Why does my dd1 insist on buying My Little Ponies when she is too old for them and never plays with them?

She has £12 to spend on stuff this afternoon and I have promised to take her shopping. She is hopeless at choosing stuff and ALWAYS without fail chooses a My Little pony thing that she opens, arranges on her shelf, then never touches.

What can I steer her gently towards? She doesnt like dolls.

How old is she?

Enid · 30/01/2006 13:48

She is 6 btw and likes crafty things (although looked very unhappy at the idea of getting something crafty) and her tamagotchi.

Is it part of her younger childhood she doesn't want to leave ??? iyswim

lucy5 · 30/01/2006 13:51

What about Polly pocket, you can get some great stuff?

Enid · 30/01/2006 13:52

maybe

I wouldn't mind but she has started saying she is bored and hasn't anything to play with.

I thought maybe a computer game?? But she's a bit young I suppose.

My little girl got magnetix for Xmas and she loves them, she spends hours making things with them, it was her birthday Friday and she ended up buying some more to add to it.

Hulababy · 30/01/2006 13:52

How about instead of going to a toy shop, take her to a craft type shop? That way she is not tempted by the My Little Pony type thing.

Ooops - just reread your second post!

Why not brainstorm with her at home what she would really like to get and why?

crazydazy · 30/01/2006 13:53

my little girl isn't very keen on dolls either they just end up in a box, she loves drawing and making things most.

Enid · 30/01/2006 13:53

I have Hula

she wants a Puppy In My Pocket and a .....MY LITTLE BLEEDIN PONY

polly pocket is strictly dd2s territory
