I would really like everyone to please check if their local Asda store is stocking this book " True Crime- Serial Killers"

I went shopping with DD yesterday , as usual she was looking to buy something for herself. I should have taken more notice of the book ( the title is a clue , I knowBlush However I was busy and she likened it to a book we have already called " Great Mysteries of the 20th Century " . I really regret that I did not - DD could not sleep and was really distressed . The book is horrible and goes into great detail and has photos/ pictures of bodies!

I have phoned Asda to complain, and made it clear that a) this book should not be stocked
at all/should not have been printed.
b/ it should definately not be in the children's section !

Asda promotes itself as a family friendly store , this is an extreme book , I don't think it should be sold anywhere.

They are going to speak to the book buyers and will monitor the level of complaints HmmPlease phone Asda head office on 0800 952 0101 if you see it.
thanks

I'm sorry but I really think that maybe you need to chill

its your fault that your daughter was upset, dont kick off cause you're feeling guilty

colette · 14/05/2011 14:38

details of mutiliation of children should not be stocked in a supermarket.

I'll campaign with you op. Should we also campaign to have The Crime and Justice/True Crime channels cancelled? Obviously all the true crime books need to go. And the CSI/Cold Case type shows are entirely inappropriate for a family friendly company like Sky to be showing. What if I leave my little princess in front of Nick Jr. and come back to find she is watching "Crimes That Shook The World" Shock or even worse The News.

We can't risk our children seeing them. I mean what do these companies expect us to do.... supervise our own children and make sure that what they are reading/watching is suitable for them??? It's shocking, I tell ye, shocking.

Ds1 was studying Jack the Ripper in History at school in Year 9 (age 13) with plenty of gory pictures and text. How will you deal with that?

Bucharest · 14/05/2011 14:38

...or purchased for them by their parents......

TheFlyingOnion · 14/05/2011 14:41

"It is not suitable for adults . My complaint to Asda was that they stocked it at all"

YABVU

If I want to read a story about serial killers, it is none of your business

It is not my fault that you have bought something inappropriate for your child.

Wafflepuss · 14/05/2011 14:41

OP who are you to dictate what is or isn't "suitable" for adults to read?? Most of us are more than capable of choosing for ourselves what we will or won't read without the Colette Censorship Crusade wading in telling us what should be banned from going to print. You are an idiot who bought an adult content book for a child and now need someone else to blame.

"details of mutiliation of children should not be stocked in a supermarket."

why not??

colette · 14/05/2011 14:42

That is true Tillytulip but does not mean that I think it is ok and won't challenge it.

It's a bit hard to take such a complaint seriously when you actually paid for the offending item.

colette it is up to you what you/your children read.

It's up to other adults what they want to read - it isn't your place to decide whether they can or not!

Wafflepuss · 14/05/2011 14:45

In fact, this post has pissed me off so much I am going to call ASDA on Monday and say how great I think the book is and how delighted I am that ASDA stocks it.

MumblingRagDoll · 14/05/2011 14:46

You've basically been exposed to something which you would not usually choose to....but you cannot say the store is unreasonable for stocking it. I is a shame your DD had nghtmares but this is life...

MumblingRagDoll · 14/05/2011 14:47

As Tilly says there are hideous films and photo's available 24 hours a day on your computer....not to mention computer games. Asda stocking a book on murder is not that bad. Also tonnes of true murder shows on Sky all the time.

ohnoshedittant · 14/05/2011 14:50

It really doesn't sound that bad!

I'm more disturbed about my local Asda stocking about 50 different books with titles along the lines of 'Daddy, stop touching me', 'Mummy's gone and Daddy's touching me', Make it stop Mummy' and so on and so on.

Even with those though the title is the key to what it's about and the blurb will give you a further clue. Don't want to read it then don't.

You didn't ask but YABVVU

colette · 14/05/2011 14:50

I know that crime books are stocked in supermarkets and I am not looking to change that.I have also said many times that I made an error in allowing her to buy this book.
However it is this particular book I object to. It gives details of rape, torture and mutilation of children

OP posts:
RitaMorgan · 14/05/2011 14:50

Look colette, you made a mistake - it happens. I totally understand the desire to make it someone elses fault but it isn't. Just let it go.

DooinMeCleanin · 14/05/2011 14:51

So do all the News channels Collette.
