Condoms

Dp and I recently started to use condoms post me giving birth before I've decided what long term contraception to use.

This is the first time we've used them together and bought some ultra thin feel ones so that dp has more sensation than with normal thickness.

The condoned leave a red indentation ring around the base and he says they are very uncomfortable and hard to get on.

I've told him that means we would be best to try a larger size,
He doubts this as he thinks his penis is average.

Anyway, so I've been looking for larger condoms with thin feel and they don't seem to exist.
The ones made larger seem to be just standard thickness, and having had a look online at condom sizes, half of the ones branded as larger aren't actually any larger at all.

Can anyone recommend any?

What make did you try?

When we used them we used Mates, are they still around? Couldn't get on with Durex at all.

Rockspin · 03/07/2017 12:55

Trojan condoms are bigger sized and they do a 'bareskin' variety which is very thin. We're in the same post baby boat as you and had to try a few varieties!
Also found sillicone based lube has been really helpful too.

Condom sizing isn't universal/standardised. Brands are often sized according to their market (statistically speaking some populations have a smaller penis size on average). Their ' regular' size offerings will be smaller than those who are using other stats as their 'average'.

E.g. Japanese condoms (often favoured because they are v elegantly made and are v thin) are often on the snug side.

We've so far tried Mates natural, Durex and Skins.

The skins are by far the tightest but they are also the thinnest.

The mates are still a bit tight but not as difficult to put on as the skins.

size chart with dimensions for brands and individual styles here, along with sizing advice

US site but the dimensions stuff might be useful as a comparison for you to measure what you've tried against the competition.

Trojan are definitely worth a try. DP is too large for regular condoms, they really won't fit on at all, he always hated condoms before but is happy to use the Trojan ones. He didn't have any trouble with the sensitivity either.

It sounds like it's his girth rather than length that's the problem, so look for condoms which state the width in mm. The largest you can buy easily is the brand "My Size" which is available in 69mm width and the feel is very very good - much better than Pasante SuperKing which I was using before. They do a trial pack with different sizes so you could find the best fit.

They are more expensive than a high street brand but I'd say definitely worth it. Also remember that using a condom that's too tight is more likely to make it break, so it's important both for his comfort and not having any slip-ups!

Ineedmorelemonpledge · 04/07/2017 10:06

You can buy made to measure ones from a company called "Theyfit"

NomDePlumeReloaded · 04/07/2017 10:09

According the link I added, Magnum Thin by Trojan & The Legend by The One hav ave the widest circumference of those tested, at 4.4ins (The One are longer).

NomDePlumeReloaded · 04/07/2017 10:10

Though that is smaller than 69mm wide, admittedly

NomDePlumeReloaded · 04/07/2017 10:15

Can I just say, I was really sceptical about the sex board (long time MNer, change is often a problem, there was a massive hoo-ha when _chat was introduced!). However, I've had a mooch/lurk this last few days and overall it's good. I thought it would be troll central but largely it is populated by thoughtful people giving sensitive advice.

Sorry to patronise/crash the thread/whatever but it is nice to be proved wrong on this occasion.

Helps that you have to be a long time member ( 6months iirc) before posting, but I agreeSmile

Ha! Walked right into that one, didn't I?Grin

I found Boots own ones (ribs and dots actually) to be a wider than normal fit as i was having overly snug fit issues

user1471447863 · 07/07/2017 09:53

Also for snug fit /willy strangling issues and for close to real feel, try femidoms. We got on great with them - called them magic protectors.
They are not fit and use though, you need to leave them in for 20mins or so before use to warm up and soften/mould themselves in.

tiba · 07/07/2017 10:26

I hadn't thought of femidoms.

Can you feel it ?

user1471447863 · 07/07/2017 10:56

I can only speak from a guys perspective, but yes you can feel it but it is as close to the real thing as we could get.
My wife loved them. Preferred them over normal condoms but they do take a little planning so not for a random quickie. i believe you can put it in upto a couple of hours in advance if you want to surprise him

Renarde75 · 23/07/2017 02:25

Femidoms are fucking awful. Feels like the kind of bags you get in the veg section of the supermarket.

Blushingm · 23/07/2017 21:55

What about unique condoms?
