IKEA - So if you have never been or you don't go... how do you get through life?

I mean, not all of its good. some of it is kack but surely life without ikea would be awful. Surely you need ikea to fill in some of those gaps around the home ie: that spare bedroom that you want to look nice but don't want to spend alot of money or the great kids room stuff for super cheap.

... not to mention the meatballs and new potatoes in the cafe.

And.... how can you have never been!!?

lots of people round here have never been, its a good hour and a half drive to both of our nearest 2 ikeas.

agree and am v.excited as we're having one built here so we won't need to go traipsing down the M6 in order to get our 'hit'.

our oven blew on Friday. we only wanted another cheap slot in one for under the hob but we couldn't find one anywhere where they stocked them and we could just go pick them up (everything has to be ordered these days. its really annoying). We eventually just went to Ikea and bought one off the shelf. no hassle and cheap.

feisty, i'm from rugby. the nottingham one is really easy to get to.. just straight up the M1 - 45 mins tops from Cov and the traffic isn't nearly as bad and it's not nearly as manic as the b'ham one.

I have never been, but still have some Ikea here that Misdee has picked up for me. I really want to go one day....

I'm totally p*ssed off with ikea and won't be going back. We ordered some wardrobes for home delivery and it took a total of 5 delivery days, countless phone calls and two broken doors before it was sorted. Nobody could tell us what was going on and they were totally useless. Kept promising to riung back and never did once. They won't do exchanges neither, so if you get something wrong and lose a receipt they wont do anything. we picked up the wrong box and lost a receipt in the middle of moving house and were stuck with it. I'll fill in my gaps from house of fraser instead.

kelly - yes, i must admit, i have a love/hate relationship with ikea. i've been messed around alot and there is not worse feeling than spending the day going around then hitting the warehouse and realising half your stuff if out of stock... but i just can't keep away and i've had good luck lately.

Would love to use ikea but there's not one for miiiiiiiiiles around!!

I've been once and, although we get the brochure and I often look longingly at the new furniture the thought of going again puts me right off! Wish they did mail order

I have never been. Have they got anything decent for Christmas? Should I make this week the week I go to Ikea?

their christmas decs are really nice. real simple cheap and different. like i said before, you wouldn't want to dec your whole tree in them but they 'fill a gap'.

Oh, I though I was the only person who ahd ever had a bad experience, Ikea seems to be so well loved. Their customer service is so bad though. I also wish they did mail order. No way I going back inside one!

oh no kelly, the place can be a nightmare sometimes. they even had an advertisement campaign on a few years ago stating so!

in the advert they basically said that they know it can be a nightmare but tough, that's why their stuff is cheap and if you want some cool stuff you're just going to have to rough it out!

My dh is seriously bothered that they're building one in Cov - it's always been the motorway trip that's put me off going too many times before!

do you do the nottingham thing as well Avalon?

Ikea makes me cry I hate it

OK there is the odd nice thing but it all falls apart before you get home, they never put the right bits in if you buy flat pack, their customer service is awful and you have to queue for 2 hours.

I understand that they are proposing a development by Hillingdon station in Uxbridge as well which will incorporate affordable housing, but I'd imagine that will be 08 or 09.'

i live 5 minutes away from the nottingham ikea. pretty much all our furniture is from there. DP hates ikea, but we can't afford much else.
