Who here has seen the Wandsworth Prison sex video? What are your thoughts?

There is a video being circulated online that shows a female prison officer having sex with an inmate in Wandsworth Prison. I won't be linking to it on MN but it can easily be found on Twitter/X. A lot of people are understandably disgusted by it. I'm wondering how it will be received here in the sex section itself.

I feel the same tbh. The men are in prison as punishment, and she has betrayed her uniform and colleagues.

I hope the men get extra time and she gets time as a prisoner. Prisons should be much stricter, with the aim of punishment and rehabilitation.

Boundaries are made to keep everyone safe, and the officer has crossed this one big time. The prison itself sounds in a bit of a state according to the article linked, so I can appreciate that staff morale is probably already pretty low. But she has abused her position of authority, and that can’t be tolerated (just like in education or healthcare).

Surely this sort of shit is why so many people think the sex section should be closed down because it’s full of deviants being inappropriate. Why would posters in the sex section have anything different to say about unlawful gross misconduct which brings the profession into disrepute and can potentially pose a security risk to other officers and prisoners? Or were you hoping that because we’re “sex people” we’d be falling over ourselves to discuss the riskiest places we’ve ever had sex, or mark her out of 10 for her blowjob skills?

Who ever thought it a good idea to put female staff in male prisons needs to be given a pick-axe handle and be told to go round the back of the office building and spend an hour beating themselves over the head with it.
And ditto for male staff in female prisons.

Thats not the issue. I have friends in the prison service and the problem is not male officers in female prisons, or female officers in male prisons, but the lack of training and background checks for new staff.

The prison service is massively understaffed, and they are trying to recruit any old jo bloggs to make up the short fall and not recruiting the right people, and poorly training the ones they do recruit.

Thank you for responding, but I still think having male staff in women's prisons and female staff in men's prisons is a stupid idea.

Why would the prisoner be the person to get extra time? Would you say the same if it was a male guard having sex with a female prisoner? Probably not

Yep I would. The prisoner is prison as punishment. If the prisoner has broken rules by shagging an officer (prisoner/officer of either sex) then yes they should be punished with extra time, or removal of privileges. It didn't look like to me like he was coerced into have sex with her.

You’re focusing on the wrong person. It’s not about whether the prisoner has done xyz with a police guard. It’s about the police guard who’s done xyz with a prisoner.

I’m not clued up on the UK laws in this situation but in the US, if a prison officer is caught having sex with an inmate, not only are they sacked but they’re also charged and placed on the sex offenders list. It’s a crime for an officer, who’s in a position of power, to sleep with an inmate who legally can’t consent. Again, I have no clue if it’s the same in the UK but I definitely do not think the prisoner is the one who should be punished here.

I guess we’ll have to see what happens!

In the UK is would ( or should) be an offence under the heading “Misconduct in public office “, which does potentially carry jail time

if the Genders were reversed and it was a male guard having sex with a female prisoner he would get the book chucked at him as an abuse of power & I hope the woman gets exactly the same TBH, the fact the person in the power position is female should make no difference, the punishment should be the same

I do think she should have the book thrown at her, but I also think the power dynamic would be different if it were a male prison guard and female prisoner.

I am baffled as to why she’s risked this. Losing so much. She can’t be very bright.

Maybe there is something to be said for that, even so , most people would still expect prison guards to guard prisoners not shag them 🤷🏻

It's entirely inappropriate and an abuse of power. The prison officer should be sacked for gross misconduct as a minimum. I'm not sure whether she's committed a crime...

The male prisoners have nothing to lose, maybe a bit of added time but that’s it. They’re in prison anyway.

As for woman in men’s prisons and vice versa, it actually works well to have a mixture of male and female staff in each.

The rules changed in the 1980s, and shouldn’t change again because a few bad apples break the rules.

Not true at all, most woman in male prisons are professional. The same goes for men in female prisons.

Its actually far better to have a mixture of both male and female staff.

They weren't coerced. But in a prison situation, the inmate has very limited freedoms and limited access to things. The guards are in a position of complete power and the only way to get privileges/things/permissions is through them. So it isn't ever possible to freely consent. Even though the prisoners in this case probably didn't feel abused, she or anyone else has absolutely no idea whether this was actually the case. So there has to be zero tolerance. Plus many men in prison might have head injuries, emotional issues, low mental age. That doesn't mean they don't deserve to be in custody. It does mean that prison guards shouldn't be having sex with them.

Background checks aren’t really relevant in these types of cases. When they do vetting , they can only vet you on what you’ve done in the past . You’re just a name on a computer with information.

They can’t tell that in the future a prison officer is going to sleep, have sex with a prisoner. Vetting can never be foolproof.

Also, in training it’s made very clear about boundaries with prisoners. It’s bloody common sense that you don’t have sex with a prisoner , even before someone joins they should know that !
