School Tights that last for more than one wear!!

My dd needs grey tights for school and I can't find any that last more than one wear.

H&M fell apart in the washing machine.
Tesco snagged and pulled within minutes of being on her legs, she looks like she's been playing in a bramble hedge and all she'd done was get dressed!
Debenhams went all bobbly and fluffy even before they were washed, they look horrible and they're really thin around the gusset - if she wears them twice they're in big holes around the crotch.

Someone must make comfortable yet hard-wearing and functional girls' school tights. I've tried M&S but they only seem to have grey for older girls, dd needs age 6.

I used to tumble dry DDs tights until I realised it made the elastic in the waist go all baggy. If you air-dry they might last longer?

WigWamBam · 06/10/2005 14:42

hornbag, most of them haven't lasted long enough to get as far as the line or the tumble-drier! Some of them haven't lasted long enough to get as far as the washing-machine.

I airdry Hornbag - doesn't make any difference!

I have exactly the same problem WWB and dd is now needing more tights again. Got some from BHS which would have been ok if she'd not fallen over. Needed to buy her size 7-8 though to get them to fit her. She's just turned five! Might look out the pex ones from the school shop - I remember that make from my school-days!

mrspink27 · 06/10/2005 15:24

another vote for Pex

fimac1 · 06/10/2005 16:15

Dd is in year 6 now so have had plenty of experience in tights! PEX were the best as far as quality/price - she wants she black opaque ones now though not the nice brown cotton ones I used to get her to wear

Thanks all. I'm new to all this uniform malarkey, never needed to use school tights before, and it shows!
