As my tans slowly fades i will be thinking foundation.

I have dry skin and have never really found a great foundation. I have tried
Lancome (the light reflecting one)
Virgin
Clinique(soft something)

I need a medium coverage that makes me look like I HAVE slept in the last 6 months.

Any reccomendations. My skin is yellowy rahther than pink ish and so I have to be careful about coulur matching. IS the prescriptibves custom thing any good?

Laura Mercier is great, but has been superceded in my make up bag my the wonderful ERA spray on foundation. Also available at SPace NK. You just close your eyes, spray and then pat with a puff.

ANGELMOTHER · 08/09/2003 09:10

Isn't nice to know that despite, childbirth, sagging breasts, leaking milk, and all sorts of side-effects of being a woman, that the very topic of "Make - Up" gets us all chattering like teenagers

codswallop · 08/09/2003 13:15

I like the mac idea beety, I have a blusher of theirs that I lurv.

I was allergic to Touche eclat - looked like a sunburned panda int he end

I really like one by Ultima II, called something like Beautiful Nutrient. I've never been much of a one for foundation, but this one is good, and I also have skin that tends towards the dry and yellow (attractive, eh?)

Enid · 08/09/2003 13:23

prufrock, also been tempted but does it dry your skin?

I like Chanel foundation and Laura Mercier and am addicted to Clarins Beauty Flash balm, blusher and lipgloss.

WideWebWitch · 08/09/2003 13:25

I never take make up off either, am a complete slut. I use Clinique balanced make up base, which I think is fab, with Body Shop neutral glow enhancer over the top (it's not all glittery, just makes you look slightly glowy - well, unless everyone's lying to me anyway). Prufrock, with these spray things how do you manage to get it only on your face and not all over your hair/clothes etc? Also agree that Touche Eclat is one of the finest beauty products invented. Coddy, are you sure you put it on properly? If you put it under all of your eyes it does look strange but IME if you just use it on the bag bits nearest your nose (DYKWIM?) it really wakes your face up.

prufrock · 08/09/2003 13:36

the ERA spray comes with a headband that you put on before you spray. The it's just a question of good directional control (Oh and don't frown whilst spraying cos ou end up with lines) I have v. dry skin on my cheeks and it is always fine. My skin is not brilliant, but on the two occasions my Mum has seen me wearing wearing ERA she's commented on how wonderful it looks.
I use Stila all over shimer on top instead of blusher and that gives that lovely glowy look as well

SamboM · 08/09/2003 13:57

I have pretty sensitive skin and I use Clarins products, I am not allergic to any of their range.
They do a brilliant all in one thing, called something like Teint Velours Multi Eclat. You put it on in about 30 seconds and it lasts for ages.

Their Beauty Flash Balm is the best skin product in the universe! You put it on before your makeup and it really does make you look less tired and wrinkly.

princesspeahead · 08/09/2003 14:18

beauty flash balm is great. also second the stila lip shimmers. and I love the stila packaging which, lets face it, is important...!
the other good range is Nars - I have a fantastic bronzer which just makes me look healthy, not "bronzed" IYKWIM, but I haven't tried the foundations.
think an hour in a SPace NK should sort you out

codswallop · 08/09/2003 14:35

codswallop · 08/09/2003 19:06

I found Laura Mercier not good for dry skin. I have her secret camouflage. Bobbi Brown has some excellent foundations which are creamy and have a yellowy base (or something like that). I also like Shiseido and Mac. You should go to the store and try a bunch out and see which works for you.

WendyRead · 08/09/2003 20:00

Thanks Coswallop! The have a store here in Orlando, I have to go check it out and try some of the products.

codswallop · 08/09/2003 20:20

wendy - we expect to see you like a scarlet woman tomorrow.

change your name - its too..normal

OP posts:
WendyRead · 08/09/2003 20:31

You are so right about the name....I really have to think of something good.....

RockingRosebud · 08/09/2003 20:39

I spent years buying foundation and never wearing it. It has dawned on me recently that it's because I was buying a light colour which made me look too pale and I always felt I was wearing a mask. Brain of Britain here has finally found an M&S liquid one in the right colour but a bugger to get on so don't often wear it!
