IKEA - So if you have never been or you don't go... how do you get through life?

I mean, not all of its good. some of it is kack but surely life without ikea would be awful. Surely you need ikea to fill in some of those gaps around the home ie: that spare bedroom that you want to look nice but don't want to spend alot of money or the great kids room stuff for super cheap.

... not to mention the meatballs and new potatoes in the cafe.

And.... how can you have never been!!?

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 22/11/2005 11:36

of course, there could possibly be more than one helen in Rugby.. but don't quote me on that.

spooky to think when I'm strolling round my local Ikea in nottingham I could bump into loads of mumsnetters!!

love hate relationship with Ikea personally - great prices, but what a hassle!!!

pussycatmomma · 22/11/2005 11:56

i'll be suspicious of the posh daddies in ikea now.......thinking which one is the REAL daddycool?! cant fault ikea myself, dh hates it though, so we dont go too often these days. Nottingham is our drug of choice as we only 30mins away. hiya rhuby thanks for your mail, i have replied today!

WigWamBam · 22/11/2005 12:06

Please tell me they're not really building one in Coventry? Please? Our nearest one is an hour or so away so I can usually manage to keep dh down to a couple of visits a year but he works in Coventry ... I'm never going to see him if they build an Ikea there!

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 22/11/2005 12:08

www - see the article link. nice big 7 story bad boy for your DH to get lost in.

Ive never been to Ikea. All our furniture comes from Emaeus or the local auction.
Still want to go to Ikea one day though.

WigWamBam · 22/11/2005 12:31

Ah, no ...

Oh well, at least if he can go and play in the Coventry store it will stop me from having to trawl around the Wednesbury one with him ...

foundintranslation · 22/11/2005 12:31

I'm a fan. All our furniture is either second hand or from there. I like their bits and bobs too - think they're really nicely designed. Their customer service is appalling though. When I was 7 months pg and not supposed to stand for long periods (dr reckoned cervix was effacing) we bought some stuff for the baby. Queued a while, then there was no code on the baby bath and instead of trying to sort it they sent dh back in to get another one and left me standing there.
Putting together the Ikea changing table arguably brought on my labour at 37+5!

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 22/11/2005 12:35

the stuff is def easier to put together now though.

i remember Ikea from back when i was about 7 (23 yrs ago). they had one i Toronto and much smaller than they are now (the toronto one also moved about 15 years ago and is now massive).

The air would be blue when dad was trying to put the stuff together. some of it was ridiculous. i had an ikea bunk bed and the thing was a health hazzard.

They also do roll-out gingerbread for making cookies etc! Can feel like a good Mummy without the hassle!

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 09:12

4:01 am. WTF? were you cooking them up then ready for the kids in the morning?

Bozza · 24/11/2005 09:15

She's in Budapest so its not 4.01 am.

elastamum · 24/11/2005 09:16

Cant stand the place, surly staff, endless lines for the checkout. Definately the first circle of retail hell. And you have to cart the stuff home and build it yourself!!

DaddyCoolNippingAtYourNose · 24/11/2005 11:15
