MaryAnnSweetheart · 11/02/2009 11:58

bellavita · 11/02/2009 12:39

Well done LGP's DD.

Polgara2 · 11/02/2009 16:23

Great, well done to your dd LGP!

Polgara2 · 11/02/2009 16:25

Oh and yes she did survive the trip to the office. Apparently it was a different woman who was 'quite nice actually'! Thank goodness because she's going to have to go again to get a new pair .

MaryAnnSweetheart · 11/02/2009 18:08

that's great polgara

MaryAnnSweetheart · 12/02/2009 16:18

ds has a pupil review day in March, where he meets his tutor for a 15 minute chat about goals/achievements etc. Ds seems keen for me to go (I think to talk about his friendship worries) - I will,if he does want this, but was also thinking that it's maybe something he needs to handle himself ? not to think that the tutor and I can sort it for him - it is ultimately up to him to join in/talk to others etc and I have explained this to him endlessly and encourage him every day...I just wondered what you guys think..

MaryAnnSweetheart · 12/02/2009 16:19

oh - I have spoken to tutor about this on the phone the week before last,so she knows my concerns.

roisin · 12/02/2009 17:18

At our school (the one I work at) pupil review days are for the student and and adult: both required in attendance.

At your school is it normal for just the pupil to attend?

bellavita · 12/02/2009 18:11

Don't think we have pupil days... however it is parent consultant day on 5th March.

MAS how about you speak to the teacher and ask her if she thinks you should go with DS? It's so hard isn't knowing what to do for the best, I wish I could wave a magic wand for you

DS has got a geography field trip to Manchester on the 2nd March, he has already asked us if he can take his i-pod - we have refused, can just imagine it getting broken, stolen, lost etc.

He proudly told us he has achieved a 6b on his IT project, there was just two things he missed - a sentence that did not make sense and something else and the teacher told him he would have made a 6a. I gave him a little bonus to put in his pocket money tin and have said to him if he can pull off another two 6's in other subjects or a 5 in English (which he struggles in) then he can have an extra £5.

bellavita · 12/02/2009 18:12

isn't it knowing

MaryAnnSweetheart · 12/02/2009 18:29

oh that's brilliant bellavita - well done to your ds
I'd keep the iPod safely at home - ds would be heartbroken if he lost his one I know.
roisin - they are for the pupil really (I didn't go to the previous one) but there is an option on the reply form to say that you will attend with them and it says on the letter that parents are invited to attend if they wish..I think bellavita's idea is good - I'll ring tutor and see if she thinks it'd be helpful.. thanks !

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 12/02/2009 21:09

Well done to your DS Bellavita. 6B is fantastic.

magentadreamer · 12/02/2009 21:37

Well done to your DS Bellavita

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/02/2009 14:54

have bought ds a Valentine's card - one aimed at children-from us,thought it might cheer him up, though possibly that might be construed as embarrassing ?

OP posts:
bellavita · 13/02/2009 14:59

I think DS1 would be a tad embarrassed! DS2 on the other hand would love it.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/02/2009 15:00

hmm, will see what dh thinks - it isn't all soppy,it just says what a great and brilliant boy he is

OP posts:
bellavita · 13/02/2009 15:04

oh that sounds ok then, tbh I haven't looked at valentines cards for years and years so I would not know what is out there.

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/02/2009 15:05

ah bellavita - do you not do such things ? I buy one for dh and we buy ourselves chocolates and fizzy wine to share

OP posts:
bellavita · 13/02/2009 15:16

MAS - sadly no! Perhaps I should, but he would think it is such a waste of money. I would say he is not exactly the romantic type.

I even have to write my own christmas list and advise the boys which shops need to be visited even down to where things are exactly on the shelves - same for birthdays.

Have already forewarned him what I would like for our 25th wedding anniversary.

A neighbour four doors up from us - well, what can I say, she gets spoilt to death - diamonds all the way - just for valentines (am not the jealous type - honest!!!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 13/02/2009 15:51

! dh isn't especially romantic but he does like the nice wine & chocs !!

I was talking to a work mate her DD is in Yr7 as well. Her DD was going to give a boy in her year a card - I thought it was really sweet as she'd done all the writing in a different handwriting etc bit.work mate wasn't too sure how she was going to actually give him the card and I hope the boy was nice about it if she did jst give it to him. My Dd would rather pull her toe nails out then admit she had a crush on a boy

I know they have to be worldly wise but sometimes I just want my little girl back. Last night we were watching TV and an Ad for chlaymida came on and DD started to tell me all about STD's etc and all I could think is she's 11 at 11 I'd have probably thought STD was a new pop band!

DD's maths teacher informed them they'd have another project to do next half term as well. They've not had the one they did for this half term back yet but DD got her Maths test back and did a lot better then she thought she had and went up a sub level. Maths seems to have clicked into place for her since she started High School.

One worrying thing is she has two English teachers - the one that taught them on a Friday left at the end of term so for this half term they appear to have supply teachers who come for a week and then it's another one the next week. Hopefully they'll get a permanent one soon.

Hope everyone has a good half term break DD and I are off to a book signing of her favourite author later on today.

magentadreamer · 14/02/2009 08:01

Well done your DS Bellavitia for his IT marks

MaryAnnSingleton · 14/02/2009 08:36

oh magenta - which author is that ? Have a lovely week everyone ! xxxx

OP posts:
magentadreamer · 14/02/2009 08:44

The author is Robert Muchamore, DD discovered him last Easter holidays and read his first 5 books in the two weeks she was off school. He's got a new series and the first book is out so DD really wanted to meet him and get the new book signed.
