How does morning glory work?

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 07:50

Sorry for being naive but how does it work, do men just wake up with one? My dh does/did most times (or has one earlier in his sleep). This made sense to me as thought it was hormonal/blood pressure/sleep cycles etc.
However the other day he didn’t have one then was awake just reading some football scores on his phone I think and then I noticed he got a hard on. I asked him what he was thinking about and he just said it’s morning wood and he can’t control it… but he was already awake?
Just confused!!!

I would say he was looking at something other than football scores maybe ?

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 08:02

I saw his phone it was the bbc sport website! Lol. I’m not sure if he was paying attention to it or thinking about something else that’s why I asked him!!

It happens..teens and twenties more frequently than when in you 40's and 50's but it happens..usually when one wakes up so maybe a dream...who knows

How would he be dreaming if he was awake though? That’s what I mean. He’d been awake a good 15 minutes and was just looking at bbc sport website.
My assumption was he must have been thinking about something that gave him a hard on but when I asked he said it was morning glory. Not sure I’ve heard about morning glory once awake before? In which case trying to work out why he was being evasive (I’ll have to ask him onc I have a better understanding if ‘delayed’ morning glory really a thing)!

Must have been looking at the Liverpool, Man Utd result. Enough to give anyone a hard on!

Absolutely 😂😂😂😂

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 08:34

Btw don’t want to police his thoughts of course it’s the lie that bothers me and trying to convince me it’s normal morning wood when he’s already awake!
Not sure anyone has really answered my question?

Spontaneous erection happens. There doesn't have to be an obvious reason. He might have been thinking about you. He may have been sitting in a position that applied pressure in an appropriate zone but it may just have happened....they do and men have no way of stopping them. They usually fade fairly quickly

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 08:39

Ok thanks. I thought that was more teenagers than 40 year old men but you learn something new every day.

My hubby is 49 and still gets morning wood it's normal and half the time he isn't thinking about anything

Yes he does get it most mornings it was just that he woke up without it then got a hard on that confused me!

Definitely normal, I have quite vivid dreams (😆) which I think compounds it but also sometimes I think if I wake up really needing a wee it's like a safety valve my brain has.

OhJeez40isjustaroundthecorner · 06/03/2023 09:37

My DH gets them every morning, I sometimes touch him and say ‘well hello!’ it sometimes leads to a morning quickie, depending on time.

Oldtadger · 06/03/2023 10:26

Some times it simpler to ask Google rather than a bunch of amateurs like us.

Hope you didn't let it go to waste!

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 11:27

Thanks… again it was more clarifying you get them when awake sometime in the morning - rather than just on waking- which I’ve never heard of before.

God what a palaver. You're really intent on knowing why a bloke gets an erection whilst in bed looking at his phone? You sound quite .. overbearing

HornyBee · 06/03/2023 12:42

Gosh! How dare he get an erection!
And then have you demanding to know why he has one!
And THEN not believing him when he tells you!
Your poor husband! 🤣

Anotherbloke1 · 06/03/2023 17:07

Waking up hard is supposed to be a healthy sign too. Sometimes I have one sometimes I don't. We get them often for no reason at all.

Led9519 · 06/03/2023 17:20

Thanks. For context we were both awake. He was checking football scores, I was giving 4 month old DC a morning bottle. Then noticed he was getting one, I just thought it was funny and asked him what he was thinking of. He said “it’s just morning glory.” So suppose it’s either that or football turns him on!

mid 50's here, and still sometimes wake with a raging erection, it usually subsides on it own though, good job as wife isnt a morning person. amazingly often find myself very hard the morning after sex. occasionally i feel the need to take care of it, but usually it goes on its own. I think its quite a normal thing

Morning glory or morning wood. Every night when men are in deep sleep, and in an unconscious state (experiencing REM) we experience 4 or 5 "nocturnal erections" It can occur any time we are comatose. The penis expands to re generate our capability to have sex during the next day. Nocturnal penile tumescence as it is called is also mirrored in women where it is called Nocturnal clitoral tumescence (morning bean). Please consult Wikipedia for info.

Thanks I have but as he was scrolling bbc sport at the time it then he definitely wasn’t asleep which is all in my original post. He’d been awake 15 minutes or so before he got wood so I’m not quite sure “morning glory” explains it. But being a woman I don’t really know!

I think if my wife told me she had morning bean I'd be worried last nights tea was ready to make a reappearance 🤣🤣
