Neighbour"s loud sex life

AlexandraPalatial · 17/07/2025 14:46

About 3 months ago a new neighbour moved in to the complex where I live. Single guy 40ish, Irish I think, really came across as a very quiet and unassuming person, shy even.
Not long after he moved in, the noises started. Now there's no evidence ar all this is anything other than consensual, non transactional sex, and yes it's his business.
The reality is im a light sleeper and (apologies from being graphic);the sounds I'd the bed squeaking and women's (one at a time, but appears to be a series rather than the same one), frankly bloody loud orgasms are making it hard to sleep. Last night which I found hot anyway they were at it at least 4 times. I can hardly tell him to reduce the volume and I don't want to move.

The only answer having had the same issue many years ago is to confront him or record what you can hear and play it back to him.

I couldn't possibly.do that! When you did so, what reaction did you get?

This happened to me before, however I was the man in question and the woman was a now ex-girlfriend, who used to visit a couple of nights a week.

I had not long moved in and had only met the woman dowstairs once or twice, but she very politely and embarrassedly collared me alone one day and told me about the noise. I genuinely had no idea it was that loud, and I was very embarrassed but pleased she had told me.

I spoke to my then gf and we made sure we kept the noise down.

Had she put a note through the door anonymously, I might have had an idea who it was but would never have knocked to see, but it would have been equally as effective.

So if you can't face him to tell, then definitely at the least send an anonymous note. Even better if anyone else can do it to, so theres a few people backing you up.

Pollyminx3 · 17/07/2025 22:11

I mean if your single/straight/interested there is a possibly far better solution to this I think 😂

Failing that, just put a note through the door or play music loudly when they do it, they’ll hear and get the idea hopefully!

Whatisthisstuff · 17/07/2025 22:11

This reminds me of our old neigher "dirty dawn". She used to wait til the kids had gone to their dad's house and then this bloke used to come over. Not sure what his name was but she definitely shouted Jesus a lot so we assumed that was his name.

SleeplessontheWirral · 17/07/2025 22:18

🤣🤣🤣🤣

SleeplessontheWirral · 17/07/2025 22:19

I think it’s the best solution

Ireallywantadoughnut36 · 17/07/2025 23:04

Just pop a note in his post or under his door, you can make it anonymous if you feel more comfortable. I don't think they will be able to stop the bed squeaking but hopefully they can stop the vocals!

dizzydizzydizzy · 17/07/2025 23:12

Had this problem a few years back. It was every Saturday morning. My friend went on my balcony and clapped and cheered. 🤣

I can go round there if you like to see if I can reason with him. Just send me his address. It may take a while but I'll stay until I get results. No need to thank me.

This is hilarious 🤣

This was 40 years or so ago and the neighbour laughed it off and commented they could hear my new girlfriend and me making the same noises. We met in the pub which was a few doors away and it was all very friendly.

AlexandraPalatial · 18/07/2025 09:04

I really don't know of I can go down any of the suggested routes. I barely know him to nod to. It's surreal, he's totally softly spoken & comes across as shy.
Last night was an average one for bedroom noise, of the 3 or so a week this seems to recur. It was a surreal experience watching Reeta Chakrabarti on news ar ten talking about the data breach, punctuated with female orgasm screams amd the sound of a presumably iron bedstead rattling loudly. The again around 4 am. Admittedly I was only lightly sleeping due to the heat. Thankfully I'm away this weekend..

Could have been worse, could have been Huw Edwards…

Alwaysinamood · 18/07/2025 10:04

It’s always the quiet ones 😂
I think the note is the best option otherwise you’ll just have to put up with it 😩

ZingyLemonMoose · 18/07/2025 11:05

I’d do it back. He’s surely think if he can hear you, you can hear him…

mnmnddddd · 18/07/2025 11:36

You could find a company that specialises in sound proofing, make sure they know it's for the bedroom wall, arrange for them to come round to quote, and give them your neighbour's address?

[PS Only joking - this is a crap way to waste a builder's time.]

Sadly not really in a position to do this atm😀

Re: the TV programme soundtrack, yes I'm certainly glad it wasn't anyone horrible like that man. On one previous occasion they went at it during Quesrion Time. Fiona Bruce trying to keep order and artfully asking for "the gentleman in the blue shirt"'s views on toxic masculinity while an American accented woman screamed "o God don't fucking stop!" Isn't something I'll forget. I'm just glad they don't do reruns of Songs of Praise...

Record it and play it back at suitable times , quite loud with speakers up against the wall

He may recognise himself 😃

travellinglighter · 18/07/2025 14:52

I had the same happen to me when I got divorced, I was living in a flat with thin walls and I don’t know who it was but there were three distinctly different individuals. The religious one ( oh God, oh god repeatedly), Tourette’s ( fuck oh fuck etc) and the screamer.

Disappointing when I was single and getting sod all.

Happysummerrain · 19/07/2025 00:41

Slip a card through his letter box “Hope you’ve settled in well. It certainly sounds like you have. P.S. seriously… it’s very loud at.. night time...” 😆

Olddad72 · 20/07/2025 13:13

We had a similar situation with a former neighbour, when she had a new partner we would be entertained a couple of times a night with the grunting and groaning and swearing. Sometimes bum slapping too and when she was done she'd laugh 🤣. After the novelty had worne off we'd still hear her from time to time but not as dramatic...... until the next one.
After she sold up the new people either were just quieter or they did a bit of sound proofing or possibly just don't have sex.
Good luck fingers crossed they'll be less vocal soon.

Umidontknow · 20/07/2025 13:53

Wow he sounds good... Are you single 😆

It's a good point.
