Secondary Waiting Lists 2010

Does anyone have any idea when the 'movements' start??

My daughter is 11th on her first choice, 20th on her second, 22nd on the addtional school we considered, 27th on our third choice and 63rd on our 4th choice..... I really don't know what, if any, chance she has for any of the schools?????

She asks virtually everyday if she is nearer to the top, but so far has only moved one spot up on one list and one spot down on another!!

Help

Just back from BT to Egypt today and letter
about trial day at secondary school arrived.
It seems to be getting closer and closer!

Now just to control myself until Tuesday and find out movements of the waiting list over the holiday.

Hope everyone had a good half term.

Sue

It's difficult that may be a two edge sword as they could say I should stick with the school she has been allocated?

Still checking positions tommorrow and hopeful.

The appeal is the 16th and the one day trial at her allocated school on the 1st (who knows she may like it.....).

I'll post tomorrow or Tuesday on the movement.

Any news from PrincessTippyToes?

Standing now:-

Wren 5th (previously 4th - two more new lots
moved in, one got a place virtually immediately)
QE Girls 5th (previously 8th)
Copthall 21st (previously 23rd)
Friern Barnet 13th (previously 15th)

It is a real rollercoater at the moment with Wren, whereas the other schools moved in DD's favour over the holiday, Wren added another two to the list, placed one and moved DD down again - seems we've been around 5th forever!!

Having an extremely bad day .

Still not all bad moving slowly but steadily for QE girls (and that is the easiest journey of all the schools!! even though not the closest).

Hi Sue

Looks like QE will overtake The Wren with the way things are going! I suppose at least QE can only take new girls in the area!

Fingers crossed for your Wren appeal - the appeal dates seem very close to the open evening/days.

Hope to hear some good news soon x

sue41 · 09/06/2010 08:12

Tks Boobddum

Yes, it is looking like QE will be first - at least it's an
easy journey and DD likes the school. Can you believe one of the waiting list newcomers was already on the waiting list and just moved closer!

The Wren open day is 7th July, so close, not sure when their parents open evening is...but with the appeals I've had so far you have the result the next day!

Have a good day
Sue

Standing now:-

Wren 5th (previously 5th)
QE Girls 5th (previously 5th)
Copthall 22nd (previously 21st)
Friern Barnet 14th (previously 13th)

Run through of appeal with Headmaster tomorrow - really uncertain this time after losing the first two. Just hope I can push it through - they accepted 2 on appeal last year.

Wednesday is Appeal day.....

Spoke to the council today and they confirmed my worst fears, they don't usually get much more movement between now and September.

Pushing the advantages of Ravenscroft to DD so she isn't too upset if she has to attend for a term or two.

Have all my fingers crossed for Wednesday.

Sue

Hi PixiOnaLeaf

Yes had a look round, not a bad school, an 'improving' status.

Really don't think right for DD but as you say you never know.

Based on make-up of pupils and subjects available covered - its not right, but it has some pluses, there is a possibility that some of her old school mates from when she was in Barnet will go there and they have good pastoral care system.

Anyway, thanks the support, I'll put the result here eventually whatever it turns out to be!!

Appeal for Wren over, just fingers crossed now. Will know tomorrow a.m.

One woman at the appeal had been offered Ravenscroft, turned it down due to the journey and then got offered Friern Barnet and was appealing due to a bully going to
Friern Barnet.....at least she got offered two schools - I should have turned Ravenscroft down, at least the journey would have been easy even if not one of our choices.

Don't expect much more movement on waiting lists so just crossing fingers for a good result from today.

Fingers crossed for you too - hope it's good news.

sue41 · 17/06/2010 15:00

Last message on this string!

Had Wren appeal yesterday and she got in, I'm still in shock (although the good kind!!).

Thanks for all the support, this forum has helped a lot with my going through this period and I am so relieved it's now all over.

Well done! Very pleased for you.

Been watching your thread with interest, I have my ds's appeal coming up on monday.

Did you do anything different at the Wren appeal? Or was it because it was your first choice do you think?

sue41 · 17/06/2010 18:04

Hi gillybean2 - tks the congratulations.

I did have a run through with our primary head the day before. The main difference is I made more of the fact we had previously lived in the area of the allocated school and had problems with children still attending that school and our DD.

I also think a big factor was I had done a lot of work thanks to bits and pieces picked up on this site. Being an academy I checked the funding agreement and raised it as an issue (the school had been opened for local children and still the catchment area had not increased!), also Wren had more space than the others so in theory could take one or two additional children. I checked with the school and they had taken 2 on appeal the year previously and in 2008 had taken 3 over their published intake. Check your chosen schools latest ofstead and highlight any reasons within it that relate to your argument. Check if they have accepted higher numbers in the past.

I also highlighted that she had been 3rd on the waiting list and if it had not been for newcomers to the area she would have already got a place.

I also had my neighbours support/refence letter whose daughter attends already and is ready to look after my DD initially.

Otherwise I used the same arguments as previously...

I don't know if it was any of the above or just a different panel, but I'm fairly sure that the additional reference and additional background work.

Good luck for Monday, fingers crossed for you! Let us know how it went.

OMG, you have just cheered up a really sh*y day for me - can't imagine how you are feeling!!!!!

I am sooo pleased for you after all you and your DD have been through

She will be very happy there x

sue41 · 18/06/2010 01:26

Hi Boobaddum - sorry to hear you had such a bad day. Hope tomorrow is better!!

I was jelly yesterday and almost in tears this morning (joy!!), I even was too scared to call. I had a good day for a change (had plenty of bad ones recently!!), won the appeal, won a large order and lost about 1.5lbs in weight ( 1 1/2 stone gone - another 3 to go!!)

Tks all your support, it really has helped.

Sue
