Shaving private areas and comfort

Hello

DH loves me shaved and cleans down there. Initially, it is pleasant/etc and DH is happy but a few days after it is itchy because of stubble/etc.

I or DH uses his Gillette shaving Gel and Sensory 3 razors. Is there anything I could do to stop or even reduce the itching? At times I used med cream to reduce itching. Once the hair is a bit longer and not sharp its better ie back to normal.

I prefer a shave but the downside puts me off. Thanks in advance

Not for an intimate wax..?! I'm a masochist but fuck no!

Agreed. Any time I tried this, I always catch skin it's so awkward, and get really odd red marks.

MovingonfromMartin · 30/12/2022 18:45

I have also suffered horribly with itchy grow back. I've been dry brushing upwards in-between shaves - so against the hair growth- and this is certainly helping to reduce the number of ingrowing hairs. I am though, probably going to give up shaving mind you. As much as I love the feel when I am freshly shaved, it is not worth the effort in-between for 1 day feeling that good!

This did make me laugh!

Sugaspunsista · 30/12/2022 20:42

Yes I do use it for the whole intimate area.
Totally bald down there.
Only really hurt the first time.
I haven't caught any skin

burgledinParis · 30/12/2022 22:13

I second an epilator - I've never caught skin. Hurts like fuck the first time, take ibuprofen an hour or so before ( and a glass of wine) - and the first time needs to be done I'd say at least 48 hours before any "activity".

Then use a lotion with salicylic acid and exfoliate with a soft brush or flannel.
Each successive time is less painful and after 3-4 months its nearly painless. it also make the hair finer ( I don't know if this is actually true or just an impression - but it's how I feel) and the hair takes more and more time to grow back.

I have this one www.philips.fr/c-p/HP6492_00/satinelle-ice-epilateur - it has an ice bit you put in the fridge/freezer before and is amazing.

Willow12345 · 30/12/2022 23:55

I use an epilator too. The more you use it the less painful it is and hairs take a long time to regrow.

Oh for the 70’s/ 80’s to make a comeback when men liked nothing better than a big hairy bush!

totallyoutnumbered · 31/12/2022 00:21

I shave every other day with a gilette Punic hair razor (the design mimics men's 3 blade razors) along with veet shave oil. The gillete range has a follow up lotion that helps soothe too. To prevent ingrowing hairs, exfoliates the are. Im always hair free and bump free

Burgledinparis, Sounds like a lot of effort and some pain , personally have no issue with a hairy bush, something to run your fingers through, though I have to admit I do keep my bits well trimmed, OH hates hairs in her mouth

StarlightLady · 31/12/2022 12:14

I've been a "bald eagle" since my late teens, 40s now.

Over the years I've varied from Hollywood waxes (advantage, it's smoother at the start but the downside is you have to put up with the regrowth period), Veet Pure Inspirations (doing the spot test first is essential) and shaving.

If you are new to pubic hair removal and opt to shave, I would suggest, for the first few weeks at least, a daily shave as part of your daily shower routine, using hair conditioner and ensuring you have a sharp blade, try the Venus raspberry razor. That way any initial itching will be minimal and wshould diaper for good, the body will get used to it and take that as the norm. Like people, bodies don't always like change.

Finally, it is your choice do what you want for you. As for those who thinks it's porn inspired though, pubic hair removal services were common practice in the bathhouses of Ancient Greece and Ancient Rome, it is nothing new.

Tendskin. Its an astringent specifically to get rid of razor rash, itch, redness, and ingrown hairs. Use it after shaving- its miraculous and really really works.

BasicItch · 01/01/2023 08:44

You can buy electric shavers specifically for this.
User name a coincidence lol

Thanks, very helpful. Waiting for my cream of the hair removal type as suggested by poster here

Re "porn inspired," I agree with you. When I first went bald it was for me, I was young about 20 and the next time I made love it was awsome - I carried on for a few weeks but the itch made me stop. Then light trims only until DH asked me to as per my previous posts.

If it did not sting, I'm 100% bald all day long. For DH/men I think its even more tichy

Philips OneBlade is great for this. For guys anyway!

Thisisworsethananticpated · 02/01/2023 08:50

The trick is to use a good razer and shaving cream
i use a Gillette Venus

i much prefer being clean shaved and oil afterwards with almond oil

the more I do it the less it itches and actually my vaginal health is better without pubes (long story but i exercise and cycle a lot )

losingtheplotslowly · 05/01/2023 22:35

Waxing all the way. Ask for recommendations for good salons. Read reviews online etc. I went for the Hollywood today to someone new after a very long time and was quick and not as painful as before (and I have a very low pain threshold) when i have left for a long time. It’s smooth and no irritation.

Abigail69 · 15/01/2023 11:11

I've used the cream and it is much better and DH agrees. Used it several times but it may have worked better/easier is the hair was longer - feel so much better, silky smooth
Thanks all

I use veet (one for sensitive skin) leave it on for around 8min then shower with a cloth to wipe away Everything, I sometimes get a bath straight after to get moisture to the areas. Then once dried put some moisturiser cream on. No issues.

PermanentTemporary · 17/01/2023 17:13

Having tried shaving im back to waxing. It is expensive though. I like Boots facial scrub with tea tree oil for exfoliating/reducing ingrowth in between.

Abigail69 · 18/01/2023 11:28

Update - still smooth-sih but I am hoping after a few uses the hairs will be soft. DH loved it, so thanks to those that helped.

Btw, the slight downside, getting hairs off creases etc you know what i mean, took several attempts and a long time

I've always used very on bum area and shaved other areas. Leave on for no longer than 8min. I wipe it of with a cloth in the shower. I've just ordered a IPL for longer results.

I take it the cream is suitable for intimate areas? I always thought hair removal cream wasn't recommended for intimate areas so have never considered using it.. now wondering if I can (I hate shaving and get lots of ingrown hairs)?!
