Can't afford a Pashley

I SO want a pashley princess (it's a very special kind of bike, handmade my elves from silk and gold judging by the price Hmm) but i shall never be able to afford one, even on ebay Sad

So, what is the name of that kind of old fashioned lady bike with a basket on the front so i can do a search for something similar but cheaper? i have searched 'ladies bike' and there are 43 thousand kinds, likewise 'ladies bike with basket'

is there a generic name like there is for a mountain bike / racing bike etc?

thank you

do a search on dutch bike. and you will see loads. where about are you. there is a great shop in london that sometimes has a good sale on this type of bike. bobbins bikes

CerealOffender · 24/08/2010 12:04

i splashed out and got a pashley. i use it alot and wanted something that was low maintenance. it is fantastic

CerealOffender · 24/08/2010 12:06

i'm in wiltshire, miles from anywhere, except the shop that sells pashleys, the other day i was walking through town and someone had left theirs just leaning up agianst a shop, i nearly did a sneaky swap, leaving DS in his pram in it's place while i rode away whooping.

oh i do so want one Sad

i am 5 8! i have teh 20" but the 22.5" would have done as well but i went smaller due to teh extra weight. i have the seat right up. the 18 is definitely too small

CerealOffender · 24/08/2010 12:18

that pashley is a steal!. i have the blue

PuraVida · 24/08/2010 12:24

i was totally crazed before i bought mine!

notrightnow · 24/08/2010 12:30

I love my Pashley - I have a dark green Princess Sovereign. My amazing DH bought me one (way better than diamonds!) and it is my Best Thing.

However, my daughter wanted a bike 'like yours Mummy' and we got her one of these: summer picnic It's jolly good, and a couple of hundred quid cheaper than a Pashley.

What you will want next is a Yakkay helmet ... in pink tweed!

StrictlyTory · 24/08/2010 12:36

I'm thinking about getting one for Xmas as I didn't get a Birthday present last week.... so can combine the 2 Grin Does anyone know whether it can pull a Croozer kid for 2 trailer?

CerealOffender · 24/08/2010 12:38

i haul dd round on a tag-a-long on mine

PuraVida · 24/08/2010 13:06

here

StrictlyTory · 24/08/2010 13:25

Oh I want one! I bought DS the pickle last Xmas and have been desperate for my princess since then Grin

DH said for the most republican person he knows he's slightly shocked I want a bike with the name 'Princess' and 'Soverign' on Grin

PuraVida · 24/08/2010 13:28

gulp, think i may need to sell the car / dog / DS

OP posts:
StrictlyTory · 24/08/2010 13:30

But think how long they'll last for Grin that's what I'm telling myself!

DH isn't that keen as he says I'll never manage the Croozer with it and we can't go on 'proper bike rides' as it has no suspension :(

PuraVida · 24/08/2010 13:50

it has springs in the seat - isn't that suspension?

i've just written a list of things i can ebay to start my Pashley Fund.

after looking at these links and dutch bikes i think only a Pashley will do.

if the others were only £100 i'd be more up for it but they are nearky as much anyway Smile

OP posts:
NomDePlume · 24/08/2010 14:07

ST's DH means forked suspension. Those little springs under the seta don't sound like the right sort of suspension for the type of cycling he has in mind....

StrictlyTory · 24/08/2010 15:09

Hehehheheh I said about the springs in the seat and DH looked at me like I was a total weirdo Grin Glad I'm not the only one who thinks that's enough! I said I'm not cycling down Everest so I don't need real suspension.... he's not convinced! I didn't get a Birthday present as he put me off an iPad at the last moment saying what a silly fad it was so I'm thinking this is his new plan, put me off everything so he doesn't ever have to spend a £....

CerealOffender · 24/08/2010 15:14

i have cycled on fairly rough mountain tracks with mine. and yes it would be easier on a mountain bike but i wouldn't look half as nice!

strictlytory, if i can haul a 6 year old on the back of mine you can manage
