And how do they get there?
And the same question but about you when you were at secondary school.
No reason for asking, just interested, after reading an article today.

Dd walks, approx 1/2 mile.
I cycled, about 2 miles.

12 miles. There is one nearer (about 1/2 mile) but the one 12 miles away is our nearest catholic school.

A school bus takes them. If they didn't go there then they would walk to the other school about 20 minute walk.

SlartyBartFast · 23/09/2008 22:07

10 minutes or so by car but they go by bus. unless there is after school club in which case yours truly has to get the car out.

i took a train to school, 5 minutes on the train, or walked through the park

magentadreamer · 23/09/2008 22:10

DD has a 5 min walk tops

I went to 3 High Schools - so bus/ school taxi/walked.

Freckle · 23/09/2008 22:11

10 minute walk for my boys.
30 minute bus ride followed by 10 minute walk for me.

SlartyBartFast · 23/09/2008 22:14

tell us about the article posey.

there cant be that many more secondary schools nowadays though can there?

frogs · 23/09/2008 22:14

How is secondary school going, Posey?

SlartyBartFast · 23/09/2008 22:14

or is this about being driven by car to school?

christywhisty · 23/09/2008 22:39

Ds's school is 5 miles away, plenty of schools closer but this one suited him. He has a 30min walk/ 7 minute bike ride (his bike has been stolen from the station) to the station, 8 minute train ride then another 10 minute walk.
He doesn't seem to leave much earlier than the dcs who go to the nearest school.

I was about 3 miles away. A 15 minute bus ride or a 40 minute walk on a nice day and spend the bus fare on sweets.

LadyGlencoraPalliser · 24/09/2008 10:46

DD1 walks. Approx 2 mins (school is on our street).

Tortington · 24/09/2008 10:48

ds cycles 3 miles

dd walks 1/2 mile to station as her bike was nicked.

i lived 1.5 miles away and walked - sometimes came home for dinner too

mumblechum · 24/09/2008 10:49

I drive ds 5 miles. Comes home on the bus. Driving takes 10 mins, bus about 45 mins.

DSs walk 5 minutes to the local comprehensive. DD1-9, currently in Year 5, wants to go to the girl's grammar school which is about 18 miles away. There is a bus which would pick her up practically right outside our house though.

snorkle · 24/09/2008 11:08

dcs: Approx 10 miles - takes 10-15mins by car (v good roads).

me: Approx 20 miles (not entirely sure) - 30-40mins by walk/train(2 trains in the morning)/walk.

PrimulaVeris · 24/09/2008 11:15

DD - 1.7mile there, walks (35 mins)

Me: lived in village, went to grammar school 20 miles away. Dad drove me 3 miles from village to town bus station, caught bus, 1 hour on bus, then 10 mins walk from bus stop to school.

About a mile. Walk or cycle usually. Sometimes DH gives him a lift if he has too much to carry.

moyasmum · 24/09/2008 11:19

dcs get school bus 7 miles into city (except at the mo because youngest one keeps getting t sick, we WILL get over this, i am driving them there)takes an hour on the bus.20 mins by car
me Always walked 1 1/2 miles lived in the suberbs

pagwatch · 24/09/2008 11:23

DS1 walks less than five minutes to his.
DS2 is at a special secondary and gets home to school transport - about 25 mins

peanutbutterkid · 24/09/2008 11:30

1.5 miles, apparently bicycles at school get routinely vandalised. I expect DS will walk or bus in bad weather.

My HS was 12 miles & I took bus (drove when I was older). Not allowed to cycle though I wanted to.

Idobelieveinfairies · 24/09/2008 11:34

ABout an hour walk, we are not in catchment. They get the school bus that is 2 seconds away from front door.

I lived a big long and windy hill a way from my secondary (same one as DC go to now)..i walked or rode my bike.

PussinWellies · 24/09/2008 12:11

Him: 17 miles, goes in DH's car, returns by taxi.
Me: 7 miles, bus or bike.

lazymumofteenagesons · 24/09/2008 16:13

DS1: about 7 miles. In london, so uses tube. 20mins on tube, 10 min walk either side.

DS2: 30 miles. Used to catch school bus 5 min drive from home and about 1 hour on bus. Now weekly boards. Either I collect on Friday or takes the train + tube.

Me: 5 miles or so. In london, so used tube/bus, took about 30-40 mins.

cory · 24/09/2008 16:38

25 minutes walk, but dd is picked up by disabled taxi, as it would be a choice between walking to school or actually doing the school day.

compo · 24/09/2008 16:50

me: 1 mile drive to bus stop (we had to drive as it was on the way to Mum's work and we had to wait in a layby on a very busy road for the bus so couldn't walk), 40 minute bus ride straight to school

dcs: will probably be 20 minute ride to whichever secondary school they go to (they are all in the same area , same distance from our house)
