you get?

Which one have you got Cod?

JackieNo · 05/02/2006 15:09

NBG - I got the fluid, rather than the cream (felt too heavy for me) or the compact (ditto). And in the lightest shade, I think. It really is lovely. Keep having to sidle up to mirrors and admire myself . I'm applying it with my fingers, but putting this stuff from Clinique underneath to keep me glowy rather than greasy.

Nbg · 05/02/2006 15:12

Cool. I presume you get more in the fluid rather than compact?

I'm always a bit heavy handed with compacts and use too much.

Does the colour have a name or shade number? I couldn't quite work the colours out on Boots website. They didn't look right.
I will probably need the lightest shade as I'm quite pale.

JackieNo · 05/02/2006 15:14

You certainly don't need to use very much of the fluid, it seems to go a long way. I've got shade 10, called 'Limpide'.

Nbg · 05/02/2006 15:17

I've made a note of that.

Have you tried a blusher over the top yet?

Enid · 05/02/2006 15:19

I have the benetint gloss it is lovely but lasts 2 minutes

I love laura mercier tinted moisturiser with a bit of foundation on the bad bits

Eve voted a YSL mascara as the absolute business and I am going to buy one next week

JackieNo · 05/02/2006 15:19

No, I don't really do blusher - tend to flush quite easily, so don't bother. I think the one I have has been around since I was a teenager (I'm now 40). So maybe it's time to buy a new one. Like the sound of the Benefit Dandelion one several people on here have mentioned. Might give that a go.

nitfreecod · 05/02/2006 16:07

arf at limpide

i got beige it hink
neither very excitign soudning!

Nbg · 05/02/2006 16:13

'm having my hair re-styled and coloured on Tues and I really want that foundation now!!!

Lovely hair and flawless skin

hester · 05/02/2006 16:49

Tinted moisturiser (Stila or Laura Mercier), concealer (also vote for Skinflash - Touche Eclat gives me scabs - but No 7 do a great version), mascara (Rimmel Volume Flash - really pointless spending big money), sheer gel blush (much more flattering than powder - I like Stila or Ruby & Millie). For evenings I sometimes upgrade to Armani hydra glow foundation.

DiamondsAreForever · 05/02/2006 16:50

I love benefit cosmetics so much- I can't live without: kitten pouffes (for that 'feel like rubbish but look amazing' moments), ooh la lift (sice I had dd it's a miracle), high beam, jiffy tan and anything bathina. The best, however in this weather is Dr. Feelgood's Lipscription which has to be the best beauty buy in the world ever and renders your lips tres Jolie, as in Angelina. I should have shares in the company really!

katierocket · 05/02/2006 16:51

which YSL mascara was it Enid?

(am hopelss mascara addict)

I am such a make up junkie ever since I got married and spent a fortune to get the right stuff.
Although I don't get much opportunity to wear too much of it now as I'm always in such a rush!

I have combination skin which is prone to flaking in the colder months. I hate my skin in the winter and have experimented with many foundations over the years my faves are Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser and also the Clinique superbalance stuff which is amazing for great coverage (on a bad day!)

Other stuff I can't live without (though not all together)

Benefit Dr Feelgood - makes my skin feel really silky. Great if I don't want to wear any base and fab if you're feeling a little bit shiny
YSL - Touche eclat but I mix it with either the Benefit concealer or the Laura Mercier concelaer(shade3) to get a lovely colour and texture.
Benefit cheekies (lovely cream blush)
Benefit LemonAid - balances the redness on eyelids a treat
Lancome juicy tubes in Melon.
MAC bronzer - stops me looking ill.
MAC lip pencil in spice Rimmel* eyebrow pencil - dead cheap but better texture and colour that any others three times more expensive!
Stila dual colour eye pencil in Violet and one in Slate(these last for ever!
Lancome or Maybelline mascara (depends on if I'm treating myself)
Benefit Moonbeam, make my skin look dewey and smooth.
I have recently discovered Tesco MakeUp cosmetics and have been so surprised at the quality of the fabulous brushes. A big fat blush brush was £6 when previously I would have spent £30 on one. The make up is really fantastic too. I can see when I have the money next I'll be popping in there to replace stuff.

meggmoo · 05/02/2006 17:52

Oh and almost forgot to say Eve Lom cleanser to take all the gunk off after - although I am really spotty lately so either my pot of cleanser is oooooold or I am pregnant.

threelittlebabies · 05/02/2006 17:55

YSL touche eclat and oil free complexion enhancer
Body shop Vitamin E Illuminating Moisturiser
Benefit High Beam
Lancome Juicy tubes in Lychee and Pamplemousse
John Frieda Blonde Gleam Cream (to combat the frizz!)
Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream

Need new and really good blusher/eye stuff though

LOOBYLOU2 · 05/02/2006 18:29

like any good decorator - get the base coat right
Beauty Flash Balm!!!!!

expatinscotland · 05/02/2006 18:30

Am I the only one who found Juicy Tubes overrated?

I mean, it's a lip gloss!
