I need some new and lovely make-up.

Today i bought the Benefit benetint which is a stain for cheeks and lips. Good purchase - ??????????????????????

I need:

  • a concealer for under my eyes
  • new blusher
  • new blusher brush
  • mascara

what would you reccomend and what can't you live without in your make-up bag?

If you slapped it all over your midriff, would it tighten and brighten the appearance of baby-belly?

Thomcat · 03/02/2006 22:01

I don't do foundation. Am saving that for the next ten years. Just made he decision to start wearing makeup every day so..... QUESTION - will beauty flas balm work for me, a tired new mum, without using foundation?

Dr. Feelgood is the BEST. Evens out the skin, makes it smooth, stick a bit of Benefit dandelion over the top for a nice glow.

Elizabeth Arden 8 Hour Cream - kind of fancy vaseline but works as lipgloss/salve and seems to have some fantastic property whereby it headls any scatches, chaffed skins, dry/flaky conditions within hours. Its a miracles/all round handbag staple of a cream. Costs about 12 and lasts forever,

I spent 3 years going through duty free every weekend and have experimented with all make up brands available.

My vote goes for:

Touche Eclat (YSL)
Lancome (Juicy Tubes)
Benefit - every thing else

Dior - shiny flashy limited edition bling stuff

veuveclicquot · 04/02/2006 10:54

Oh god yes, and Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream and Eve Lom cleanser.

Best other stuff - Jo Malone and favourite soap Molton Brown.

Batters - Ulrika Johnsson has the most droopy boobs in showbiz. I once heard her slagging somebody off for having no boobs and was astounded that somebody with such huge south facing saggy norks had the gall to even go there.

TC - I don't wear foundation every day either. The secret is to buy a skin exfoliator and use it regularly (keeps your skin looking bright), then of course good day and night moisturisers and an under eye concealer (I use YSL).

I like the Benefit lip and cheek stain too, although it's a bit drying on my lips.

I love all MAC products, plus Nars (available in Space NK).

I have a glow enhancer from Body shop which is like a tinted moisturiser. I really like it.

Anyone know how long make up lasts? I have the Clarins Beauty balm but I have had it for years and rarely use it. Is it OK to use?

perfect skin stuff by champneys, makes skin look a bit more 'dewy' (in other words, not so much like a dried out old hag ), followed by intelligent colour foundation by boots, No7 i think. this stuff is amazing and so long as you rub in well, is impossible to apply badly and just looks like your own skin, only better.

mascara: naturally glossy, by clinique is the only one i find doesnt clump and look like mascara. expensive but lasts for ages

blusher: clinique again, a kind of dusky pink is my colour, brilliant, natural looking, expensive again, but lasts forever. i use the brush in the compact for the blusher, and a separate, big one for a light dusting of bronzing pearls from boots 17, the cheaper range; looks more natural than any other ive found.

and with all that crap on i look half human!

magicfarawaytree · 04/02/2006 14:36

Guerlain midnight secret - v. expensive about £50. But put it on the night before and it makes you look like you have had the best nights sleep of your life. Every time I have worn it people have commented. got it as a bday present so only use it sparingly.

puff · 04/02/2006 16:07

That's what I use at night magicfaraway - brill stuff - expensive but worth every penny, I buy other stuff to try but always go back to it!

expatinscotland · 04/02/2006 16:10

Laura Mercier Tinted Moisturiser and Secret Camougflage concealer, her undereye concealer, her blush stick in Blossom, her lipstick in Just Lips, Burt's Bees lip balm, a Shu Umera eyelash curler, MAC pressed powder and lip pencil in Spice, BodyShop blush brush, Bourjois blush in Sienna, and mascara.

Oh, and a bottle of either Chanel No. 5 or Coco.

Hope I'm not too late to join this thread with a query. Any advice which of these products would even out skin tone? Pregnancy seems to be making my complexion interestingly blotchy and I would like to even out the colour but still look "fresh and natural" . I would expect to wear only lip gloss and eye liner with this so wouldn't be looking for a particularly made up look. PS I need something that works for all skin tones, not just white. thanks.
